  1. I am guessing that this is the pair of morons that had over 100 dogs on the property already & some were removed by some welfare agency, forgot which ? It got a lot of publicity at the time. Seems the right to earn money over rides the welfare of the dogs & wishes of other residents. Crazy really when some people get knocked back on a permit to keep an extra dog, often small or elderly, in residential zones because one spiteful neighbour objects.
  2. Possible. My 3 girls always come in about the same time. Early last time at 4 months & a week. One that has got pregnant previously with only 2 matings & once with a quick slip mating did not get pregnant this time despite 2 matings with a tie, so its quite a possible reason. If he has not succeeded in getting her pregnant for 2 entirely seperate seasons & matings & they are both fine mated to other dogs maybe it is natures way of telling you something. Another stud dog now will complicate things if she has already got pregnant from the slip mating.
  3. Is he actually penetrating ? even partially ? 2 attempted matings is not much. She may be a slightly different height or angle internally. He may need to have a few more tries. Timing may be out even though she stands. Otherwise check her for obstruction & him for a sore back or penis. Bitch stands solid for him for 4-5 days but then 2 mating attempts is a bit confusing ? Was bitch standing & dog not interested ? Or did you only allow 2 tries ?
  4. Not relevant as not all registered breeders do it this way. Some are in & out in the day. The puppy won't respond to treats, training, run to them or eat all the food etc because it doesn't know what is going on yet. A day is not long enough. The baby has been taken away from mum & litter mates & sent to a strange place with people it doesn't know. All normal.
  5. This has been known about for years. My breed the toy poodle is one of the most popular for this. Registered breeders & puppy farms bulk ship to these countries & one registered breeder actually won a government export award some years ago for exporting pups overseas. Someone I know saw about 80 tiny x breed pups being booked in at the airport in the early hours one day. Crates & crates of them, so obviously it is all well known. This all should have been dealt with years ago That is why I really don't care if anyone critisises me for desexing my pups early.
  6. I use the heated beds for kittens. They are cheap, lots of them in the discount stores now. They dont feel very warm when you put your hand on them so they wouldn't overheat so I guess they are ok. Try one & see if she likes it. I wouldn't use a hot water bottle to leave in. Apart from safety, what if she starts digging the bed, like they sometimes do & it bursts, they also get cold & left in there can actually cause your dog to be more cold than if it wasn't there. Also if you can raise her bed off the floor, even a little it helps. It is several degrees colder on the ground. Small, low coffee table maybe ?
  7. Not really as I don't do crate training, prefer a puppy pen with newspaper/puppy pads at opposite end however it was her first night alone so everything would have been new & she would not know where she was alone in the crate in the dark & its absolutely bloody freezing outside in the night, I wouldn't want to go out there to pee or even walk on the cold ground. Pups do sometimes wee in their bed if they can't get out or are half asleep at this age. Time & patience, give puppy chance to get orientated. Big thing leaving mum & litter mates.
  8. The reason I wondered if it could be something physical if she has never barked is also that nervous dogs, timid & shy dogs can still bark & often do. Sometimes they may bark more than the confident laid back dog who do their job & let you know & then shut up. How they behave is partly their training & nature but I would be concerned if she never barks at anything ever ? All dogs bark at some time whether it be a little or a lot.
  9. My first thought is can she bark ? If you have never heard her maybe she can't ? They may have cut her vocal cords or it may be psychological. You may not be able to undo or fix this. I would not worry about this too much. Maybe get one of those motion sensor things that you can put near your front door that make a barking noise. I also wish my wouldn't bark. You would think we had 20 burglers in here the way they carry on
  10. I hope she gets the best & most wonderful home on the earth. Cried my eyes out when I first saw her.
  11. No idea but there is no exact right way of rearing a puppy anymore than there is a right way to raise children. We all have different ideas & a trainer may not have the same idea, expectations or do things the way you would like them done. Unless you have a specific problem that you have really tried to fix & can't & it is a big problem my advice is to Enjoy your puppy & try to stop fussing & stressing. He is a dog, a living being & while we do expect certain things from them they are not robots & are not all the same & we would not want them to be. Examples I don't mind my dogs sleeping on the bed & lounges, some people mind a lot You have to gain confidence so why not go to basic dog training, save yourself a lot of $'s & relax, enjoy him & meet some other people for a social outing. It seems that either you or the pup have constant issues. Not intending to sound mean to you, although it may appear so, but the issue is that you really do need to relax about this puppy or he is going to end up stressed by you.
  12. We had a thread on this here last year. I don't know how to find it. I was amazed at how many people thought this was a good idea. What a way to waste money that could be going to good use, like medical care for the poor, which I believe is a big problem in America. So many more things to worry about in this world than dog poo.
  13. Maybe stating the obvious here but if possible try & find someone who will let you see their dog having puppies. I know people that have said they want to breed & then they have got hysterical or practically fainted when it came to the birth.
  14. There are many ways to increase your knowledge & showing will help for some parts of it all but there is the matter of applying your knowledge & accepting that there is no way to get it all right & perfect. Nature sometimes does its own thing, unfortunately. One may be good at showing dogs but hopeless when it comes to the breeding part. One may be an excellent breeder but have no confidence for the show ring however you do need to attend shows & observe to know what your chosen breed is supposed to be like, there is only so much you can learn from books & pictures. Starting with 2 dogs from show parents & a good breeder is an advantage but does not guarantee uniform or great quality in resulting pups. This is where you find out how much your breeders can advise you on compatibility of particular lines & nature still dictates. So as you can see there is much more to it than the looks.
  15. Used Round Up for years. No problem. Phoned customer info & had a chat with them when I first thought about using it for a large area. Safe as it is I don't use it for the time I have pregnant girls or pups that have to go in that area. Hand weed for that period, which is a pain. Overall it is pretty safe though. Just being phobic.
  16. They may have only found 5 in the 551 searches because there were only 5 to find. I also believe sniffer dogs deter people or make them give themselves away by worrying about the dogs being around. As for them infringing peoples civil liberty what right do people have to carry drugs, explosives & weapons around ? What about the rest of us having civil liberty & the right to be protected against this kind of thing ? I think they should get more use out of the sniffer dogs & use them to search school lockers & patrol the playgrounds. Walking them outside shopping centres & in the parts the youths hang out in gangs would be good too. More use of all dogs in the police as well. I can't imagine them still doing their drug deals in the car parks if they were patrolled by some nice beagle sniffer dogs & some lovely huge german shepherd police dogs. In my dreams.
  17. Oh no. Not another revenue raiser, it won't come for free. More licences, certificate, papers, rules, whatever. It will become so hard to own a dog that in the end no one will bother except maybe the moron types who do what they want regardless.
  18. Generally they have enough sense to know what they are capable of clearing however with really small breeds I would be more careful. Off the bed is a small jump for say a dalmation but its a big jump for a pomeranian. I saw the kelpie cross over the road sail over the 6 foot iron fence the day it dropped its pups No use being phobic but some common sense should prevail.
  19. No idea. Its Angie's favourite place. I don't leave food out.
  20. Krusty is awful What I do is call the dog by its old name & the new name together as one word for a couple of days. Then drop the old name.
  21. Isn't it a shock. 35 years living in England & 25 years here & as far as pets are concerned its like being on another planet. So much fuss & rules made over it all & it does not make for better or more responsible owners. Or better pets. The general intolerance & expectations from cats & dogs can be a shock & popularity & the way some pet birds are kept, a lifetime in a tiny cage not big enough for a walk or wing stretch & out in extreme heat is horrid. No country is perfect & people have different ideas about rights & wrongs but I would like dogs to be welcome in more places & not perceived as dangerous beasts so much.
  22. Forget nasty shock collars. Buy a sports whistle. When they start yell quiet & blow the whistle. It shocks them into stopping, then praise. Only problem I found with this was to remember to keep the whistle around my neck.
  23. She is panting all the time as this is a normal sign of labour starting. She may pant for hours before contractions start. Her lungs are fine. Why are you praying the Poodle is the father ? Curious ?
  24. As long as she knows she is a person really & she does not copy any humping & still uses the toilet this is just cute.
  25. One of the largest & worst puppy farms in Victoria is owned by a vet. Conditions are horrendous AL have managed to get something done about it in the past but not to stop him completely. Makes you lose faith in humanity. These are people that should know & act better.
