If you are going on honeymoon in Australia can you find a place that allows dogs. That way you wouldn't be worried & the dog would be happy.

Nightmare Over For Dog Owners As Council Rules Out Appeal
Christina replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
They should have charged the person with trespassing. What an idiot. -
When I have visitor I let them in :) but I wouldn't be letting that on of yours in & would say get out if anyone raised a hand to my dogs, no matter who it was. Depends who it is. If its small children with having quite a few I usually put some out until they are not so excited. With a big dog that jumps it has to learn to behave so depending on who the visitor is & if they like dogs I would put outside, behind a gate or on a lead, whichever you think suits the situation.

Not uncommon. It may be that you have been recommended. They may not want to wait. They may just like the look of your puppies, advert, website or what you say. Many people buy interstate.

Despite all the advice & what you have read there is no one right way to raise a puppy. Most end up fine with no experience or experts. The most important thing is that the pup understands what you expect of it & what you want it to do. It cannot obey you if it doesn't understand & its variable with each dog & breed. Some pups are a bit silly & others seem to get it all straight away. I use a fake grass toilet or newspaper when raising pups here & they all toilet train fine when they go to their new homes. It doesn't confuse them at all. Fake grass toilet is good for small breeds but its best to take outside regularly & choose one word that means go to the toilet that your pup will learn to understand. Keeping your puppy safe is the other thing. Puppy proof your home whether you leave it loose, crate or pen. Your puppy needs to get used to being alone so even off work go out for some of the time. If you choose to confine remember puppies need to run, play & move to develop strong healthy muscles so a large pen is kinder than a crate, join up 2 pens. If you are not comfortable with any advice or suggested way of treating your dog then don't do it. Kind firmness & consistency & patience is the way to go no matter which methods you use.

Having a tiny breed I put a folded quilt on the floor & then place a cardboard box on it, cut an entry hole for mum & drape a blanket over the box to make a cave/den. No use for big breeds though. I also use the microwave heat pads, put in the corner the pups automatically move towards it if cold. Got them online for only $50 including delivery. They stay warm for about 8 hours. So scared of anything chewing wires & the small heated pet bed/pads are fairly useless.

A few days before mating & then not at all while pregnant. I don't understand how hormones can influence worms ? I thought they got them from fleas, raw meat or soil usually ?

How Long Can A Dog Stay In A Crate For Safely?
Christina replied to Willowlane's topic in General Dog Discussion
As above. Its fine at night when the dog is naturally sleeping but not in the day. Can't you make a room dog safe, if the dog is barking they may or may not hear it & in the same room as a crate would be what difference. I have young puppies here & don't crate them. The puppy room is a safe space. Dogs need to run & stretch & play & only be confined in crates for illness or overnight if destructive or having bad toilet habits. It won't harm your dog to be crated that long but it won't make it happy. -
Buying New Puppy But Keeping Registration In Breeders Name
Christina replied to sophmadz's topic in General Dog Discussion
You need to phone your canine association & ask them who the legal owner would be, I am not sure but I think it would be the breeder. Your entire dog will mark territory, that is often the reason why people have their pet dogs desexed, he may also hump the legs of you & your family although not all entire males do this. if you just want a pet its best to get a dog entirely in your name & desex it. -
It depends what unwell actually means. You have no way of knowing if its a minor tummy upset or something more serious. Have you been given any more info ? Is puppy going to the vet ? Has your friend visited the place & seen how your puppy is raised before you committed to buy? Sometimes on tiny breeds the testicles can be more difficult to feel & may drop a week or 2 later than on some dogs. When you have your puppy desexed the vet will charge you more to find it. If it can be felt close by its a minor issue but if the vet has to find it its not such a small job. I bred a kitten once with an undescended testicle & the vet couldn't find it. A most unusual occurrence & it turned out the testicle hadn't actually developed. The kitten ended up with 13 stitches instead of none Despite my alarm the kitten was fine & not in any distress but it did cost me 4 times the normal charge & that was at a special breeder rate so in the event of anything like this you would be up for a huge bill. The breeder has been honest with you & it may be that they are just being cautious & its not a big deal but consider it all before you part with that amount of money. Difficult situation especially if no one has visited in person. Best of luck.

Buying New Puppy But Keeping Registration In Breeders Name
Christina replied to sophmadz's topic in General Dog Discussion
If you are not an experienced breeder its better not to do this & buy a puppy you will own completely. Matings can go wrong its not as simple as the bitch comes to you, dog does his job & that's it. The dogs can injure themselves, the bitch can get nasty, the timing & maybe a few matings can be inconvenient for you, your dog may start to hump & pee all over the place too. Terms of how many matings, how often your dog is used ect would have to be agreed in a written contract & also financial adjustments would need to be made in all fairness. Not a good idea really unless you know the breeder very well & understand entirely what you are in for. Best of luck with it but do think carefully. -
Phone your local office of fair trading. They will advise you of your rights & what you can do to get your money back. If useless which I doubt then maybe a lawyers letter may do the trick. Sometimes just saying you have contacted office of fair trading & quoting what they have told you may do the trick & get you your refund. Most unfortunate & upsetting for you. Good luck.

Check the puppies list on here & the Dogs Queensland site for registered breeders. When you find a puppy for sale arrange to visit the breeder. When a puppy buyer visits me I show them my Dogs SA registration, pedigrees & health tests. They meet all my dogs, even the old desexed dogs as well as pups & parents. They cuddle the pups & I show them the puppy room & garden, explain how the pups are raised & explain to them the puppy room is where the pups can run free in safety when I can't watch them around the house. Tell them their pups come with a written vet health check, vaccine, microchip, desexed, receipt, diet & care sheet & grooming sheet & ask if they have any questions. If you feel comfortable with the breeder & are happy with the way the dogs are raised & their environment then you can purchase your puppy or leave a deposit. If you are not happy with everything walk away no matter how cute that puppy is. Good luck with your new puppy & please post photos on here when you get him or her.

For the pet owners I don't think crates are needed at all & its awful if dogs are left crated for hours on end but for breeders they can be useful at certain times for short periods under some circumstances. Most of my crates here have stuff stored in them

Tracheal / Throat Collapse - Vet Recommendations
Christina replied to FURRYFRIENDS's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
You need a positive diagnosis diagnosis before you panic. A vet told me my dog had this when he was 11. Said it happens sometimes with old dogs, give him some benadryl. It stopped soon after & didn't recur. He is 13 now & has never had a problem since. Some kind of irritation I guess. Good luck. It may not be that at all. -
New Dog And Cat Laws In South Australia
Christina replied to Mrs Rusty Bucket's topic in In The News
And if they allow selling at 7 weeks (which is highly undesirable IMHO), it is highly unlikely that the kitten will be desexed before going to its new home. Vets down here don't like to do them too young .. the one who did mine likes them to be at least 12 weeks but prefers 14. So I don't see how that would help the unwanted kittens/feral cat problem in the least. (Rules for registered cat breeders are the same here ... minimum 12 weeks, microchipped, and must be desexed if not being sold to another registered breeder. Other issue is that vets cannot desex until kittens are a minimum of 1 kilo in weight. Kittens never reach a kilo by 7 weeks. -
New Dog And Cat Laws In South Australia
Christina replied to Mrs Rusty Bucket's topic in In The News
Some of it is good & some not good. As a small hobby cat & dog breeder I find the needs are different & dogs & cats do need seperate consideration. I was gobsmacked to see that they want to allow selling of kittens at 7 weeks members of cat councils here in SA are not allowed to sell until 12 weeks, its in our code of ethics. So the public who want their kitten now will go to back yard breeders & get that 7 week old kitten that basically does need to be with its mother. For those breeders whose cats & dogs live in cages permanently the minimum cage sizes are inadequate. I know it has exercise areas but how would anyone know how often they were in there. Impossible to know. I would not us to be like Victoria, which is ridiculous, but most of what I have read so far seems fairly reasonable. I don't know that it will ever stop unwanted litters, shonky breeders & cruelty & neglect though. -
I doubt at her age now she has started this that you can stop it. You may be able to stop it while you are with her but not when she is alone. You can make a seperate well fenced area for the wildlife in your care & keep foster kittens in a seperate room but with adult cats around the house & free ranging wildlife I don't think you have any chance of stopping it. A new home may be the way to go if you want to carry on with all your other animals. I don't think you can ever trust an animal that kills once it starts. My old Doberman years ago used to kill anything that moved no matter what I did & she was well walked & exercised. Great with people, children & other dogs but forget any other living creature.

I think diet is what your dog does well on so if your 9 year old is fit & healthy generally the diet is ok for him. I wouldn't feed raw pet meat to any dog but I think cooked is fine. Every person has their own opinion on what is the best diet including every manufacturer of commercial dog food. They all claim theirs is is the best, meets all nutritional needs etc. I think your pup will be fine on what you feed your older dog but to be sure its getting all it needs I would mix in a little puppy dry with the meat & a little calcium powder. Check calcium need amount on goggle & then work out how much is in what you feed. They have food charts info all over the net. Many dogs did survive to ripe all age when there was only one brand of commercial dog food & they were fed like family with an odd bone. Its all so technical & scientific now that people get confused & I doubt dogs are living any longer or are many healthier overall.

$59 & less for 2nd visit if its for the same problem.

Have you got any other animals ? cat or dog ? He may just be marking his spot. Of course check for UTI is the first step.
-
Sounds shocking & they had no right to bury the dog, unbelievable. I think there is always a risk of injury at these kind of places. Sometimes people tend to forget that no matter how well trained dogs are still animals & the unexpected can always occur.
-
I don't think it matters if they are co dependent. All my dogs hate being on their own or seperate from the others apart from the stud boy who mixes well with them all outside but pees on their beds & around the living areas inside so he has the computer room as his space & doesn't mark his territory in there & is happy with that. Its cold at night & I can't see any harm in sleeping them together. They will have to sort out who is boss, one of them has to be, so as long as you split them up if it gets too rough or can make them stop with vocal commands expect some scrapping, its natural. You will have to seperate for lead training but I would feed a few feet apart & watch & order each back to their own dish. I feed 5 adults without seperation & they know to only eat their own. Often had 2 pups similar in age & find they copy & learn from each other. I never seperated them at all, only from the adults when small & introduced under supervision. 2 pups won't kill each other & will quickly make friends. They will miss their litter mates being so young & be glad of each others company.

Apologies. I am trying to keep an eye on a deaf kitten playing around the room as I browse on here so not paying full attention. Yes definitely report to the RSPCA. The dog sounds in shocking condition & it must be distressing to see it like that. Hope things improve for it. Do come back & give us some feedback.
