  1. Am I the only person who yells SIT ? Confused dog sometimes just instinctively does it. Full on charging dog seldom reacts to anything really, too late by then.
  2. Remove the cat for a few days & see how he behaves. If all is normal then its a dominance/psychological thing, maybe somethings upset him ? If there is anything physical wrong & he humps other stuff or does weird things you will know. Maybe hard to keep a cat seperate but can't think of any other way to find out.
  3. Vet check for older dog. At their ages the pack order is usually fairly well settled & has appeared so for a while. Keeping multiple dogs for a long time I have found that when this has happened the older dog is affected by something & the younger dog senses it & seizes its chance to become top dog. Could be as simple as fading eyesight, not always drastic or dire. Seperate if it happens again, its a pain but you can't watch them all the time & damage is upsetting for the dog & expensive for you too.
  4. Dogs did survive without crates, cameras or being blocked in a foyer. Many pups have been fine left at home running loose with some sensible precautions & safety measures taken. An accident, if you mean toileting, is not the end of the world. The only thing I worry about when leaving a pup at home is that I will miss them
  5. That price is really expensive. Crates must be airline approved & have metal screws in the part that connects top to bottom, not plastic clips. If its only a short flight I don't think you have to put water in & food is not advisable. No need if its not hot weather.
  6. It may be that particular clipper. Try another style unless you get the Dremel & its ok. Maybe put a collar & lead on & tie him to a post so he can't get his head down to your hand. Or get someone to put hand under his chin so he can't mouth you. Have a treat that you only give when nails are done. My poodles get a dog choc but only when clipped. When its done I say choccy now & they run to the cupboard where they are kept.
  7. No, a healthy pup of this age gets hungry & eats heaps. Could be a belly ache, could be anything. Off to the vets tomorrow. 3 days is long enough.
  8. Really. I was thinking it was someone who is obviously homophobic & has bad eyesight & needs a big dog for protection & security as they are scared stiff of everything Is that your ex
  9. Let her be sad, its natural. Lots of hugs & nothing else.
  10. I would impose on friends & family again. No way would I leave pups with a person I did not know personally. Other people have different ideas on raising & caring for pups/animals the same as they do with children. Until I know someone & what they think is ok its a no. Some things that people do & think are ok make me go Even friends. To be honest even toilet crate training makes me think of a 2 year old child in a cot just big enough to turn in & woken up & sat on the outside/open air toilet every few hours in the night. Seems to be very acceptable for a baby pup Above as an example of varying views, not another discussion. Hope you manage to get a lovely couple of days away
  11. It would depend on why they couldn't locate the cat when it was first lost. Did they phone the pound & they said No, it was not there. This can happen. Was there a family emergency like the person was taken in hospital etc. I would want to know more about all this first & then decide however they should be charged for the vet work & any medical expenses if it is returned to them.
  12. Absolutely barbaric for both the pigs & dogs IMO. Surely a well trained marksman with a gun is the most humane option. No comprehension of how anyone could enjoy this or consider it a sport.
  13. Feed earlier & just take the pup out for toilet later at night. No advice on the crate as I would not crate any animal in sleeping room only & a PP40 is not a big space for anything. Upsetting for pup to be doing this & then having to sleep in it in that space.
  14. Not the best to carry him around. With a tummy problem he is best left to lie down & arrange himself to his own comfort. Scary when they get sick at such a young age.
  15. You need to give the treatment time to work. 24 hours is not long enough. Seperate from the others & try & keep him warm in a constant temperature. Drinking but not eating is normal for a day or 2. Small frequent offerings of boiled/steamed chicken with no fat on it & boiled rice won't upset tummy & is the usual for tummy upsets. Nothing else. A little vomit is fine but not if its heaps & often, then it is back to the vet. If you were like this yourself you would not want to eat, instinct until tummy settles so force feeding is not good. Hope he is on the mend soon. They can come up as quick as they go down.
  16. Both cute mongrels, german shepherd in there somewhere at a guess.
  17. It seems we have a new moderator This thread is getting so entertaining ;)
  18. Depends on your method of doing them. Mine have not been taught to lie on the table, except one very old one RIP, who had arthritis. I don't have any trouble at all. They know stand, sit, turn around, chin up, now your bum, up for belly & this one etc for each foot. Show me your teeth, ears which is not a popular word, & bath which does not get an ecstatic response despite being fortnightly. They are all little wriggle bum buggers for the first few months even starting at week 5 but they all end up good with firm patience & persistence however my time is not money. It is horrid when they are feral & untrained but does not excuse rough handling no matter how awful.
  19. & what would you have done if the dog was not an angel after that ? The next step ? I have been a groomer & would not have my dog groomed by many people I have seen doing this job. I have let people watch while I have done their dogs & there is absolutely nothing I would do behind their back that I would not do if they were there. The dog may be an absolute b*****d, usually because it is either scared stiff or objects, either way it deserves respect not some of the things I have seen. Firm does not have to mean rough or cruel. Back on topic I can't understand why you even did this dog. Telling your husband to say No, sorry & to shut the door minus the dog seems the best option or he may do this again. Training the owner is half the battle won.
  20. I also remember tracking down breeders only to be told they weren't interested in rehoming them especially because the dogs had to be desexed first. This must have been a long time ago as I spoke to them about 2 years ago & the person answering the phone even spoke to the supervisor. Desexing was not the issue as I did say everything was desexed. I was worried about any being PTS & explained this quite clearly. Why PTS rather than send back to the breeder ? If they had said we rehome but if we can't you can have them back I would understand better
  21. I spoke to the RSPCA & asked if any animal I bred was surrendered to them would they please contact me & I would come & get it. I did not want any PTS. I explained I was a registered breeder & offered a lifetime re home but was worried in case any ever ended up there. All animals go to their new homes desexed & microchipped. They said NO When it comes in here it is ours & we decide what to do with it What can you do ?
  22. Yes. At this age your puppy will still sleep a lot of the time. Getting used to time alone now is better than starting leaving a puppy at an older age. As long as the environment is safe your puppy will be absolutely fine.
  23. Refer to the pinned subject above Puppy Socialisation & have a read through. I recall something about not pushing them when in the fear period or some kind of advice. Take a look.
  24. Yes this. Big time. Maybe if there is a husky breeder reading this they could go & check & find out the breeder & let them know.
  25. Maybe play around with the letters or take some from each eg Dorne Ansla Lansla Its a bit hard to incorporate the breeds in the name & there is no common factor to denote the breeds. Maybe have a re think & choose something completely unrelated.
