  1. It doesn't matter what you do with your pup, that is not the issue here. The fact is that your neighbour obviously has no respect at all for you to even be saying this. If your pup has been terrorising & jumping all over his children, which I doubt is the case, he should not be bringing his children over to your house. It is not his place to discipline or hit your pup other than saying no or down or ah ah etc if it jumps on one of his children & is at risk of knocking them over then if you don't do anything or it is a constant problem he should go home with them & not come back, it is not his house or place to discipline anything.
  2. Toy Poodles vary a lot. Some will sell for $1,000 or even less if they are not selling by a certain age up to $3,000. I have only heard of anyone paying more than this for an import but that's not to say no one does. Some states are a lot cheaper to buy from than others too. Some of the $1,000 ones can be quite good quality & a $2,000 may not be. Luck of the draw & knowing what you are looking for really.
  3. Started the Plaque off yesterday here. No idea if it works yet but they love the taste & have drank heaps more water than usual. Its only a third of a capful in 8oz water. It was $28.95 for 475mls so will work out a lot cheaper than a tooth clean that an odd dog needs every so often.
  4. Hate to state the obvious here & not relevant now but Did you consider trying the gate to the back yard where the dog was ? Hope the pup finds a good home & is not PTS, owner was a bastard
  5. An acre is a big area for a pup. Is it all puppy proof ? Stuff lying around on the ground ? Snakes ? Any roaming or escape artist working type dogs locally that may jump your fence ? Few things to consider first.
  6. No benefit in taking your dog to meet the new dog & see how they get on. The rescue will know if the new dog is friendly with other dogs & how they are in your dogs territory is not the same as meeting somewhere more neutral. No difference if its male or female if its desexed. The dominance is not related to its sex, or rather lack of if desexed. Its the nature of the dog, or not.
  7. I don't think it makes any difference what age a puppy is to bond with the new owner. Mine leave at 10 to 13 weeks, I groom from week 5, socialise off my premises from week 6 & give them a few tries on the lead, no extra cost, but the sit, stay & do cartwheels etc training is for the owner to do. I have had various dogs come to me at 4 to 8 months old & have no trouble bonding. Bugger starting grooming at that age though, big screamings & wriggles Leaving at 8 weeks is probably easier on the breeder but no difference to the dog. Maybe discuss who advised her of this & why & why you disagree & see how you feel from there.
  8. It really would be better for your parents to organise this from their end. They can be there when the dog arrives & see what is happening with it too. A little but somewhat relevant is that I doubt anyone will be grabbing your dog for dinner en route so yes there were some silly comments. We keep pet lambs, bunnies, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese etc here & eat them too but we don't eat our pets. Your dog will be fine once it gets there, its just a matter of arranging it.
  9. Beautiful Gayle. I hope you have many happy years together.
  10. I also think many have posted without reading the OP properly. The person has only had the puppy for a day & a night. Pup was crated & taken out some & then slept on owners bed. Both puppy & owner sound distressed. Pup because it has left home & owner because they did not realise puppies do all this. It did sound as though owner was intending to crate a lot more than advisable & asked advice on leaving pup elsewhere. Not a bad owner. Merely someone new to it all that is not sure what to do & that has one screaming pup, which if you are not used to it is a bit scary. People here also have varying opinions on raising a pup & crating so more confusion now.
  11. This. Doing anything else is pointless until you establish that the puppy is actually registered.
  12. When my children were young we had 2 dogs PTS. Seperate times & ages. They both had cancer. I told my 3 young children the dog was sick & the vet could not make them better. I did not want them to have pain before they died & get all sick & hurt & suffer so the vet would give them a needle to go sleep, it would not hurt , & then they die in their sleep. They had the day off school & we had a party for the dogs & they said goodbye. I did not take them to the vet with me for PTS as I did not want this to be the last memory I don't think its right to lie to them about this.
  13. Basically pups/dogs should not live in crates. Use for not peeing all over in the night & for a safe place when you need to do things like mop your floors or have little visitors etc. For the rest of the time make a room puppy safe, put a barrier or gate across the door for when you can't watch pup or have it treking around the house at your heels & leave the crate open with all the nice things in that room & let him get used to going in there. For my little tiny pups I make a huge pen about 10 feet long as it is dangerous to let them run unattended for a bit longer, they can get get heads stuck under the lounge for about 8 weeks but I would not be putting any breed in a normal dog crate & certainly not a carry cage for anything more than overnight or safety. Many pups do scream at night, they are upset & babies, it stops. Your pup needs to run around & play like a puppy with less time in the crate.
  14. Some people think that a dog should never bite, no matter what the circumstances, & that if they do they are vicious or of unsound temperament. Bit silly really because given a certain set of circumstances any dog can bite, almost wrote they are only human The pup snapped in pain & fright that's all, any dog could react this way. Even adult dogs that never bite can do it if something is really hurting them & it is being messed about with. Like the ones that bite the vet, just to make you look a liar, when you say this dog never bites anyone normally.
  15. I always let puppies sleep when they want to & yes they do usually sleep a lot. I can't imagine anything worse that just wanting to go to sleep & being constantly disturbed. Your puppy will sleep in the night but may cry for a few nights initially, or not, regardless of sleeping in the day.
  16. They filmed part of it 10 minutes down the road from me. Sent my email to them for extras for the filming but was a bit late. they had them all by then. Have to go now to see who I know milling around in the crowd scenes It sounds like a good movie.
  17. I think a puppy form/questionnaire is a waste of time. People soon learn to answer in the way you want to hear, especially after a few rejections. Re the rude/breeding person at least they came straight out with it & you know, some say anything even I have a widowed mother & she needs a little friend & then you find what they really want, if you are lucky. Your pups can be bred from anyway if they go on limited register, not desexed it can breed. Just no registered pups so from a welfare view what difference ? General chatting & throwing a few questions in like Have you had a poodle before ? Yes, oh good so you know all about them & their grooming requirements, how long did you have your last one for, or similar. No, oh ok well I will tell you about them & you can have a think about it all. Poodle are a people dog now do you have young children or are you out at work all day. Will you be leaving your dog outside when you work ? You don't need to do the inquisition on the first contact, just gradually sneak it all in & you will get an idea of what they are like. Sorting out their new homes & owners is the worst part. I hate it & I have met some lovely people who really have give them great homes & kept contact however I do desex before they go.
  18. Wonder if it would be cheaper to bring in from Taiwan. Feedback much appreciated. A teeth clean at the vets costs so much & sometimes it is needed no matter what you do or feed for some dogs.
  19. Looks interesting. Wonder if there would be any trouble with customs bringing it to Australia. They can be rather strict on some things we would not even think of.
  20. There is no way to know how she will be without trying it. Sometimes they can suprise us. Could go either way however as it is interstate & you are concerned I would say it's not worth the worry & stress if it goes wrong.
  21. Don't know what it is but one of my cats recently got something similar on her paws, dry, cracked looking skin then peeling. Puzzled at first then got it. I changed her litter from soft sawdust to clay as she was confined to my bedroom to have her kittens & I didn't want the sawdust tracking in there. One of my sons also got this & we discovered it was when I mopped my floors with a certain disinfectant & he walked on them barefoot so Could be wrong but maybe start looking at what he is walking & lying on ? Any changes ? used any new garden/cleaning products ? new bedding ? Also possible to develop an allergy to things that were ok before, like grass, just happens sometimes no one knows why. Skin problems are a pain to solve. Skin problems & allergy may also develop when the immune system is low, which often occurs after or during unusual stress. Losing his mate may well have triggered it.
  22. Bet no one ever tries to rob their house or bothers them on walks.
  23. You must wait for 4 weeks since the last vaccination before having the next one. that is at 12 weeks.
  24. It is merely a matter of personal preference & makes no difference to anything much. Puppies need their last vaccine over the age of 12 weeks for full protection. Vaccines are given 4 weeks apart. Some breeders give 3 vaccines. Starting at 6 weeks & then at 10 weeks then at 14 weeks. Others may do One at 9 weeks & then the final at 13 weeks. I never saw the use of giving at 6 weeks as they still have some maternal immunity so whats the point. Either way is fine. There is now a new 10 week vaccine that only has to be given the one time but not many are using it yet. You should have been given a vaccination certificate with your puppy which should show the date the next vaccine is due. Do not give earlier than date shown.
