  1. Probably anxiety or dominance issue. Does your flatmate like your dog, apart from the peeing part ? Solution is very simple. He needs to make sure he always shuts his door & if the dog keeps peeing in there he shouldn't find this simple act too difficult. No other way.
  2. I don't understand how you got a half hearted sample if there is absolutely no semen at all ? If there was no semen at all what did the vet test ? If your vet isn't very experienced as a breeders vet & doesn't do artificial insemenation then I would be visiting one who does. It doesn't have to be a specialist to get a semen sample but an experienced vet who is used to doing this is so much better.
  3. Short of giving the lizards a brain transplant there is not much you can do if you are not there. I would rather my dogs killed lizards than train them not to using shock collars or other nasty methods. A dish of water in the garden is nice but snakes like drinks of water too. I had to cut the chicken wire fence to rescue a stuck one yesterday. It had stressed & done a huge poo, was disgusting I think the dogs were after the poo not the lizard but they did back off when I yelled. I catch them in a bucket & put them outside but they always come back in. My dogs bark at them & chase until I tell them off & say leave but I think they are really scared of them as they never get too close. Little poodles are not very brave. No easy fix for your problem.
  4. Totally agree with the above. If there are no problem behaviour issues sometimes you just have to accept that an animal is just as it is & accept that & expect nothing more & let them be themselves. Sounds like you are expecting more & its not going to be forthcoming. To re home when there is nothing wrong with the dog seems unkind, he has already had one big upheaval in his life. Can't say I really understand as I can love any animal & feel they are all special in their own way. Some are just more needy & dependent on me than others. Maybe he is not needy enough for you ?
  5. You need to phone Dogs Queensland & ask if they are current members. They will tell you & the breeders will not know you have called & asked. A photo with a word or something on a card won't give you any information that is relevant.
  6. Phone the canine association in their state & ask if they are a registered breeder. It is called Dogs Queensland or Dogs New South Wales etc for whichever state its in. Here it is called Dogs SA. That will tell you if they are registered breeders of pedigree dogs. Purebred can mean the 2 parents are Pomeranians & do not have any pedigree. Registered breeder can mean registered with the council to breed dogs, any dogs. Being responsible breeders & the pup being what they say it is is can only be established by visiting them & meeting them & their dogs in their home environment. Its a bit late after placing deposit to be wondering. Your choices are to take the pup & hope you are not being ripped off. Send a friend or relative in that state to check it all out, if you can. Ask for deposit back by giving some excuse/lie, illness, losing your lease or some feasible reason, & hope they are nice about it. Lose your deposit & be thankful you may have had a lucky escape. Gumtree is no dodgier than any other site & genuine breeders do advertise there but you always run a risk buying without a personal visit from any advertisement anywhere. Best of luck with it all.
  7. I just wonder how he busted out at all ? Aren't they supposed to be in an airline approved secure cage with ties on ? Happy ending. Could have all ended very badly.
  8. You sound just like me :) Perfectly normal The only comments I get are that my dogs are spoiled which is funny when my now adult children who were spoiled too say it & some of my family affectionately calling me Dr Dolittle. Ignore those random thoughts. You are happy, your animals are happy & you don't have to justify yourself to anyone. I have sometimes noticed that those who make these kind of comments often put their pets very low on their list of priorities & have different views on how they should be cared for.
  9. A picture tells a thousand stories & it seems no one really knows what the right one is. People do often jump to the wrong conclusions. Does look bad though.
  10. Same here too. Roova I used to be a blackjack dealer. Maybe that's why I started doing it years ago.
  11. I have used Canex or Troy puppy syrup & the Troy for my kittens for about 20 years & never had any reaction of any kind from them. The one time I tried a kitten paste they frothed at the mouth & vomited so I always stick to the usual now.
  12. http://ysa-v2-katalyst-com-au.s3.amazonaws.com/production/2015/08/12/07/36/26/d6cc5ff9-5d7b-4706-a2d3-e4d24bdf5954/Dog%20and%20Cat%20System%20Visual%20%20Citizens%20Jury%202015.pdf Having read the above I am pleasantly suprised at how sensible it seems overall. There may be a few problems with implementing it all & I wish there was another body apart from RSPCA to oversee the breeders side but seems that they are the most suitable having the prosecution powers. However it is a worry when sometimes they do such a good job & then sometimes they don't prosecute when it appears obvious that they need to. However I don't understand the full legalities of it all, which is probably often a factor. The pre ownership course may be a bit of a waste of time depending on the views of who sets the course & its all a bit nanny state but maybe that is what is needed & it can't do any harm I guess. I strongly support the non sale of cats & dogs, except rescues, in pet shops & do believe it contributes to both impulse buying & puppy farm suppliers however I wonder can they get around fair trading laws to implement this ? There will be huge objections from the industry. I was worried that we would end up a state with only large licensed business, government & council approved puppy & kitten farms that obeyed the regulations & dog breeding would become a profit based business as opposed to a love your breed, want to breed well & promote passion, which is how it is for many small breeders. There is no way everyone will agree on what is best & a proportion of people will always neglect, discard or abuse animals but so far it looks ok. 10,000 euthanised cats & dogs a year is heartbreaking, irresponsible & probably not warranted in many cases. No wonder the staff get traumatised. I hope it all works out well.
  13. Nutcase. I can only really say that was a shit day for the police officer.
  14. Its easy to tell when they are totally deaf its when they are gradually losing it that its hard. My rescue kitten is totally deaf & I picked that up instantly but it took a while longer with my 13 year old dog & I now suspect my 10 year is losing some hearing too. The older dog was not coming in at night after I let him out for the last piddle. It was only when I shined the torch to find him that he realised I wanted him in. He cant hear me call from far away however he did jump when I clapped my hands behind him so I know its starting to fade. The younger girl is a deep sleeper so that threw me out a little at first however when I woke her a few times she was startled & I have noticed that she doesn't always obey as quickly or respond to my voice as much. She has growled a couple of times when I have gone to move her her off my chair when she was in that half awake, half asleep phase, which is new, so now I clap or bang the chair so she is wide awake & tell her to move which is working ok. Its a gradual process & the early stages are easy to miss, same as in people really.
  15. Too many changes too quickly. New home, new people, leaving mum & litter mates & 2 new foods. Vets want you to buy what they sell. Mix some of his original food in with the new. I feed pups some meat & I leave dry down all the time & let puppies free feed. Unless you have a breed prone to overeating & getting fat most growing pups won't over eat & soon run it off. Little tummies tend to need little more often. I would not use any treats at present.
  16. People have massive interpretations of top quality, show quality & similar descriptions. I once saw an ad for a toy poodle pup described as show quality & the pup was phantom marked, unbelievable. I agree that forums are not the best place to discuss this but if you have no idea I suppose you thought it a good place to ask. If you have sound evidence & reports from your vet & cannot get anywhere with the breeder the office of fair trading, consumer affairs, is the place to go for advice on putting in to the small claims court to get your money back. Sometimes they may order you to return the puppy if the breeder wants this.
  17. After about 20 years of keeping a multiple dog household, usually around 5 dogs, I find the above to be very accurate. When I go out I never leave a new dog or puppy alone with other adult dogs for about the first 3 months even if they seem to get along well.
  18. Round Up is safe although I still use it little & sparingly. There is a customer enquiry phone number listed on it & I rang them for a chat before I used it. I think there is a phone number or email or something to contact listed on most products so I would advise contacting the manufacturer before using anything.
  19. Like all your names except Hektor. Diesel is fine but very common. I also like Sirius ( the dog star ), which is similar sounding to Cyrus. You will know when you see your baby which mane suits.
  20. Sounds like a combination of nerves & not knowing where or how she is supposed to go, given her previous lifestyle. If she has no bedding in her crate the cold could add to the problem, even people pee more when they are cold. I wouldn't restrict water for an animal at all & doubt it makes much difference as she will only drink what she needs anyway. I would also try her crate inside a large puppy pen with a piece of fake grass, puppy pad or something at the opposite side to her bed so at least she has another option of somewhere to go. Re soiling her coat you could try baby wipes but if its a lot I would cut her short for now. Maybe its just all a matter of time for her to settle down, some take longer than others.
  21. For a normal healthy dog with no special problems or needs being alone overnight should not be a problem. The dog will be asleep a large part of the time & so would you be if you were there too.
  22. Yes & if I move to sit elsewhere they all move with me
  23. Such a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to her family, its something many of us could do seeing a dog on the highway. Yes I live nearby & got several phone calls from panic striken friends & phoned my dog breeder friend who lives close too.
  24. Sounds like herpes virus, which is contagious to other cats. Has your vet done any swabs or bloods tests ?
