When I took a litter of poodle pups ( shaved face, feet & tail of course ) to a vets once a young girl working there said they are so cute. Do you shave them or are they born like that ? I do hope she was just a work experience girl.

Awesome Breeder probably has heaps of dog related stuff & everything needed. Unless you know her style & taste well I would go the traditional flowers & chocolate or maybe a nice plant, rose bush or something if they seem to like the garden & do it. Best of luck with your new puppy.

I seriously doubt it would be their food unless you are feeding some weird fad diet. Mine have ate all sorts of everything from home cooked to many commercial brands of dry over many years & have always fell pregnant. I would be looking at the stud boys & start by getting their semen tested before looking for any other cause.

What's The Weirdest Thing Your Dog Has Eaten?
Christina replied to Stressmagnet's topic in General Dog Discussion
Almost ingested. I tried using those puppy pads for toilet training but they kept having a great game ripping them to shreds. Another breeder said stick them to the floor with Blu Tac. 4 great big blobs of the stuff in each corner seemed to be doing the trick until I heard a weird whine & looked in to see one poor pup with its tiny mouth completely stuck together with Blu Tac. Funny but could have been dangerous if I hadn't have been home. -
Pup Growls When I Correct Him - Should I Be Worried?
Christina replied to Paws22's topic in Puppy Chat
You are not doing anything wrong. As long as he isn't barring his teeth, hackles raised ignore it & carry on as you are. Growling & similar noises can just be puppy talk, expression, but if you are not used to a puppy you may be worried. Its what they do with litter mates so if its not accompanied with any other signs of aggression its a nothing thing. -
Its too cold to leave a puppy outside overnight. Its a baby & has just left its mother & litter mates & will be lonely & scared. Its not safe to leave a puppy outside while you are out either. It may get up to mischief & in trouble that you have not anticipated. It may also get stolen. Never leave a young puppy alone unsupervised with a bone. Its a small breed so choose appropriate bones. You can buy a small grass doggy toilet. Cheap as Chips, variety shops & pet shops have them although they are more expensive in pet shops. My current 9 week old litter have trained themselves to use theirs. If leaving puppy in a crate for any length of time make sure it has room to room to run & stretch. Bunnings sell metal compost panels for about $28 for a pack of 4. You can buy 1 or 2 packs & join them up into a pen with the plastic garden ties. They are nice & high & better than the cheap puppy pens. Don't put food & water & the bed next to the toilet, put toilet at the other side. You may also use one to block of the bathroom, like a baby gate, a leave puppy in there with a warm bed while you are out. A soft slicker brush is ideal to use for grooming & a metal comb with narrow & wide spaced teeth at each end. You could also ask the breeder what they advise to use as they are familiar with this type of coat. Accessories are up to you & your budget. Lead, a heavy flat bottomed water bowl & toys are the essentials. Don't buy the cheap soft rubber toys. They chew them into pieces & chew the squeaker out. Not very safe really. Try & enjoy your puppy & not worry about it all. Everyone raises them differently & there is no exact right & wrong way. Use common sense & kindness & don't leave your shoes lying around  Post photos please.

I know if parti coloured poodles were allowed I would have them. Some are so pretty & it is a natural occurence in the breed. If colour is only cosmetic for the breed, not a health risk & occurs naturally without any out crosses then I think that the colour should be permitted.

Morning brain  I thought the party was at her own house. I would leave the dog at home. -
I have used Animal Transport on Henley Beach Road for years. Great prices, reliable, responsible & never had any cause for worry or complaint. Phone 8354 0499 m 0412818443

Being Called 'rude' For Setting Clear Rules.

I would buy one of those hook latch things for a couple of dollars & put a small padlock through it so no one can go in the room at all. Parties, drunks, dog like this do not mix well. There will only be 3 very tiny screw holes in the door which you can repair with ease after the event. Some people are just idiots. -
It never fails to astound me that people don't think about the above. Why would you want to hand over money to people who have the dogs in horrible conditions. Its not rescuing it it is only encouraging them to do it more. When it is that bad they should be leaving without the dog or puppy & reporting them.

I thought all vets used killed virus now ? Why use live anyway ? I think with cats, because the vaccine is for more for flu type viruses, that there may be more likelihood of this but am not sure of actual fact.

I have always microchipped puppies even before it became compulsary for registered breeders. I used to put the microchip straight in the new owners name & send it in myself. Now the vet fills in a litter registration form & submits it & I have to tranfer it over or give it to them. Is this with all microchip registries ? or is it only the one my current vet is using ?

Words are inadequate for the situation & the disgusting thing doing this, can't even call it a human being, so I will mainly comment on how & why this continues. As Above. Dogs SA are having a members meeting on May 14th about the proposed ammendments coming up in the dog & cat laws here in SA. I do hope that we don't become like Victoria. Why can't these people see, even when it is clearly pointed out to them, that the laws they are passing only allow for situations as in the quote. Mass, factory style breeding of dogs is being encouraged. It makes it difficult for small, breed dedicated hobby breeders who do breed well, with knowledge & much love & care for their animals. There are always going to be people who neglect, exploit & are cruel to animals, these laws are revenue raising & not in the interest of animal welfare although it may appear that way on the surface. Its all about the money. Look at what goes on in the horse & dog racing industry but it always flourishes. Its all so frustrating that the general public can't see what is going on. Consumer society & fed & swallowing government opinion on it all.

All my black poodles & one brown started going grey around the muzzle at about age 6. The oldest is 13 & is very grey now. Its nothing to do with how fast the dog ages, my 10 year old is still like a young dog bounding about like an idiot, the 13 year old is well but moving a bit slower. Grey does make them look older though, same as with people.

I would tell them that you are taking legal advice & would consider doing so. If you phone a lawyer & explain the problem they will advise you on cost for a consult & may even advise you on the phone at no cost. I would also ask again that they take the puppy to your own vet & that you will pay for the consult. Good luck with it. Difficult situation. Hope it works out ok.

Not sure about pet loos but the fake grass is good, sometimes my young pups train themselves & go on it. If you want to use the fake grass you need something better under it than puppy pads. I use the lid of a plastic storage box upside down under mine as they are tiny but I think you can buy rubber mats with a raised edge around. I had one years ago but cant recall where it came from.

Breeding Age For First Mating
Christina replied to steppenwolfstaffords's topic in Breeders Community
It depends on the individual dogs suitability re maturity & age. The rules are that some dogs must be over 18 months old & others are allowed to be mated after 12 months of age. Check the individual code of ethics for your breed with your canine association. Most dogs have their 2nd season after they are a year old anyway. I don't think its a good idea to leave it until 3 or 4 for a first litter, it can be a bit harder on the dog but many are perfectly ok at this age just as some are fine being mated after the 12 months. Larger breed dogs do take longer to mature than smaller ones. I don't think there is medically an optimum age for a first successful litter, within reason of course. If you feel your bitch is physically fit & developed & of allowable age then you must use your common sense & make the decision. -
2 girls have come into season, one has a 6 week old litter & the other is 5 weeks pregnant. She didn't come into season with them. No silent season, she has played with the stud male daily & he would know for sure. He has been play mounting her since I got her but certainly not with serious intent. It is a bit strange.

Mini Dog Clippers Where Can I Buy Them ?
Christina replied to Christina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Found them. Not quite as small as the battery ones I borrowed from a friend but still great & so lightweight & quiet. They are the Pro 2 by Showcraft. I got them from www.farmsupplies.com.au. I phoned them. They mailed them from Melbourne on the Friday & they arrived here in SA on the Monday. Great service. -
I had a lovely rechargeable tiny mini dog clipper for my little puppies & dropped them They were only $35 & were terrific but the person in the shop where I got them can't seem to get them in again. I can't remember the brand. I have internet searched & can only find ones from China, which I don't want, or battery ones. Can anyone recommend anywhere I can find them again ?

Of course you have to tell her even if only for future reference that the dog is no good around children having tantrums so that she can avoid such situations with the dog, like maybe not going to childrens playgrounds where they are all running around shrieking etc. Its up to her whether she has holidays or not in the future. Meanwhile maybe try the dog on some Tranquil Paste. Its good for horses & dogs & is available from fodder stores for about $20. I used to use it on my boys when the girls were on heat & not to be mated . They get quite upset, howling & wailing & sometimes losing appetite. It works quite well & doesn't make them dopey or anything.

If you do find it do not make it public where it is or where the ad is. Do what you need to do privately. Several years ago I saw a most disgusting photo & ad on a site & contacted several people I know interstate to see if they could go & make an offer for the dog & send it to me & I would transfer the money to them. I put it on here with photo. By the time I found someone to go & get it the ad had gone & they wouldn't answer the phone for days so I guess they had got several deserved abusive calls & asked for my post to be removed. Best of luck. It is very distressing this type of thing.
