Select agency on Frome Rd in the city did pet friendly rentals. Check if they are still there. My nephew got his rental through them. Big dog. There are a few real estate agents in Adelaide that do them.

Absolutely cruel. You did not put slippers on his feet on that cold tiled floor. Thanks for making me laugh today.

You mean like...what happens when people get fed up with the dog in Australia? *goes off to look at the 'due now threads' in rescue subforum* I know what you mean, its sickening & disgraceful but If its bad enough here, which it is with all our welfare/cruelty laws & wonderful rescue people how would it be in China where they don't have any of this & dog is acceptable on the menu. It was a cultural view, not racist, my sons wife is chinese, only been here for 2 years, & I love her to bits, but they do have a different view of animals overall. At least dogs going to homes here that are traceable may end up back with the breeder if things go wrong. No chance if they are there.

Breeder Wanting Puppy Back For Future Litters
Christina replied to westozmike's topic in General Dog Discussion
Good luck in finding a nice quality puppy. One that you own & that will be a desexed pet. I find it strange that you enquired for a pet & were offered this & would be very wary. Why would the breeder want to do this ? If the bitch was such top quality that they wanted it bred from they would either keep it themselves, or if unable to, place the bitch on lease or co ownership with another breeder. I would think. Not put it in a pet home with no breeding experience. It would be awful & stressful all round for you & your family. Nice photo of your new baby on here when you get her/him please. -
Done 1 of mine similar to that. Slight variation on leg/hip. Used a number 30 on the body. Easy to look after. Bit wind blown as he has been tearing around the garden like a lunatic with the others. Why do people think toys are couch potatoes ?

You are doing a great job with them both. Those poodle feet & face look very good. Not keen on toe blades. As you only use one corner of the blade to do in between the toes it makes no difference really but depends what you are used to. Videos & books are ok but a demonstration is better. Everyone has a slightly different way of doing it. There is no one right way, its what you find best. Sometimes someone has a different way of handling for an awkward bit, for example, & you think I will try that. It may be something like looking at the shape of your dog & visualising the shape you would like it to be. Before you start. Photos are good, as Flyingduster mentioned in the poodle thread. I have just done 1 of mine & scissored as my 5 blade that I sort of hedge shape with is blunt. He looks so nice but I know if I take a photo I will find heaps of bits I am not happy with.

Don't buy the cane basket beds, not safe they can chew them. I like the big plastic kidney shaped ones. Shopping around I found the same sized beds at $15 & at $75. The dog doesn't care what brand it is. In the heatwave 2 years ago I found some king & queen sized mink blankets on clearance $30 each at K Mart. Grabbed 4 & used them as couch covers for a while until fed up of them. Cut them up for the dogs. Great, don't fray so no sewing & dry quick too. Cheaper than fabric.

Any Way Of Keeping Neighbour's Cat Out Of My Yard?
Christina replied to chichihuahua's topic in General Dog Discussion
It is not a stray if it belongs to your neighbour. Its theft. Setting a mouse or rat trap is cruel, will be painful & if they don't take the cat to the vet, if caught, it will suffer badly. If there are no laws as they don't have them in all states you will just have to figure out a way to keep the cat out by scaring it, not hurting it or make your dog not react. This is most annoying & not fair on you, your dog or the cat. Owners fault. Maybe try a lawyers letter. Not expensive & maybe it may intimidate them. Doubt there is much you can do via them. They are obviously idiots. -
No problem with the dyeing poodles. Just with the dying poodles, on the plate 40 grooming salons is not a lot. We forget the huge population in China. Small pet ownership has become popular. Having looked at some of their grooming on the net it is amazing & so talented. Its more a question of how its done. As an enjoyable experience for the dogs or as an ordeal ? Putting a water rinse on the dogs is a minor matter. I would not send a dog to China the problem being what happens if they get fed up of the dog. Or it could be does the dog get fed up ? Literally.

Breeders, How Would You Respond To An Email Like This?
Christina replied to rastus_froggy's topic in General Dog Discussion
There is no exact right way to enquire or sell. Here is what happened to me with 1 person, its unbelievable. Lady phoned enquiring about a puppy, which I did have. Told me she had an accident at work & injured her back badly. Could not care for her small dog properly & had given it to a family a few doors down, who she & the dog knew, children adored it & they looked after it very well. A few months after treatment etc she felt she could care for a dog, was off work, financially well off & receiving work cover but did not want to ask for the dog back. They loved it, it loved them. After some sympathising & questions, I know all about bad backs, I advised she waited longer as she sounded not well enough & refused her the puppy. A long chat, she sounded a good owner, very caring & responsible & asked lots of questions about poodles, could groom etc. Fast forward 8 months. She phoned about my next litter in tears. She had got a freebie from a well know puppy farmer, who died last year. Adult dog which she took as she felt sorry for it. Spent over $3,000 on vet fees, home visit for a behaviourist etc & the dog had to be PTS after all this. She had learned a lesson for sure & was just so sorry for the dog. Back a lot better now. So she visits. Very nice person, asked all the right things & sounded so caring. Paid in full. Puppy not ready for 2 more weeks. 10 days later I get a phone call from her friend. The lady has severe manic depression, while very nice she did silly things & was having treatment again. Could she, the friend, have the puppy. I said NO, I will refund her money, but she had to phone me herself. She did & told me to keep the money. She did & bought things all the time & had plenty of money. so sorry blah blah. Bloody nutcase & I could not tell at all. Of course I gave her all her money back but did take a little petrol money she offered as I had to drive 150 k's as I did not want her at my home again. I think she just made everything up. How can you tell anything. One goes on the right signs but they can be wrong too. -
Well it wont kill them but Cornflour can cause constipation, which you would notice in mum, bit harder with 3 week pups until you see them straining. The concentration of flour is more for their little bodies too. Sugar not needed. Vanilla harmless so persephones suggestion of egg nog sounds a good idea. Sounds like the little piggy is ready for some food :D

Advert In Supermarket For Registered Pups
Christina replied to Sagittarian's topic in General Dog Discussion
This is great. See it quite a bit around the semi rural areas I sometimes shop in. Homes are more likely to be found locally & can be checked easier. People know they are there & may be pleasantly suprised to see they are available. Not everyone knows where to find a registered breeder, buys dog mags & knows where to look on the net. Some don't even know there are kennel clubs in every state. -
Breeders. Reg & Non Reg ? Have I Got This Right ?
Christina posted a topic in General Dog Discussion
After wading through rights & wrongs, new laws in & proposed laws, seminar & welfare group stuff that is causing controversy it is all getting confusing so in a nutshell am I understanding this right ? As follows Registered breeders have a CC with rules & other people want to make rules too. Registered breeders must health test, where a specific test is possible, & are penalised for breaking the rules. Registered breeders may only let a bitch have the specified number of litters. Registered breeders must or will be required soon to pass an exam for registration, in all states. Registered breeders will not be allowed to inbreed at any level. Registered breeders must only breed their breed to the same breed. That's just for starters. Much more I know. If you are not registered there is no governing body & no rules. Non registered are not required to health test & if there is a problem & they say they didn't know, that is ok. Non registered breeders may breed a bitch when they feel like it as often as they like. Non registered breeders have no registration, therefore no exam. Non registered breeders can inbreed as they may not know exactly who both parents are or who is related to who, as no pedigree is kept. Non registered breeders can breed any 2 dogs of any breed, call it a breed name they have made up & if its a bit wrong it doesn't matter. Just add on to this that if they register as a business & have council approval its a puppy farm & is perfectly legal. Have I got all this lot right ? If the answer is yes Why do we bother registering apart from to attend dog shows ? Feeling very cynical & disillusioned lately with all that is occurring. Guessing I am not alone here. -
I let the buyer choose their puppy but I do suggest & explain why I think a particular one would suit them & their circumstances, if applicable. If they prefer another that is fine. However if I knew for sure that the pup they had chosen would be completely wrong I would say no, sorry but you will not be happy with that one. They also really can't tell the difference when they are all blacks, which mine are mostly.

Hi Zug Zug, I can show you how to groom & clip if you are not too far away. Good to look after your dogs. Have sent you a pm.

'building Better Dogs' Seminar 11 Feb 2010
Christina replied to mlc's topic in General Dog Discussion
Its a very long process with lots of dogs (or whatever animal), checking all pups until breeding age, keeping those with qualities desired & getting rid of the rest. Then do it again & again etc until desired trait breeds true. Trouble is genes are funny things & do not always pass on in the desired way. To obtain desired result can take a lifetime unless one uses 1,000's of dogs. Apart from the fact that using 2 breeds doubles/increases the chance of all genetic conditions/faults/defects as 1 breed may carry something the other does not, & vica versa , so you are introducing it into each dog & not all are testable, epilepsy for example, you just have to wait & see if it occurs, then breed each dog with a different mate & hope it doesn't skip a generation, or scrap both. Its a hit & miss minefield really & certainly not in the interests of the welfare of dog. What happens to the mistakes ? New breeds have been created & some breeds miniatured & made toy but we really have enough now. There is a dog for everyone already, they just have to choose carefully. -
Dogs SA can give you a list of breeders, but that is all they can do. To register in SA you fill in a form, pay your fee & its done. There are no checks, no recommendations so approved just means they are registered. I think its fine to ask to see the dogs at the kennels 1st. If refused I would really wonder why. Its OK to have more than 1 breed, I breed/show cats too. It's the care, conditions they are kept in, attention etc that are important. Due to the breeds you have chosen interstate may have to be the way to go unless you are lucky in timing or willing to wait As these are high cost breeds that are not easy to breed you may have to have a short holiday & visit if you cannot get what you want here.

That is the shortest, most common sense post I only hope that the powers to be see the subject the same way & the do gooders, who sometimes don't even have a dog, do too. We are supposed to be a democratic country, its becoming more like communist Australia with every stupid new rule.
-
agreed The question really was will it have a long or short coat. The lectures will come. Hmm responsible choice Taken as a puppy this choice will probably be as ok as a rescue, its not like the neighbour is trying to make a quick $ from a litter,as I read it.
-
Almost same with my sister. Her rescue staffy cross does the same & is driving her crazy. Got a as a pup, now 8 months. The dog gets walked daily, off leash run for miles. People home a lot & many visitors. So what is 100% perfect for every dog. ETA mine never behave like that.
-
Whoops you sure have picked the wrong forum to ask on My answer is that given the mix of dogs, which may only be guesswork anyway & inaccurate. No difference even if its right. There is no way of knowing what you will get. Unlikely to be a long coat as in a maltese or briard for example. You will get a medium to large size dog, that may look like anything. Be of unknown temperament, with no health history other than mum & dad seem ok. If you are saving a life & the pup is free, good luck. If they ask for money say No. This just encourages them to do it again. Its a pot luck choice.

Thanks Christina, I bought 2 sets of those when we brought midnight home. My only concern with using them is how to configure them to pen size? How will they enter in and out of them? As in will I basically make a cube without a front panel or is there some other way to make a door? Would this still be feasible with the compost bin panels? p.s I forgot to add in my previous post that osca is 5 and fully grown and midnight is 13 months so I have been told she is fully grown? Yes your dogs are fully grown now. Easy for door. Just leave the ties off 1 panel on 1 side & leave open, tie with a ribbon/cord etc when you want to shut the door. Use 2 or 3 ties on each join, top/bottom/middle. I join 6 or 8 of them for puppy or whelping pen & find octagonal shape gives it better balance but just using 4 a square balances fine. If they jump & shove it about put 1 end against a wall/sofa etc & that solves that. If you leave it open & they like it they just go in on their own.

Exactly, a perfect example. Similar situation here. 5 roads, isolated area. I used to walk mine but now people leave their gates open, big dogs, a couple roam the area & it is not safe. Dirt roads & dry scrub, snakes likely too. I do take them for a ride in the car occasionally & a walk in a crowded shopping centre car park, but only if I pop in shop quick & have someone with me. Not safe or advisable to leave tiny dog in car with weather & idiots that are around. Beach occasionally & local 12k away shops too. They have huge space at home to run & each other to chase/play & constant company so I don't feel they are missing out or badly treated because they don't get half an hour on a lead. Or that I am a bad owner. When I lived in the city I had a permit for 5 dogs & used to walk them in turn every day but not practical now. I do socialise puppies by taking them to shops, nursery centres & crowded places a few times as well as to friends & family homes. Its as much as needed or practical when not fully vaccinated. Some proposed rules are ridiculous & do not help the dogs who need help at all.

The Bunnings compost pens are ideal for you. When you don't need them you can just seperate & slide them behind a wardrobe or lounge. They are only $26 for 4 panels & you join the with those plastic garden ties. Handy & easy

I don't crate for house training, not in agreement but that is just me. However I do crate at short times for safety, injury, dog on heat, tiny puppies, when they have a bone & some go in pens on their own over night as they like their own space. I would not put any animal in a pen/crate so small it can only sleep & stretch its body length. The Bunnings compost panels make a metre square pen & can be joined for bigger pens & the large metal dog crates are 4ft x 2 ft. www.dealsdirect.com.au have them for around $60. That is the smallest I would confine in & mine are toys. Remember your pups will grow too.
