  1. Are you sure, Christina? This girl is a pig and eats her Black Hawk in seconds flat! I'll start giving her lunch too though, since she has only three and a bit weeks to go. Sure about the too fat to deliver bit ? Yes. With my own 3rd child I went from 7st 10lbs to 11 stone delivered in under an hour & got my figure back quickly with no special effort. Being pregnant really does make some so hungry. Its not greed, growing babes in your tum is hard work. Some will eat up to 3 times the normal diet & when feeding too.
  2. My girls are always pigs too. At this stage I give them 3 feeds a day & leave puppy biscuits out 24/7. Dry being their last preference I reckon if they are genuinely hungry they will pick at them in between feeds. Wouldn't worry about fat at this time, give her what she needs, feeding pups should use up some of the fat & you can slim her down when they are weaned. She won't get so fat she can't deliver.
  3. Has she been mated before ? If not check for vaginal stricture. One of my girls had this, easy to fix. Has he mated before ? If not he may need practise until he gets it. If they have mated before the timing is off. Seperate & try again tomorrow or the day after. Time yet.
  4. I love all dogs & animals so could love any dog that landed here but given a choice Poodles are my breed & favourite. Great Dane is my 2nd. Least favourite is based on looks as I merely accept temperament variations as part of a living creature, except aggression although I prefer my dogs to be affectionate companions if possible of course. Sharpei would have to be the breed I can think of that would never tempt me looks or personality wise I think we would be a mismatch but who knows. Squashed in face breeds scare me. I would panic & be saying breathe, breathe if they started snuffling. Drool breeds not for me either. Interesting how people perceive nature in breeds, not always so. Just a guide really.
  5. yes. Not every dog likes the show ring. It does not mean the temperament is bad. It means they don't like the show ring.
  6. I see that remark as being rude & insensitive & quite stupid under the circumstances. Even if the child was a silly little brat that ran up to the dog, which he obviously is not, no mother with a child that is badly injured & traumatised needs to be told this or be told how to feel about the dog at this moment. Hopefully the child will come out of this ok mentally & physically & kind words to this effect is all she needs right now. The rest can be sorted later, including the fate of the dog.
  7. Guess its too bad on the first point, you have no rights. One day you won't be able to become a breeder with dogs in the comfort of your own home as family, if this lot gets passed. You will be able to buy acreage, build kennels with concrete floors & breed dogs there as long as you comply & pay all the fees. Tragic for the dogs. I don't trust these specialist to write legislation. Look what happened with children. Parents have very few right anymore.
  8. heartbreaking. Its the pits when this happens. I lost a hand raised kitten on day 6 a few weeks ago. Sometimes all you can do is try & then cry. Nature can be cruel. Its the part of breeding I can never get used to. You did your very best.
  9. Until breeders understand what exactly it all means in relation to themselves I guess they should be protesting any new laws or regulations. There are enough laws in place to see that dogs are not neglected or treated cruelly. If they can't enforce those we have what is the point of all these new ones ? We know what legislaters & the mostly haven't got a clue about dog breeding general public want but what do breeders actually want to happen ? Every time new laws are made regarding dogs & cats it seems to me to be the way backwards not forward.
  10. Read it all now. Some good, some over controlled like registration to breed with only 1 bitch. Don't like the making all states the same part. SA is very reasonable for dog & cat breeders unlike Victoria. Nice to have a choice on where you live to suit your lifestyle. I still can't see how this legislation will stop commercial puppy farming ?
  11. Maybe nothing wrong. Maybe she did not need to go those times. She may go later. When mum cleans we don't know for sure how often a puppy goes, it is probably as needed so stimulation is just in case. I would use the ZSC powder, from the chemist for the same, rather than cream which can sting on sore bits sometimes. Normal to worry about everything when hand raising, its nerve wracking really.
  12. Not exactly comfortable, no bedding & too small IMO. One wouldn't know how long they are left in there. I have those crates, if they are the metre long size & I joined 2 up for my 3 kittens who had to be confined for a day after desex. I wouldn't put them in one cage so cramming a big dog in there doesn't meet with my approval. The fine is a bit steep. More sensible if she got a warning & they came out to check later, in a given time frame, that those crates were gone & decent size runs/crates provided.
  13. Number 5 the mandatory standards for the conduct of dog breeding is also open to interpretation so I wonder which "expert" decides this one ? If it means concrete cleanable floors & minimum cage sizes & no whelping in the house etc the puppy farms may be on a winner here while my spoilt like house doggies are not approved of. Number 6 is frightening. I think commercial puppy farms who adhere to legal requirements are going to be the only place to get a dog in the future at this rate.
  14. That's good news. It is scary when they are unsettled & you don't know whats wrong.
  15. Sign the back of the pedigree form yourself, just squiggle a signature. Not right but they are not going to do this for you & don't care. Send pedigree in for transfer to you. Take the dog to a vet & get a booster shot & vaccination card for the dog training. As long as you have had the dog for 4 weeks before you vaccinate there is little risk even if he has been done before. Only a C3 vaccine though, for now. Phone the microchip people & explain the problem. I think if they send out a transfer form & if they don't hear back from the people within 4 weeks they can sort this out for the dog to be in your name. Phone & ask. You should have got the signed pedigree. A vaccination certificate. A signed microchip transfer form or they could just do this for you but It is not going to happen. Otherwise phone your canine association & ask if they can help you but I would be sorting it out yourself, they may or may not help & it won't be quick.
  16. What is she actually trying to do with the puppy ? Is she merely moving it to another spot, too hot, too cold etc Is she trying to stop the puppy nursing off her & keeping it away from her teats Is she trying to get the puppy out of her bed She may be trying to make the puppy more comfortable because she knows there is something wrong or she may be trying to get rid of it because she knows there is something wrong or it could just be her hormones playing up & making her act nuts. Sit & watch carefully & try & figure it out but if she hurts the puppy you will have to keep it warm, toilet & feed it.
  17. I have no idea but good luck. Having hand fed a few kittens & puppies one thing I try is not to be too phobic about the weigh bit. Sometimes a tiny gain doesn't show on scales, its hard to register 5 grams even the way they lie on the scale can alter it a fraction. At the same weight for 30 hours I find I worry & then suddenly the next weigh in can show 10 grams more. A long as weight doesn't drop it can weigh the same for a day or so. Of course you do have to weigh often though. Ceasarian makes puppy more dopey too. 95 grams is small but a viable weight for this breed, my last 2 pups were 100grams & mums milk came in on day 6. Natural birth too. Fingers crossed all goes well for your little girl & look forward to some cute photos soon.
  18. Phone Dogs SA & ask if the breeder is registered with them. They will say yes or no. If you feel the dog is what you want & everything else apart from the registration thing sounds ok why not go & visit. The pups may be wonderful & the environment fantastic. Then if you are interested in a puppy ask them this question. On here people can only guess why. Who really knows.
  19. My dogs are better cared for, fed, loved & live a better life than many children in the world but they are still dogs. They are loved & cared for as family but they are still dogs. They can sleep on lounges & beds & live inside but they aren't fed at the table with a bib on & dressed in silly outfits etc. Watching the Doolittle movies last night was hilarious but I find it so weird to realise that although its only a movie some people do treat their dogs & pets this way in real life
  20. Little dog. little insides, can't hold on for as long as a big dog. You know yourself when you have got to go you have got to go, can only wait so long. If she goes on the floor if there is no puppy pad she will go in the crate too, which is distressing for the dog, they don't hold on if they can't. Unless she barks to wake you up, then will you wake up ? Some of my adults will bark & scratch on my bedroom door to go out at 5 or 6 am. 2 younger ones go on the fake grass dog loo. With toy breeds I think they need 2 feeds a day. Maybe just hold breath & shove stinky puppy pad in plastic bag quick in the mornings. Could be worse.
  21. Thank you. I feel like an idiot now
  22. They have changed their website I can't find the breeder log in anywhere on the new site. Help anyone ?
  23. All my puppies are desexed at around 10 or 11 weeks. They come home from the vets after like they have not had anything done to them at all. I have never had one have any problem ever & they are vaccinated & microchipped at the same time. They are only knocked out for a very short time, its a quick procedure. For my particular small breed being the top dog in demand for cross & puppy farm breeding I consider desexing is the lesser of the 2 evils. Many pet owners may let their little girl have just one litter or their cute little boy become a daddy & look after them & the litter very well & have no ill intention at all. Then they sell the puppies, undesexed, no contracts or checks & unintentionally, without realisation, they end up perpetuating the circle of breeding we are trying to prevent.
  24. Another puppy  but not practical for everyone. I have a small shoe rack full of those ugly croc shoes. Paid $1 a pair for them in a cheap variety store. Was for slipping on to go in the yard but its all the dogs favourite toy. Quite indestructable for my poodles, tough plastic.
