As a breeder it is a no brainer for me. I am always going to do what is best for the dog. I am happy to wait for the right home and I don't have to settle which is what selling a puppy to a home where it spends a high percentage of time at kennels. Mind you I have a long list of no sells, such as an outside dog, single dog when they work full time or kennelled.

Get in contact with your terrier people at the shows esp West Highland as they will usually buy in bulk and sell smaller quantities at a reasonable price

10 years ago I had a terrible run of HD affected dogs. I kept some and rehomed some. Other than avoid really terribly strenuous exercise such as agility I let them live normal lives and for the most part they were fine until their teens with little need for meds. The ones I rehomed were free and I would have paid for any operations they needed over the course of their lives which fortunately was never necessary but the owners were to pay for any meds. In my case while they had huge scores they never really showed any signs of being affected and lived relatively normal lives

18mths is about the age they become fully mature and start challenging for top dog position. If they are serious fights I would advise you to get some one on one help before it gets more serious. Fortunately I have found males for the most part to be quite forgiving. They can be fighting one minute and sitting on the mat together 5 minutes later.

How old are they and are they desexed?

My last litter got kennel cough which I have never had before. One was due to fly to his new home the next day and I had to ring them and cancel. I kept them a week after all coughing had stopped which took about 2 weeks. Didn't seem to overly affect the puppies, just a bit off colour but I did end up with 2 heart murmurs that were not there at the 8 week check

In my case Mac is already on thyroid meds and his levels have been steady for a number of years. I have run every test under the moon except anything requiring a anaesthetic as although he is only 13yrs he is a very frail dog and the risk just isn't worth it. He has been a sick dog with immune system issues for many years now and I am just pleased that finally something is helping him. Long may it last. Your links do make fascinating reading

I have owned both sexes but in shelties I would have a male any day and in aussies I prefer the bitchs. They are completely different in both breeds

I added water and put it over his meal twice a day as my theory was that it provides a coating to the lining and it would have to be liquid to do that. Google did tell me to be careful to give meds prior to Slippery Elm as it could prevent absorption

Visitors Here. Dog Not Eating Much N Growling
cowanbree replied to angelnkids's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think she needs to go to the vet now. While it could simply be stress it could also mean she is unwell. Stress wouldn't normally cause a fit and healthy dog to not eat -
I wanted to do an update on this post. Thought I would try the slippery Elm first and preserved with it for a fortnight without any real change and then gradually he started improving. For the last mth he has had normal stools for the first time in nearly 3 years. He is a lot happier and no longer walks round all hunched up so I am delighted. Long may it last, touch wood

I find the issue is it it creeps up on you. If I was asked am I prepared to spend $10,000 on a dog my answer may be no but when it is just $700 here and there it is difficult to say enough even when the sum total spent is huge. I never want to have to say no more based on financial reasons but the truth is sometimes that is reality and we all have to live within our means. I try to focus more on the quality of life the dog is having and also the end result. I personally would struggle to spend thousands to extend the life of a dog 6-12mths

I would have to agree with Nekhbets method, it really does work for serious nippers. I have an aussie puppy that made me bleed on a daily baisis and this is the only thing that worked for her.

We have successfully rehomed a number of quite senior shelties and I think the main reason is we target a different audience to a normal sheltie home. We are all breeders and most of us know long term sheltie people who mainly due to age have decided against another sheltie. We offer them an older sheltie that isn't too busy for them and has a guaranteed home to return to in the event they can no longer keep them which is most older peoples main reason for not getting another pet. Works really well for both parties. Not sure if that would work for a Dalmatian

Would You Feed Treats A Random Dog At The Dog Park?
cowanbree replied to ❤LovesPoodles❤'s topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a sheltie who has throat issues that mean he can only have liquid food. Whenever we go out he wears a plastic muzzle with please don't feed on it and yet last weekend at a dog event somebody tried to squash food through his muzzle as it wasn't fair he has to miss out. Seriously? I would have thought anyone with half a brain would have read the don't feed written on his muzzle and thought hmm not a good idea. -
Bridgewater (us) Woman Faces Animal Cruelty Charges

As long as they are not living in the crates fulltime I don't have an issue. I have a similar set up for overnight for my dogs and during the day they are outside in runs when I am not home to supervise them. They look like happy healthy dogs to me. -
I have just read an article about the merits of Coconut oil in animals with skin conditions and I think I might try that next time they have a flare up. The people who have used it rave about its effectiveness. I have previously tried EPO and Fish oils without a great deal of success

Hydrogen Peroxide For Vomitting

It must come with the name as my Nova also eats foreign objects at an alarming rate. Last time I tried the Washing crystals which have always worked with previous dogs but I had 4 generous attempts with Nova to no effect. It didn't seem to do her any harm, not even an upset tummy. My vet has given me a pill which you put in her eye for next time. Not sure what it is but it does work. he will only give me one at a time though -
Unless it is constant a dog is allowed to bark at 8-9pm. Where I live it can bark for 15 minutes in every hour until 11pm and not be deemed a nuisance

I would contact some of the breeders on DOL and ask them is they have any homes who may be interested in them. The 8yr old will be easy to home and to be honest I wouldn't rush into pts the 14yr old as long as he was in good health. I know as sheltie rescue we have homed a number in the 10plus years and they aren't that hard. Lots of people love oldies and they do adjust. If however he had any health issues at all I would pts

Before I used this service I went and toured it and know exactly the process. They do all the pets on a certain day and in this case they are done in bulk lots but the tray is divided into separate compartments so the remains are definitely those of your pet. You do have the option of bringing your pet on the day and they have a viewing area
-
I know over here the cremator is used for other things as well as pets and pets are only done on certain days. Normal turn around would be 10 days but they do have to be sent away which adds to the time

Could be he wasn't cleaned properly at birth, I have had that before esp with a new mother but I would take him to the vet

Mac can't have any kibble or raw, tried so many and they all set him off. A friend of mine suggested I try him on a simple dog roll from the supermarket. Not something I have ever fed before or want to again but he is the best he has been for years on it so I have to get over myself and accept that for Mac it is the right food. I am going to try the Slippery Elm Powder, very slowly as he just can't tolerate any changes to this diet.
