Depends. How much do you know about the breed & how bad is it really. German shepherds are bred with a sloping back & legs lower than they were, they don't look like the same dog as when I was a child. There could be any reason, maybe he is just nervous & standing funny. Who knows ? It's not right to go up to a perfect stranger & make remarks about their dog generally although sometimes it is done, eg dog with bucket on head being walked & you comment Oh dear what has he been up to. Not quite the same scenario as yours. If you have to say anything get chatting first & be very subtle.

Yes I believe some dogs do have a sixth sense. I also believe some dogs have no sense

A brave & honest post. In another frame of mind you may have thought Oh well a puppy can be a pain & just have got on with it. Timing was wrong. Forgive yourself knowing you are doing the right thing here. Harper will settle with the new people & be happy, They will love him & you will feel less stressed. It will work out well.

Friend Is Determined On Getting A Puppy That Is For Free
Christina replied to haylz27's topic in General Dog Discussion
It may work out fine, or not. No way of predicting really. Many people give dogs away free to good homes. They may not like to give to a rescue or be comfortable, they may want to know who is taking their dog & meet & question them, they may not know about or know a rescue. RSPCA & AWL may not appeal to them because they PTS & you have no say or even know. Its not a thing I could ever do but sometimes it does not always mean the dog is bad or that they don't care. Sometimes it does. Its the chance taken. There is nothing much you can do. -
Let the puppy go. If you are crying & depressed this is not good for either of you. Forget the behaviourist, this is normal puppy behaviour for some. Pups are variable in how they are leaving home, mum & litter but there is nothing abnormal here. Some carry on & some don't. As you are feeling at present I would forget about having a dog. Any dog. If you like cats consider getting a kitten, or even 2. They are much easier, more independant & so much fun. They are so loving but do not fret when they are alone, not noisy as long as they are desexed & they should be & will keep you entertained for hours. May suit you better.

There is no way of knowing or ever finding out. Many would have PTS the dog anyway if it was like this, failed the temp test thing, so the fact that they let it go to start with may mean it gets another chance. Depends entirely on the decision of the person in charge. Sad, poor dog.

If the dogs are desexed it doesn't matter what sexes are kept together. The dogs don't know what sex the other desexed dog is.It is more a matter of the personality of the dogs. Keeping entire males & females together is different & depends on many various factors.

Don't The Rules Apply To You Or Something?
Christina replied to Maxiewolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
Times have changed. Regular thing to take your dog shopping & in the pub with you when I was growing up. Dogs were tied up outside shops sometimes for a few minutes while the owner popped in or just told to sit & wait if the owner didn't want to take them in. We didn't have to worry about anyone stealing or hassling the dogs. I would be too scared to tie my dog up like that one because of the nutters & druggies in the shopping centre. Funniest animal in a shop was the goat that got loose in a huge furniture shop in Adelaide several years ago. It ran riot for 4 hours while they tried to catch it, shop closed of course. Mega damage to everything. No one came forward to claim the goat. Wonder why -
A puppy is not a car. Anyone who thought buying a puppy is the same as buying a car would not be buying from me. It is the breeders choice what & how they do it. Some do seem to have ridiculous or unfair conditions & some don't care about anything & merely want the money. It is up to the buyer to go with the one they are most comfortable with. We may have no choice at all one day. You may only be able to get a puppy from a government controlled breeder, produced to government specifications, produce in government controlled conditions. Like a car really

There are studies & statistics that can make early desexing, later desexing, no desexing & anything look detrimental in some form. There has not been enough early desexing to obtain reliable data over time, 10 years ago or even later it was rarely done. Many statistics that have proven things & been known to be inaccurate in later years. The post question is about selling entire dogs & what happens then. Early desexing is a breeders choice & may be the lesser of two evils.

At her age I would ask for Valium. Administer at home & get a mobile groomer to come to your home & stay with her while she is being done.

There is no way to protect the dog from being unsuitably bred, put out to stud or over bred. There is only a way to ensure that the pups aren't registered, which may protect your name & line but not the welfare of the dog. Once a dog leaves you entire it can be bred regardless of its registration. I know some great show lines that are being bred & all pups sent overseas. The agent does not care about their registration. Sights the pedigree here & is satisfied. I desex my toy breed before they leave me. I would not breed a larger breed that is not as suited to the early desexing. Super sensitive to anything horrid I know I would have nightmares & be racked with guilt if they ended up in a bad breeding situation. Not trusting to strangers by nature either. If I let one go for breeding to someone I trusted my condition would be that if the dog does not turn out suitable it must be desexed before being re homed or returned to me. Not much else you can do really & even that can't be enforced if it came to the crunch.

He is beautiful. He will eat when he has recovered from the shock, strangeness & excitement of it all. I wouldn't be putting him in a crate until bedtime. He has been confined for a long time today. Let him have some freedom & stretch his body.

There does need to be a better reason to buy a dog than having a stalker around. Irony is that if the dog did attack a burgler/prowler or anyone entering your home they could probably sue & the dog may be deemed dangerous. Imagine some ladies little yorkie or chihuahua Cheaper & easier to buy an alarm & a hammer to keep under your pillow.

This is the area where most dogs get matts if they are going to. If they are left to get bad it is too painful to comb them out, its a really sensitive spot. Daily check there is a must. The alternative is to shave a little patch out there. It doesn't really show much on a pet dog & is easier. De tangle/conditioners etc won't stop this. If it is a big matt take your scissors through the knot near the skin & cut a line outward to the end of the hair. That's how you cut into them as posted. Do this in a couple of places being very careful to keep the scissor point pointing away from the skin & then use the slicker brush & it should come out. No easy answer to this.

Advice Needed From Those With Puppy Bars
Christina replied to RubyStar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not sure exactly what set up you are having but with small dogs 1 thing to be sure of is that there are no gaps. My station wagon has a cargo barrier. One of my toy poodles was in the boot behind the barrier & then next thing she was hopping into the front seat next to me. She had squeezed through the small gap in the corner, goodness knows how she managed it. The others never did it. The barrier is now removed & I put a dog crate in there for her or if I need it for the others -
Sounds like talking to your auntie or mum is like banging your head on a brick wall. You can't change what they do so Start looking for your own place. Leave the dog in your room when you go out & put a lock on the door. Supervise your dog at all times around the house & undo any damage as its done. Don't poop scoop for your auntie or do anything else for her. I don't know how you can live there but the reality is that it is your parents home.

That's just an idiot who probably likes dogs but hasn't a clue. A friend or someone dragging him off to dog training would fix it & he would probably keep the dog. Obviously not too bright placing the ad. Worse ads are the ones that say No papers but is a great stud dog, good for breeding, lives outside. Then you see the photo of the poor little fluffy dog, all matted & filthy

How absolutely gorgeous, look at that face

How is it possible to tell if an animal is deficient in copper or anything else without a blood test ? Isn't it dangerous to supplement many things without knowing there is a lack of them to start with ? I would think there would have to be a really serious deficiency for it to affect hair colour. Colour is a genetic thing not dietary. Sunlight & age have an effect on it. I seriously doubt that there is any substance that can be applied or ingested that can alter it.

I just phone Virgin & Australian Air Express & ask for a price. Whichever gives the best, & best & easiest travel time for the animal, usually Virgin, I accept, book it & then take the animal to the airport myself. Easy.

If you have photoshop, photostudio or similar on your computer open the photo in there. Go to Edit at the top & click. It should open & give you a choice of things. Go to image size & click. A box should appear showing you the size of your photo. Change it to about 400 pixels & that will upload to your post about right. If you use photobucket hosting or similar there should be something on there that will alter the size, can't recall what without going to look.

Goodness knows what toy poodles would have been fed & they weren't ever in the wild. All sorts of bad little snacky things off owners plates I guess. Like people they probably adjust to modern diet, I doubt we would like or thrive on what they ate 200 years ago in our country of origin. The diet in England was tragic for rich & poor Gout & clogged arteries or malnutrition & vitamin deficiency was likely depending on your social status. Modern diet with a good dose of common sense sounds ideal. We do worry & fuss so much about food & everything else being bad now the stress of it all can be more damaging than the food itself. Meanwhile dogs live longer lives generally.
