  1. I believe people in Australia like laws & rules & being told what to do. & say & how to think & how to raise children & what to eat & what to wear & watch & read etc etc. Saves thinking for yourself, figuring it out & protesting I guess. Yes the world has gone mad.
  2. perfect response. Just more bloody paperwork & $'s to pay out uselessly. Again.
  3. You are entitled to your opinion but butchered is not what is done to them. It is a quick & simple procedure. Is done by a qualified vet. They are under anaesthetic for a very short time & certainly do not suffer the discomfort that older dogs do when desexed. They don't seem to suffer any discomfort. If people were not dishonest & puppy farms did not flourish maybe it wouldn't be needed. I do not think I am a disgrace & should get out of dogs. I think I would be a disgrace if I let them go without protecting them & this is the only way. The pro's & con's are variable. Entire dogs get all sorts wrong with them too, many to do with them not being desexed also
  4. I have a mother & daughter & 1 unrelated. They usually all cycle at the same time, same duration. All my young dogs related or not have had their 1st heat at about 8 to 10 months. Not helpful really
  5. I desex all before they leave me. For a toy breed the risks are less & if they grow a bit taller what is half an inch or so on a toy poodle pet. Yesterday I had mine desexed, vaccinated & microchipped. Dropped them off at 9am. Collected them at 4pm. When I got them home it was like nothing had been done to them. I kept them warm in the puppy pen & stopped them running around until this morning. They were going crazy to get out & play as soon as I brought them home. I would far rather desex & take the small risks than have them end up somewhere awful & bred to death. This may never happen but once they leave your hands you have no control & may never know. People lie. My breed is the most misused, due to false claims & popularity among puppy farms & stupid public demand. You have to weigh up the risks & do what you think is best. This is my decision. ETA I have had no negative feedback so far of any problems of those that have had this done, in the last 5 years.
  6. One cannot compare dogs to families of people sorting out rank. People can speak & explain what the problem is. Some may be reasonable & see the others point & concede & others may be unreasonable & squabble verbally or go to the extreme of violence. Children deal with this according to basic personality & parental reactions. Adults have choices of moving, not speaking to & various methods. Our pet dogs don't have the same abilities or choices & react differently to people. Owners deal with problems in different ways, what works for some dogs may not work for others. They have inbuilt personality too. Owner must recognise this.
  7. Also had 2 singletons. Not a problem. As Dunwarren posted don't isolate, out in busy area of the house at 3 weeks & careful interaction with other dogs. Take out early for walks & to see the world, carrying puppy of course. Mine both grew to be lovely boys with no issues & didn't do much that was special with them.
  8. Little buggers aren't they. 2 of my girls have squabbled from week 3 but are getting ok now. When mine start & a squeal is heard & its getting rough I clap my hands, which gets their attention, & say ah ah enough. Usually works. Maybe start giving them a little time apart now in turns each.
  9. Keeping cats as snake control is not a good idea They often come off worst & take much longer than a dog to die in agony. Unless one sees them as a disposable item Having toms & some females & letting them breed & interbreed wild is a recipe for deformities, disease & illness. How would one catch wild cats to treat them if full of cat flu, herpes, feline aids & leukemia etc. Sad & unkind.
  10. Sometimes an animal is not meant to leave you. You don't have to do anything wrong & didn't. It's fate. I delivered one of my cats to a lovely new home recently. She didn't do anything out of the ordinary for an adult re home cat I kept thinking about her all the time & one of the other cats kept looking for her. Had a call to go & get her back after 13 days. The lady said the cat didn't like her. Appeared so. She may have settled given more time but her cat friend was very glad to have her back & gave her a big wash all over. I don't mind & would not try with this cat again. One fail & they are here to stay
  11. Dig so all the fencing is placed 1 foot below the ground & put netting all along the inside edge. That way they can only get through the gate so you have make that snake proof as well. I don't know how that's done.
  12. Thanks, I should have that scribbled somewhere, think I know where. Mind needed jogging. Off to look. Found it.
  13. Thank you for that. Its the best laugh I have had today. You would have had to pick me up off the floor if I had that conversation. I would have fell over laughing.
  14. Tried to register for a puppy that has just gone to her new home & the 1st question is Breeders reg number. Thought this was canine association number but it won't accept. I can't remember having another number ? Do we ? Can't phone as they are closed today. Tried an email but may not get a reply until Monday.
  15. Many issues, as posted. Sometimes they can do a wonderful job but so often they get it wrong. Staff do as they are told its the administration & their policies that is the problem. More money should be spent on the animals, the euthanasia rates need to, & can be, lessened. So many good animals never get out of there & end up PTS. So much money, that the public donate, is wasted on interfering with matters that are not the main concern & decisions are ineffectual & incorrect. The public don't know what goes on behind the scenes. They really do need to be answerable to someone & not a law unto themselves. Like any organisation there is good & bad. I would donate your money elsewhere but do check them out. They are getting it wrong a bit too often now & becoming very political. Its supposed to be preventing cruelty & saving lives.
  16. Actually they do, at least they did with me. About 10 years ago, maybe things have changed now, my friend got a new neighbour. When visiting her she told me the lady had a puppy that looked starving. The neighbour was out & she told me to look over the fence. There was a german shepherd pup, about 4 or months that looked like something out of a concentration camp I said give me your phone & reported it. They took my name & phone number & next day I got a call. They had been out & thanked me & said there was cause for concern. The woman said she had only just got it from the farm from her mother & the others pushed it out & got all the food. They gave her a diet sheet, worming advice & went back & checked on the pup twice more. I was suprised. But back to the original topic. The poster must go & see the place first & then take action if need be, whatever anyone's opinion is.
  17. The ethics of it are not illegal. Before you make any complaints about the welfare issue based on assumptions, which may be right or wrong, you need to see for yourself. If you do & it is very bad you need to go in & report it & ask that you are kept informed of the result. Maybe they just think you are assuming as you drive by, which is correct. Hopefully, for the sake of what lives there, it will not be so bad but they are allowed to sell animals.
  18. This is so hard. I have kept 2 as I couldn't decide. Temps are great. Being little fluffies I look at them when they are wet after their bath when they are towel dried. Makes it easier to see exactly what the dog is like, for me anyway. I also consider when breeding if the pup has a little something I don't like, but outweighs the others overall, will the dog I put her to make any difference. Some things it will & others it just won't.
  19. Never had this but if I did Yes of course. Hormones & pregnancy can make the loveliest of people cranky, tearful & have a complete change of their normal personality Every dog is different & I know when I was having my 1st baby I burst into tears if someone even looked at me funny. Totally out of character. Normally I would have said Are you staring at me Its your decision based on your experience with your own dogs. I am sure if there was a problem you wouldn't do it.
  20. I can understand where you are coming from. A phone call explaining it all to you would have been caring & polite regardless of the tooth having to come out. I assume you signed the consent form for the surgery when you dropped her off ? So a phone call would have been just a courtesy. Hope you get a nice litter of puppies & all goes smoothly
  21. Is there any medication for them, saying it is Hay-fever? Yes but that is something you will have to consult your vet about. You can't just give them human meds.
  22. Only had this with a litter of dumped over my fence kittens. I put the boy seperate & used one of those heated foot warmers, for people, for him to snuggle into & keep warm. Think seperation is the only way to stop it.
  23. Even more hilarious (especially for the General Public) to see a judge peed on at the Royal! :D Did it win ? Or was the judge peed off.

    Desexing

Desexing of a male is one of the simplest operations if all goes well. They are only knocked out for a very short time, its real quick. All my pups are done & you wouldn't know it by mid afternoon. They are completely back to normal. Its a bit worse for older dogs & big dogs but I have never had to keep a dog quiet for 10 days or put a collar on, they have never touched the stitches & its only 1 or 2 on a small breed. Even my older dogs are back to normal in 2 days. The only thing I have ever done is stopped them from jumping & not let them go on any dirt. He will be fine.
  25. :D mine too I reckon. The look they give me when I say out for piddles in the cold & pouring rain.
