  1. Some dogs are just more difficult to train & take longer no matter what method you use but they generally get there eventually. Maybe go back to step one but use nappies or bitches britches for a couple of days. You will have to take her outside & remove the nappy very frequently but may help if they stay on her.
  2. About 30 years ago my mum used to just le the dog out, like they often did back then He was a mongrel about lab size. One day a man knocked on the door with the dog on a rope. Dog had an owner tag on his collar. Man said many dogs had been after his female dog that guarded his scrapyard but they couldn't get over the 8 foot fence, chain link. Except this old man who he could not help but admire even though it was a nuisance. He asked how old the dog was. The dog was 18 years old. Some guys never give up. I also had a dalmation that ate a hole through my back door & got out after me. He tore at the doorknob until it made a small hole & commenced from there until it was big enough for him to climb through. Whole new door was put in, with a small handle high up.
  3. In that case I think now may be the time we all phone our councils in the other states & ask if this will be allowed in the future.
  4. Yes, it is good, used it for years. When my girls are on heat & the boys get upset. They whinge & go mad to get to them & can go off food when its peak mating time. A little of this takes the edge off it & calms them without drowsiness. It helps if you know that your dog is going to be in a stressful situation & can give it beforehand. I tried using a thundershirt for one dog, once with the paste & once without. Big difference with it but as posted its not a cure all by any means. If found it worked better than rescue remedy. For the small cost it is worth trying & may help.
  5. Not how I would feed. Don't black Hawk make a puppy food ? Can't see the point of the yogurt, its just a dessert really unless you're giving Yakult as a probiotic, in which case a tub of Protexin powder would be more use & easier. Necks are useless for a big pup, he needs bones & commercial chewies left around, if he doesn't devour pigs ears etc in seconds. I would be giving a small feed of some raw meat & vegies or some canned puppy food if not sure all needs are being met however most dogs survive whatever diet is their owners preference & usually thrive & grow fine unless the owner is a complete idiot, you know moron throws a bit of dry down when remembered type.
  6. Full story ? Are they going to allow this at any time with any dog now ? Or was this just a mistake in their administration & they won't acknowledge it ? Was the breeders signature forged on the paperwork ? Or did they say that the breeders signature is not needed to do this ?
  7. I can understand all the reasons why you are upset but it is all manageable if somewhat awkward. I would not force them into a position of kennels, for their dogs sake if not theirs. Get a crate or maybe some of those round treated pine logs & a roll of wire & put up a temporary seperate area in the yard. If they can't be managed together with these just seperate rooms with the doors closed & turns out around the house apart. Its only for 14 days & they may get along absolutely fine after all your worry & upset.
  8. What does the breeder suggest/want ? If you are not comfortable with any part of this at any stage you should ask for them to take her home as she is their dog.
  9. If the dogs are registered on the microchips in her name & she has proof of this, which seems to be the case, why can't she just go & get them while he is not there & take them home. They are her dogs so it is not theft. Then if he wants them he has to go to all the bother of prooving they are his. As the police & the rangers are not interested & this is a property dispute let him deal with it all.
  10. I suppose it does amount to what each party agreed to & if they have honoured the agreement I would not feel right about taking someones money for a mating that did not produce any puppies regardless of what or which dog was the problem. It just wouldn't feel right for me personally. I would have refunded her money. The issues of why the breeder wanted the stud, why the other breeder allowed the stud use, the purpose of the pup & all the other things are not really relevant. Guess the final decision will be based on was she paying for her dog to have sex or paying for her dog to have puppies. I would be interested in knowing outcome.
  11. Another reason is that if he ever goes missing or get stolen he cannot be used for breeding. You may assume because he is indoors only & out with you & probably microchipped too that this will never happen or that you would get him back. Not always so. Make a list of pros & cons. It is also common & very much a man thing to have a horror of desexing. Some can go nuts at the thought of it
  12. Hard question with many variables. We can't love everyone we meet & I have had some owners that others have said oh they are nuts or something silly & they have turned out to be fabulous owners. If I really dislike someone & I don't know why this is extremely rare & I follow my gut instinct & say no. Which football team, politics, sexual preference etc is not important. However if they were a member of an organisation that discriminated against people, racist, extreme religion etc that I consider cruel or harmful I would be wary & it would probably influence me due to personal dislike.
  13. 6 week vaccines are said to be ineffective as there is still some maternal immunity at this age. One vaccine before 12 weeks & another 4 weeks after the 12 week mark is said to give full immunity eg just over 8 weeks & just over 12 weeks or 9 & 13 weeks etc. There is a new 10 week vaccine that is a once only shot for full immunity. I used it for pups last year & will do so again. Fine, no side effects at all. How long before the vaccine takes affect & is efficient I can't remember, best ask your vet at the time you have them done.
  14. Sometimes I admit I am quite suprised by how long both puppies & kittens (as I breed cats too ) are kept in a whelping box or crate. I know some breeders leave them in for 4 or 5 weeks. Mine are out at week 3. While they can't just be let loose around the house & yard for their safety there is no reason why furniture can't be moved around in the living area to accommodate large playpens so they can see & hear what is going on. I have similar play equipment set up in a spare room for my kittens so they can stretch, climb & go nuts in a safe area but not for my tiny poodles they would fall off. Sometimes I pop them in there while floor cleaning if its raining outside but I do take the ladder away. Discarded kiddy play things make great pet things with a little imagination. This slide was a throw away item. Big favourite with the cats with some carpet on it & an agile dog could use it.
  15. You all did well Happy owner now & happy & good puppy That is just what everyone wanted to hear Life would be boring if we were all the same. Asking opinions is fine but there are going to be varying answers which one has to consider, research & use one's common sense about too. There are weird & extreme people who have odd ideas everywhere. Such is life
  16. In Adelaide their euthanasia rates for cats & kittens were very high some years ago. There are not cages & runs overflowing with cats & kittens for adoption. I used to wonder where they all were. Not been in there for years. Too depressing.
  17. I don't know your state but most vets are capable of checking & grading patellas. It is not a specialist area unless there is a surgery required.
  18. Well something needs to be done. The dog figures are dismal but the amount of cats killed is enough to give me nightmares. Even allowing for a percentage of too sick, too feral or too old that is still disgusting. As some of the taskforce members are the ones doing the euthanising & not coming up with a workable solution to reduce these figures in the many years they have been operating what is the point of having them doing this ? The companion animals lose all their rights the moment they go through the doors. The cats aren't coming from puppy farms & not many are pedigree. They are coming from pet owners who don't desex their cats & feral colonies. I don't know what the answer is but the registered breeders will cop it somehow.
  19. Tranquil paste is for horses but fine for dogs too. Never thought of using it on others ? Not a medication. A natural product containing Tryptophan, vitamin B1, magnesium & a few other vitamins & minerals. Has a soothing effect but does not make them dopey or go to sleep. Works a treat on my boys when girls are on heat & they are edgy. It helps with nervousness.
  20. Its a puppy. Its needs cuddles & love & a little firmness & common sense. Not what this "expert" has recommended. Glad you are questioning this, for once. Like raising children, with dogs we all have our own ways & beliefs & the expert has theirs which you may not like & which are not always right. There is no right & wrong. There is what works, variable for every dog. Stop wasting your money & just love & treat the dog the way you want & have faith that you have some sense & can be firm & kind at the same time. Throw the filming device away. Put the dog inside a room where he is least likely to be heard, give him a dose of Tranquil Paste ( get from a fodder store) may help & in a no fuss fashion go out & do what you need to do & forget about worrying about the dog. The dog is this way because you are not relaxed. A cat would be a much better pet for you. They don't care about your anxiety & either like you or not & be themselves regardless.
  21. Small breed pups often stay with the breeder for a few weeks longer. It makes no difference to bonding, training etc. I do brush mine daily & bath & clip them from 5 weeks old. They need to get used to it & are still not well behaved for this for a few months, normal puppy stuff, but the shock to an 8 month old who has not had this done regularly is not something I ever want to deal with again. Was not fun. Yes they get things stuck in the fur so clip short, wear a coat or brush it out after are the choices. The schnauzer coat is much easier than the bichon or poodle. Breeder. Visit home if possible. Interstate ask if you can send friend or relative, if you have one there. Ask to see other dogs. Clean environment & animals. Relevant health tests & view results, anyone can just say yes its done. Are you feeling comfortable with the whole situation ?
  22. Is the cat entire ? If yes she may be spraying & on heat. This can trigger the dog. I breed cats as well as dogs & when a female cat is on heat one of my female poodles tries to hump the cat. Sounds like they are vying for top spot, bengals can be very bossy. If your dog is non breeding its best to desex. May solve the problem & desexing will not affect his coat at all.
  23. so true, even with risk assessment. I had a poodle got his leg caught in between the fence & fence post that goes across. There are millions of fences made this way world wide & dogs do not get their leg stuck. Good job I was home or he would have broke his leg. Same dog also got his toe stuck in the plug hole in the bath. One day I put pups in a room I was renovating, empty & quite safe I thought, while I mopped the floor. One got his head stuck in a tiny gap in some brickwork around a door. Probably dog above as I kept him With all the care in the world some things just happen.
  24. Pleased that you found a solution where the kitten will not be PTS. Most kittens that go into pounds, RSPCA, AWL do not come out. Many are sick or get sick when they go in there. They don't have the time & money for vets & blood tests etc for the huge numbers that end up there. Welcome here anyway. If you want a huge & often heated, interesting & sometimes funny debate or opinions this is the place.
