  1. Sun ? You are in Vic australia ? Its 13 degrees & windy here, freezing. My dogs plans are to lay about the lounge as near to the fire as they can get. Go out to toilet when I make them My plans are to brush them all & bath & clip 2 of them today. Toy poodles are so tough
  2. Not ideal but years ago many pups went at 6 weeks & survived fine. Big dog, big litter, pup may do better in a sensible home with individual attention & care & good food. Nothing you can do. Many country dogs do fare worse.
  3. Freaking. I have today fed mine on the Iams Original Proactive health. Is this one ok ? Not using it again it can go in the bin no matter what.
  4. Normal behaviour. Try & rig something up so mum can get away from pups if she wants to but they cant get to her. Like low gate/board across doorway she can get over but pups can't.
  5. Sad & scary. Confusing as well. Do the shippers load the dogs on the plane ? or airline staff ? Why were they allowed on if the temp was already too high ? If the cargo hold is kept at a particular safe temp why wasn't it so on this day ? Hard to say who was to blame from this info. Some countries do allow dogs to travel with the passengers as long as they are crated & small enough. Something I would prefer given the choice. Not here though.
  6. If the dew claws are removed when the puppy is between 3 & 5 days old there is no need for any stitches at all. For an older dog it is different & requires anaesthetic as well. If you post which area you want, or where it is convenient for you to get to, it is easier to recommend a vet. ETA If done properly when they are babies it is rare for them to re grow.
  7. How distressing for you. There is little you can or should do given the lack of information & access to vet treatment & info. You have no idea what the operation was for, why it was done, the aftercare of the dog or any problems after the surgery. The condition of the body when taken for the autopsy is also a question of some concern. One would think that the person would be upfront & honest regarding all of the above so of course you smell a rat. Anyone would. Do nothing & see what their next move is.
  8. Noahs Crossing, Hayman Rd, Lewiston. Reasonable fees, popular breeders vet. Bit of a drive for you but a good vet is worth their weight in gold. Charges & prices are second to good service & confidence but some do seem excessive on basics like vaccs etc.
  9. I use the Tranquil Paste for my stud boy when he gets upset when the girls are on heat & its not a time to mate them. Small dose for my toy poodle always works very well calming him but not doping him. No side effects. Used it for years guess it works on some & not others. Interesting re the Tryptophan. Suffering psoriasis for many years I read an article that a trytophan free diet stops it. Researched & consulted my doctor. Only found 6 foods with no tryptophan at all so only ate them for 10 days. Doctor said its dangerous any longer as the body takes lacking trytophan out of the muscles. As an experiment I can say my severe psoriasis cleared but at the end I coudn't stop crying for 3 days. Must affect the brain weirdly as I hardly ever cry.
  10. Its a step in the right direction but won't stop puppy farms. I think puppies should only be sold from the breeders home. That would just about cover most aspects, like if they were kept badly or sick people would know, recognise this & walk away. They also have the choice to report to RSPCA etc if there was anything amiss, they already have more than enough power to act for neglect & abuse. Not keen on the idea of licensing breeders, registered ones would have more rules & non reg would just ignore it & breed. Who would set the criteria ? Who would be allowed to apply for it ? What kind of dogs would they be allowed to breed ? Not much faith in the powers/authorities for this decision. May just make more cross breeder/commercial breeders more creditable to the general public. ETA People have to have a license to drive on the road, are they all responsible drivers ?
  11. Thats sad that you have to justify yourself for 2 litters. Must have been heaps of hard work. :D at the poop scooping.
  12. There is nothing more you can say. She is going to do this. Hopefully after one time she may be put off. My friend who breeds & shows cat bought a pet shop puppy cross who would know better, didn't stop her. After my short & very blunt say she thought I may fall out with her. She is still the same friend I love so why would I. Stupid yes but not enough to fall out over.
  13. Yes & not just in this incident. Madness hit when common sense became extinct. Just another power mad idiot.
  14. My girls come in season together, or close. I try to breed 2 together. Little girls, little litters. I find it better if a problem did crop up I have another mum there. A singleton puppy which has happened has playmates. Doubt I would do it with a breed that had big litters though. Socialising, toilet & lead training 15 or 20 pups would be all too hard for me.
  15. Be worried he develops a taste for chocolate. Had big dogs steal it in the past & they were always fine. Nothing happened. Can be toxic for some but not always deadly. If he is ok now he should be fine. Scary though.
  16. Depend what you want doing. Some just wash & thats it so if you want drying, brushing out, clipping, nails etc you have to ask if they do it first. I always advise puppy buyers to get a mobile & stay with the dog & watch. To stop the session if they don't like the handling or look like they are making a mess & don't know what they are doing.
  17. Girls here come on heat together so hump each other. One girl humps cats on heat, as I breed them too. Cats don't care. Other than that scenario I have never had a humper. Guess if I did I would try distraction as it can be just a habit.
  18. Great not a brand I use but my cats won 2 bags of it at a cat show last Sunday. Panic just read bag as they had a small bit mixed in with their usual. Not that kind but it has put me right off using the bigger bag.
  19. I emailed Animal Liberation re their work about the puppy farms. Said I was a registered breeder but had not been a member in this country, only overseas over 30 years ago. Got a nice reply saying they were not against registered breeders in general. Factual & correct is a must for any documentary but people respond more with emotion than reason. Which is why they still buy from pet shops, it was so cute, or crappy puppy places, I felt I was saving it. People still see better than they think. Sad.
  20. No idea, not a thing I would ever consider using but what I am curious about is Why do you still need to use it to walk your dog after 4 years ? Obviously as a training tool its not working. Time to find a different trainer I think.
  21. Just got an email re this product. Sounds good. Grain free, no fillers or by products, preservatives etc. Does anyone use this ?
  22. Bigger the better. If you have to crate a dog why squash it in a small space when it can have a bigger one, the biggest crate is not that big. Can't see what issues it could cause by having extra room. I have my toy poodles in 36 inch crates or larger puppy pens, if I need to crate which is not often or for long.
  23. Teaming up with Animal Lib Vic is an excellent idea. They are very active in this area so hope they are willing. You need photos. I don't think the message & horror of it all gets across by words only. A photo speaks a thousand words. I know about it all & get upset & angry when I read but a photo reduces me to tears. Best of luck with this. Hope it gets much publicity when done.
  24. Don't know where this may go but believe it is likely. As a breeder of siamese cats this very thought came to mind as I was discussing the way the head shape has changed due to current breeding. The old type siamese was so different. I also wondered if it would affect their temperament. Jokingly said there will be no room left in their skulls for their brains if they keep changing. Could be interesting.
  25. In season or not in another week or so you can book her in, as it will be over anyway. Silent or full season is possible if the first season was a short, not full on season. If she is not humping, flagging when you run your hand down her back to her tail or attracting dogs its not likely. When I had short coated dogs I never noticed any coat change at all with any of them. Best thing to do is ask the vets advice if you are still unsure in a week.
