  1. Overwhelming is correct & often conflicting too. Do's & don'ts are a mixture of common sense & personal preference. For example some say never let your dog on your bed or furniture or you will have pack problems. Not true. Mine go where they want & when I say move or get down its obeyed instantly. A dog will try to please if it knows what you want. She's a working breed so will get bored quickly & will respond to training well. You just have to decide at the start what the rules are & what you expect from her. Remember she is only a baby & will be naughty & silly for a while yet so keep her safe & enjoy her without stressing on do's & don'ts. Enjoy her she is very cute :)
  2. Guess it would depend on how often they chased their tail. In fun occasionally is fine, constant/daily is not. If mine do this its only because they have a piece of something from the garden stuck in their fluffy bits. Never had a tail chaser dog.
  3. Because although there are so many other descriptive words in the english language that can be used somehow when you are feeling really angry they just don't seem to flow into the thoughts & out of the mouth  I never, ever say piffle when I hit my finger with the hammer or stub my toe & am in agony. It may be in my brain but what comes out of my mouth takes me by suprise because I don't swear often. Moronic bogan is not so bad. I was here years before I knew what bogan was intended to convey or even insulting.

  5. After years of using Oster & occasionally used Andis I bought the KM Wahl 2 speed. Love them They fit my small hand nicely, are a good shape & don't heat up quickly. As your dog has been going to the groomers regularly it will behave so go ahead with confidence. I think the snap on combs are sometimes difficult. Make sure your dog has no knots in the coat, a good brush then comb before you start. Remember to always hold the blade flat on the skin & run the clipper up & down your own arm to get the feel & the amount of pressure you apply comfortable. Too much will be unpleasant for the dog & too little is useless & won't clip properly. Most important is to check the blade has not got hot. This can happen without you realising when you are concentrating & can burn the dog. Put the blade on your own hand or arm now & then to check. It doesn't matter what clippers you use really as long as you can use them ok & your dog feels comfortable. The finish depends on the groomer not the brand of clippers. Your dog doesn't care about its haircut & it soon grows back if you stuff up so get clipping. :)
  6. Funny little girl Katy, age 1, has started to recognise dogs on the TV. They don't have to make any noise. It started with the wolf on a nature programme a couple of weeks ago. Camera zoomed in on its face & she ran up to the TV barking & growling & stood up on her back legs. Tiny girl. She hates the dog at the end of the RSPCA ad with a vengeance & also runs up & stands on her back legs to bark at it every time the ad is on. Now she sees the dogs in any programme. She is food guarding too now. So weird. None of the other dogs bat an eyelid. Anyone elses dog do this ?
  7. Agree with above. If there was no fence the dog could do anything, its not really in its yard is it ? Its loose on the part of the street that belongs to the house. If a dog is secure in its own garden/yard behind a fence & cannot get to you its just tough luck if its a noisy, aggressive pain when you walk past but running loose regardless of who owns that bit of land is different. Bet you are glad its not a huge dog. I would hate this if I was out with my dogs.
  8. No idea why people think this. Almost every toddler I have seen lately has its finger up its nose like they are digging their brains out. My beaming smile & wave at the last one was greeted back with finger up nose & offering of results of dig Don't parents tell them their face will cave in & their brains fall out or similar
  9. Not sure if its the same now but I lived there until I was 35. Children were not taken into licensed premises at all. No one wanted children in pubs or to take them there. For some restaurants they were allowed in the day time for meals but had to leave by a certain time. In the pub never. I was quite shocked by how children were allowed into so many places when I first came here but dogs were not. You could take your dog into the pub there & I saw dogs in the village pub where my sister lives 2 years ago on my last visit. I think dogs on a lead should be allowed anywhere & it should be at the discretion of the management, without penalty, to ask those not under control to be taken out.
  10. Good advice from pepe001. You never know what nuts will do next & there is no cure for it. Arm yourself. No problems here but I have lived next door to some horrid people years ago in the city. Very difficult. Good luck.
  11. Yes, especially if there have been strangers in & out & much banging. Guess she is leaving its my house warnings. How about staying out with her until she goes & then giving her her a treat & praise, just temporarily until all is back to normal.
  12. No, sleep beside her. Even if not due you will feel better. I have also had a girl that had day 58 pups, 3 times. All ok. The pups may be shuffling around & giving her false signals so she thinks its almost time & is behaving accordingly.
  13. What is wrong with your dog greeting you when you come home ? Mine all make a fuss like idiots & as though I have been out all day when its usually not for long at all. I say hello to them give them a pat & then say shut up, be quiet & get down. Not so hard to deal with. Sounds like normal dog behaviour.
  14. My toy poodle is 10. Still siring litters. All is well & his sperm count last year was fine Guess it does depend on the individual dog but age is not always a barrier.
  15. Deals direct have the large size dog crates at a good price at the moment. You may be better with rows of those. Many groomers make their own rows of cages too, or have handy men to do it for them.
  16. Maybe try & relax a little & remember that people & pups have survived centuries without playpens, crates, experts & internet forums. There is no one right way formula. Let the pup just be around you & the place while you can watch it & don't pay attention & play with it all the time, they just need to be sometimes, only place in the playpen when you can't keep an eye on it for any length of time. Or when mopping floors etc. As long as it knows where its supposed to go to the toilet it doesn't have to be penned. Put any unsafe things out of reach & puppy proof the place. Outside is fine with supervision. There is no such space as too big for a puppy. Go out for lunch or shop or see a movie & leave it alone & relax.
  17. Depends why you are getting it done. One of my girls is having one today. She is very fine built, first time & I am not sure if she will need a ceasarian or not. Not a planned mating as the boy was only 5 & a half months old & I didn't think he was capable. Wrong. Last time it was $80 I think so will see. Vets do vary in price so much. Unless there is a particular reason I can't see the point either. Have had singletons born with ease in my dogs & cats. They are not always a problem.
  18. I have used Animal Travel the last 3 times for interstate but they do international & many other breeders highly recommended them. There is one in every state, internet search them, they have websites. Costs & service are so variable for the same thing. Funny that you love the UK. 2 visits to my mum in the last few years made me love Australia more, I hated it & could not live there unless it was in a small village like my sister or a very affluent area, maybe. So many people & so crammed.
  19. How frustrating. Go over to www.cat-world.com.au & post on the forum there. Someone who lives in that area may have a suggestion or refer you to a cat rescue.
  20. New baby & moving houses sounds like it has stressed her or brought back some bad memories. Do you know her history ? She may have been put outside or got rid of due to a new baby or a move ? If the vet check goes well maybe some rescue remedy, extra walks & attention may settle her gradually. Life would be so much easier if they could talk.
  21. I find the raw chicken wings safer. No necks here, they have got stuck in the teeth. Cut the wing in half to start with & supervise. Sometimes canned puppy food is easier, & millions of pups do fine on it, maybe try another brand. The roo is ok as long as pup eats some puppy dry as well. Mix them together if pups not keen on dry.
  22. They all seem to do the job unless there is an intense or unusual worm problem. I don't like giving pups anything too strong so do not use the heartworm/flea all in one type products. At 4 weeks & after I use Ambex. You can but them online. Think its 100 tablets for around $55. Its a broad spectrum wormer for cats & dogs so I can worm all cats & dogs regularly & any pups & kittens for a very reasonable cost.
  23. The money part is the luck of the draw. They can charge what they like. Yes it was expensive. The see your own vet for aftercare is standard. It is an emergency vet. The part that troubles me is that you say there was intense pushing for an hour & a half before they went to the vet. It would concern me that the dog was left for so long at the vets having contractions & nothing happening after they told them this. If it was merely a break in labour, contraction free, then that is different & it happens. Making them leave the dog at the clinic & it labouring for so long before the ceasarian would upset me. It must have been so stressed. Only once have I needed a ceasarian on a cat that was contracting but could not produce the kitten after an hour & a half. When I got to the vet they examined & operated straight away. This is what I would expect & want. Guess neither of you will be using their services in future. After hours care that you can use with confidence is an essential & many are pot luck.
  24. Actually, if you watch the ad you will see that it is not a comparison with fishing. They are talking about fish that are skinned or gutted while they are still alive. BTW, I'm not a fan of PETA, but what is reported here and what their ad is actually about are two different things. I don't want to see the ad & agree if it compares fishing to domestic violence it is ridiculous however re the fishing. My father took me fishing when I was 10. It was extremely distressing to me seeing the fish with a hook in its mouth & gasping & writhing. Never eaten fish since. Also watched a japanese cooking show one day & was sick to see the chef cutting up a live fish. How anyone could do this to a living creature I cannot comprehend. i don't think fishing is sporting or humane.
