No but I have a few metres in the huge cat run (pic in cat thread a few pages back). I used some to break up the effect of the pavers, trial before doing all my runs. Not going to put any more down. Its awful to clean. Hairs stick to it, bits stick on it & hosing does not get them off. Ended up using my high velocity dog dryer & blowing them off. Cats love it but they toilet in litter trays. Dogs don't. Cant imagine it with pee on. how would you get the smell out ?

yes, that is very, very cute.

Nail trimming is very simple. You just do regularly & take off a little bit each time so you don't cut to the blood supply. Ask your vet nurse, a groomer or another dog person who can do them to show you how. Nothing to it. No need for a full grooming job with pugs, its just a wash & dry which you can do.

What Is Your Dogs Favourite Foods?
Christina replied to Pepi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Really had to think about this. Mine are not fussy eaters at all. The answer is Whatever is on my plate. -
No. Every time someone saves the gorgeous puppy they are promoting this & allowing it to continue http://www.alv.org.au/issues/puppyfactories.php Please read & go to the home page for more specific info & more raids. Think about this carefully & realise the puppy you save will be replaced. They sold it & made a profit from you didn't they ? So why should they stop ? Do not look in pet shops any more.

If there are no quarantine requirements at the other end I think I may chance it for the 1st 2 weeks of a pregnancy. Too scared of the stress causing her to abort any later. Bad scenario if she is losing pups while locked in a crate. Have you got a good vet with experience in dogs travelling that you can ask for advice ? I can see that you want to take an Australian line over there & have not got reliable contacts yet but its not worth risking your bitch for. Have heard of dogs giving birth in quarantine. I would be out of my mind with worry. The other option is to wait & ship over frozen semen from here.

I have never heard of it, so I googled it. Lots of info, have a look. Only checked for people but it said prognosis & outcome are good if diagnosed early & treated with antibiotics. Hopefully this is the case for your dog.

You & the dog need to hide until you have new plates for him & dare come back. Book in a caravan somewhere. My sister had something similar. Argued with husband & had the keys to our parents house, who were on holiday, so stormed off there, with german shepherd in tow. Frantic on the phone the next morning. The dog had completely demolished the very expensive leather chesterfield sofa. No help from me I just They do grow out of it, the dogs I mean, not the men with the car thing.

Great & fair result. This forum can be so good sometimes. A hard way to learn for your friend but better luck next time around hopefully.

I would be too & would change vets. Accidents can happen & animals can be unpredictable but unless your dog grew fingers in the night the cage was not fastened properly or the fasteners are inadequate, it should not be possible for escape. Nothing bad happened but it could have done. There is no way of knowing if this is a one off occurrence because they are not going to tell you are they ? Lucky your dog was not in there with serious injuries & this happened. Scary but the main thing is that all is well now. Sometimes it is worth the hassle of a longer drive to find somewhere you are happy with.

Ask your vet about the effectiveness & safety of the product. Some dogs just won't chew hard enough no matter what you give them & a yearly or 2 yearly dental clean at the vets is the only solution. Bit of an expensive but much better for you dog long term. Have to do this with 1 of mine, ok when young but not now older. Great teeth but just gets build up more than usual. I found brushing pretty useless.

Not sounding good without any proof. How did your friend pay the deposit ? Bank transfer etc is traceable & therefore proof. No testicles by 6 months means get to the vet & find & remove them, not advisable to leave for a year. Maybe they could phone the legal services commission for free legal advice. There is one listed in the phone book for every state. Its a starting place. Ripped off for sure & very dishonest.

I think too much assistance, unless needed does not help the bonding process, which is so important. I resented the bloody not needed assistance with my 1st experience of childbirth & have never forgotten it. Unless there is a problem I feel it is best to let the bitch get on with it. I remove sacs & cut cords if the bitch does not do it fairly quickly but I do give her a minute. I also move the other babies to one side as they can get squashed as the next one comes along. I find it distresses them to remove the pup elsewhere outside the box. If mum is cleaning & licking the pups I leave her to it. After she has had an hour to settle after the last one & they are all feeding well then I change bedding & weigh & check sexes. I try not to mess with or handle them too much. I also let them eat the placentas if they want to, it is what they would do in the wild. If they don't eat them about 10 minutes after the pup comes out then I remove it. Each to their own way I guess. My girls are good & whelp easy.

Fell off a grooming table while left unattended on a noose? Now that I'd believe. Of course that puts all the blame on them and none on the dog. My 1st thought too before I even opened the post. Best option if you are worried about leaving your dog is to get a mobile out & stay with your dog & stop the session if you do not like the way it is handled. A horrid experience & very inadequate compensation, not that any amount would ease the pain or ever make your trust return.

Don't understand why he has reported this to RSPCA. His own stupid fault. He has done the wrong thing & his dogs suffered from his careless actions. Some nerve.

Requirements For Dogs On Utes
Christina replied to Miss BeRidgierent's topic in General Dog Discussion
Don't know the rules but there should be some. I had the horrifying experience of driving down the very busy Main North Rd here in SA last Thursday. The scruffy white ute next to me in all the traffic had 2 Kelpies loose in the back. One of them was going ballistic. Barking & running from side to side like a lunatic, almost falling over the side. Heavy traffic. So lunatic driving, yes I have your number plate, be thankful that the police station near there was shut when I pulled in to complain. If there aren't any laws there should be -
Pup Returning After 1st Night! Unbelievable.
Christina replied to moosmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Good job they didn't have a human baby Can't take them back. Unreal but best thing really given the silly circumstances. I am sure you will find your puppy a good home soon. -
The simple way to stop knots & matts is not to let them get there in the 1st place. Twice a week brushing is not enough. If you do it every day or every alternate day the problem is solved. A slicker brush 1st then over to check any missed bits with a metal comb. If the dog is never knotty this is very quick, 5 mins. The dog gets used to it & becomes obliging, which speeds it up. Using your own hairdryer is good. Moved quickly & constantly over the coat without burning your dog they love it & find it pleasant & relaxing. Put a lead on him & anchor to something or other until he gets used to it & stands still for you. There is no need to use anything but your fingers to pluck ear hair out of a bigger dog with bigger ear holes. Rub some powder in & then get hold of small pieces, not clumps, between 1st finger & thumb & tweak out real quick, like when you pluck your eyebrows. Make 5 or 10 mins a day for your dogs grooming routine, like you do for taking off your make up, brushing your teeth & your own hair before bed. Its not long once you get into the habit & well worth it for your dog.

They are shooting part of this near me, middle of nowhere really. At a tiny crabbing beach 15 mins away. My neighbour & parents are extras in it. She is so excited.

Don't know the legalities of this but honestly Where is the concern for the dog in all of this ? In this situation I don't know what anyone else would do but I would say send the dog back to me & I will refund your money. Behaving this way & in just a week the dog is obviously not happy if he has not shown any previous signs of aggression. If he has he should not have been sent there. Either way its not working out. Maybe your friend could contact a lawyer, some give free advice initially, if nothing can be resolved with the breeder.

For those who haven't looked at the link to the article Click on it & read the comments by Lionheart underneath. Very good Its about the only thing that made me laugh. Bloody lunacy the whole saga.

One of the biggest problems in having rules, laws, guidelines etc is that peoples opinions vary so much on what is actually acceptable & right. If the breeders/owners on this forum can't agree, & going by some posts they cannot. eg from past few posts A breeder cannot do all they should do with multiple litters over a few months. Well depends on your breed. Mine may have only 1 to 3 puppies, so multiple litters, especially with singletons is better for the pups. Not quite the same as multiple litters of 8 & 10 puppies. Dogs still need an hour or 2 walking outside despite having large properties to run around. Depends on breed again. Mine get round the block. They would pass out on a 2 hour hike, especially in the heat, after tearing around after each other here all day. People can't cope with more than 4 dogs. Absolutely ridiculous, of course some can very well & Others are hopeless with just one. Selling on limited register restricts the breed. No it doesn't. It means that people will just breed without the breeders consent & no papers. Re the puppy farms anyone with half a brain & any compassion can see what is wrong with the places & it should be stopped. If the dogs are living in rough conditions, fed crap & the minimum, caged, dirty, over bred & without vet treatment when needed etc We have laws & rules in place already that cover animal cruelty & neglect. Why do we need more laws, more rules, more regulations ? The ones we have are obviously not being enforced so what is the point of more ? If the councils stopped allowing these mass farms, the RSPCA removed & prosecuted & all but breeding animals owned by registered breeders were desexed it would help. But having a whole new set of another lot of laws will just penalise ethical breeders & the crap will just continue on. The laws will not be well thought out, flexible enough for various circumstances & not enforceable. The puppy farms will continue. Other ethical breeders will give up. It will all get too complex, difficult & too much bother with all this stupidity.

The whole bloody council need a brain transplant. This is unbelievable.

7.30 Report Abc To Do Expose On Dd Puppy Farms
Christina replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Noice wun Ann. I'm sure BanksiaPark are happy to have you on board. I would be if it wasn't all so sad. Glad they published that one, it shows the mentality & will not go far in influencing people to get a puppy from there. What an attitude though. -
7.30 Report Abc To Do Expose On Dd Puppy Farms
Christina replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
One thing that is never mentioned at all is When puppies are in pet shops what happens to those who do not get sold. The pet shops will say All puppies do get sold. The large chains also move them from shop to shop if they don't sell. Not all puppies do get sold. I have heard the worst dispose of them by shooting on remote properties. Others dump them at RSPCA. No idea what others do but it won't be in the best interests of the pups in most cases. They are a business. Businesses need to dispose of stock. This is something that is always ignored. It is another valid point against selling pups in pet shops.
