  1. I can't believe this. Everyone knows the Tooth Fairy takes them
  2. No way. My pampered lot will hardly get their feet warm to go out to pee, they do it so quick then bolt back to the door to get back in to the air con. My breeding cats that are out in the runs are all brought inside too. I can't catch the 2 chickens to bring them in. My lot would cry & die if I left them out I think. 45 in the garden today.
  3. Indigirl has given you good advice. The biggest mistake people make is to put the 2 dogs together too soon. You are bringing another dog, a very young one, into your dogs territory & personal space. Go slowly. My dogs are great & love it when one has puppies but I never let them run loose with the adult dogs. Introductions are on my lap or around the outside of the pen. I have had a few young adult dogs come to me & don't leave them unsupervised for the 1st 3 months. Pups are not left with adults until 6 months. Better safe than sorry. Seperate & supervise, the pup may get fearful or damaged if it does not learn submission quick & some just don't.
  4. Not had this but many years ago a girl had a litter 2 weeks early. Pups were alive but vet said let them go. Too many problems develop this prematurely. Lungs may not be functional, long term health may not be good & they may die despite all efforts. Very sad. On the plus side another girl had 3 litters all 6 days early. Seemed the usual for her & they were all good sizes & well & thrived. Fingers crossed for you. What a worry.
  5. Much the same here. 2 singleton pup litters & 2 singleton kitten litters. I did keep them in the busy living area & let all the other dogs run around the outside of the pen (supervised ) as soon as their eyes were open rather than waiting 4 weeks to do this & introduced them face to face a bit sooner & carried them around/cuddled a bit more. Great natures with people & dogs. I think it makes them a bit nicer being the only one.
  6. me too. I can't stand seeing any animal or child mistreated. The vet may not have said anything because the vet doesn't think there is anything wrong with this kind of discipline. They vary in their ways too. I also don't think its an old people thing. Many old people that I know & in my family would not do this to a dog & some young people do think its ok You have to do what you are comfortable with doing or saying.
  7. My prefix is the same for cats & dogs but I did have it for the dogs first. I would just phone & ask why & then ask about doing the appeal if you are not sure how to.
  8. I feel better now after reading that lot as I sit here in the computer room surrounded by 4 large dog crates that are unused & some have stuff in them. A huge crate off the back of a ute that is in use a bit. 4 carry cages because I need some inside that are not dusty just in case. 2 large dog beds & 3 cat beds, a shelf unit full of clean bedding & 2 tables, 1 for grooming & the other for the dryer & stuff. Suprisingly its not too untidy or cluttered considering. That's merely a little of the stuff as I have cats too Wish I wasn't so bug/rodent phobic & would use the sheds. I won't put any animal stuff in them at all.
  9. Your plan to go with Virgin with the dog on the same flight is the cheapest you will get. You will have to taxi instead of bus at the other end. If you tell them your dog is small & in a carry cage they should be fine about allowing you in a taxi, although some individual taxi driver/owners may prefer not to they should be able to send you one who is ok about it.
  10. A mix of half white vinegar & half warm water is fine for cleaning ears. A little boracic acid powder in the ear before they go in the water helps too. Obviously though if there is serious infection the vet is the place to go but these 2 things may help & are not expensive or difficult to source.
  11. 1st question & the last 2 are not at all relevant to what you stock or could stock. I would not put them in. They just sound nosey.
  12. This is just out of interest Christina, why do you like them to be totally indoors? Is it due to their size? or moreso that they need to be with their people? I don't mean that the dog is never to be allowed out in the garden/yard. They are happier being part of the family & following you around inside or outside. Leaving dogs outside when there is no one home is something I would only do with a large dog. At least the size may intimidate any would be thieves of the dog or property. Snakes are also an issue in some places. My dogs would never deal with a snake, they would want to play, get bitten & die if they were outside with no one home.
  13. It would be nice if the breeder could get the dog back if it gets surrendered but not here in SA, unless its picked up in a private rescue. They won't give it us back I desex, vaccinate, microchip & pray it never happens. I still do a note on the form though useless as it may be. Most of the x breeds I saw here, when I used to look ages ago, were guess what it could be & we tag it. Mostly staffy, german shepherd, heeler, kelpie, lab or rottie if it had any pattern remotely resembling one. Mainly medium to large mongrels.
  14. I don't even ask. Most people who own houses to rent that don't mind pets very seldom object to a toy poodle. They don't shed, make a mess & do not usually live outside. I do specify that my dogs must be indoor dogs. If they work full time & want to leave the dog outside they do not get one of mine. I guess, for example, that if they had 3 large dogs & wanted a 4th this question would be relevant. So depends on circumstances.
  15. I would be tempted to stick the 1 year old in there Only thing I can think of is to put your dog in another room or outside if possible when the nephews are visiting. Then he won't feel its a punishment. Shame to have to crate the dog if he is sociable & enjoying visitors.
  16. There is no right or correct answer to your questions really. Its an individual thing & there was life without crates. Use your common sense & don't do what everyone else does. Do what you personally feel comfortable with. For me as a breeder & a multi dog household I use crates & pens at times for safety & for baby puppies, mine are a very tiny breed. Huge pens & large size dog crates joined up together. I could not confine an animal for long in a small crate & do not believe it is beneficial unless it is sick or injured & has to be still or constant temperature etc. I think toilet training using a crate the animal can't move in except to turn/stand is awful. Your dog is part of your family. Treat it like one, tell it off when needed, be firm & consistent with your rules, share your bed unless it makes you ill & your dog should become a sociable & obedient companion. A crate does not do magic things & many people misuse them because its easy. However if you show or breed its best it does get used to a crate as it has to really.
  17. I can't understand why you are upset really. There is nothing the breeder has done that is incorrect. The breeder chooses the pedigree name. If you get any input it is a courtesy that the breeder does this. I offer puppy buyers a choice of a few pedigree names if they want but I choose the names. I don't want my pups registered with something like Bimbo the Second or The Little Mermaid which may be the choice & you offend if you say no. For the council registration they don't care or want to know if your dog has a pedigree, a health issue or comes from the worst puppy farm they have allowed to function in the area. They just want breed, age, sex, colour & your money. Try & enjoy your puppy, who I am sure is gorgeous, Photos ? & de stress about it all. No one has done anything wrong from what you have posted.
  18. You must feel so awful right now so its not the time to even try to make sense of it all. Wait a week until you are less in shock & then think of the questions you would like to ask your vet & have a chat then. No one on a forum could know what went wrong really. So many things can go wrong in breeding & sometimes there is no clear answer. Hopefully your remaining pups will thrive so try & focus on them. In a short time they will be running around & making you smile again.
  19. Why 'sadly'? Who in their right mind is going to take on a universally respected Prof of Psych on something he did 50 years ago with the approval of his Ethics Committee because one person wants to call him a torturer of animals. I'll ask again, have you ever seen a medical specialist and then abused them for conducting experiments 50 years ago for their PhD so they could cure you? I dont get it because a lot has changed in the last 50 years so bringing something up that he did half a century ago when it was accepted has absolutely no bearing on what he does today. For me personally, if I had any say in this decision, which I obviously I don't It would be more what kind of a person is this who could do & approve of this kind of an experiment ? No matter if it was approved in its day or not. How does someone have to behave re their past before we judge them for their current position if it is influential ? I am always skeptical of what is done under the guise of psychology, including the treatment of people too. It was quite torturous & inhumane for many people in the name of science & what was good for them. If I found someone had conducted experiments on people 50 years ago that were inhumane I would not want them treating me. No matter how good they were at their job. People working with dogs should be dog loving, we hope.
  20. I don't know anything about this but doubt you would get much response. It was recently in the media about a mayor in SA who was prosecuted & found guilty of animal cruelty. People objected to someone of these ethics being mayor but it was of no use.
  21. You need to get her attention to teach her to be quiet & it sounds like she is on a roll & doesn't hear you. My 6 month old does this too. Get a sports whistle, they are only a few dollars, & blow it really loud when she barks. Then when she looks at you completely puzzled you can tell her to be quiet & then praise her. Do it instantly every time. Works with some dogs, worth a try.
  22. Oh for goodness sake As a poodle breeder I understand the post perfectly & there is no need to lecture for asking a valid question. Yes the black "points" are most desirable on a cream. Breeding to a black dog is fine but you may get all black puppies. Check your pedigrees thoroughly & run them past a breeder with a good poodle database & knowledge, if you can find one. Also remember that genes do not always act as predicted or as we expect. Brown points are not a disaster, just that black is preferable. Good luck
  23. Obviously the groomer is not artistically inclined Shorn sheep is a good description. Some can clip short fine but not do much more. I agree it must have been a shock but it will grow again. Gorgeous dog.
  24. Yes it should have been explained to you that the matts had to be shaved off. But I just wonder what was said in the 20 minute discussion ? That is a long time, I couldn't even discuss my own hair cut for 20 minutes. Was the groomer trying to explain something ? Many owners do not realise that getting matts out can & often does hurt the dog. There is no magic pain free way although some groomers do have better techniques for doing it some can be so rough too. If there was an injury on the leg getting matts out could not be attempted. Your dogs hair will grow back nice. A regular brush, properly & speaking to the groomer when you go in should communicate your wishes clearly in future.
