  1. I don't understand why they have issued with notices to comply ? Comply with what ? Something that will allow them to keep more dogs ? Or get some of them back ? Just reading this makes me feel sick. These people need prosecuting & banned from keeping any animals for life. There is no excuse on earth for doing this. Even a half wit would have to know how wrong & cruel this is.
  2. My sisters 25 kilo cutie mutt needs this operation. Their vet quoted $2000. Is that about average for this kind of thing ?
  3. One problem is that if you find out its not your dogs barking how do you let the pain in the butt cowards know that you are certain its not yours & why ? I hate people who complain anonymously. I think they should have the guts to approach in a civilised manner & try to resolve any problem.
  4. best laugh I have had all week thank you.
  5. He is 6 months old so is naturally energetic. How tired do you want him to be ? How much do you expect him to sit still or sleep ? Pups are variable the same as human babies are. Some short nap all day & others are lively. He sounds a fantastic & highly intelligent little guy. Enjoy it while you can I think as I glance at my grey 11 year old napping in his bed & we only got up an hour ago :)
  6. Very difficult without video evidence. Makes you want to kick them so they know what it feels like How upsetting . Doubt there is much you can do but ask.
  7. Funny you should mention dogs watching us. Tonight while having dinner & being watched intently as every forkful went into my mouth by 5 dogs I wondered how they would feel if I sat on the floor in the morning & gazed intently at their mouths as they ate  Dogs are clever.
  8. May be a bit obvious but if you have a vaccination certificate check on there if she is desexed. It may have the desexed symbol & if it doesn't show up, as they may not have added that detail, why not just phone the vet that was being used & explain the situation & ask if they desexed this dog. They would have it on record on their computer.
  9. Maybe its the Advocate that has triggered it. Don't use any flea chemicals or washes on him unless he has fleas. Its all strong stuff & doesn't suit every dog. One time here on letting a kitten out of its cage that had flown here to us I got huge welts all over me instantly & my son had an asthma attack. Kitten had been sprayed with Frontline before being put in cage. Otherwise as kelpiecuddles said. One thing at a time. May be as simple as a carpet freshener, what you clean your floors in or the washing powder his bedding is washed in. Good luck. Horrible for the puppy.
  10. I think that they get heaps of free calenders from the companies they deal with. She sounds one in a million & a lovely person. I would give something non animal related for herself. Flowers, chocolates ( resist them ) & a nice bottle of something to drink. Can you make a gift basket up yourself ?
  11. Be worried if they start clucking  & best lay off the eggs for a while. Sorry couldn't resist :) The worst scenario is that they may get a bit constipated so try & check none strain too much or can't go tomorrow. Easy to fix if it happens.
  12. The fact is it is not illegal to breed any dogs together, charge what you like & papers, registered a breeder can mean anything. If they have bred them they are a breeder. Registered can mean the dogs are registered with the council & papers can mean vaccination, care & sales papers. People don't know the difference & there is little support, public knowledge or marketing to let them know. Someone I know heard a pet shop telling an elderly couple that the lab cross puppy would not grow to be a big dog at all Stepped in & got abused by the staff but the elderly couple did walk out minus a puppy. There is not much to be done about it all. Pet shop sales will be here forever & their suppliers. They make the government too much money for it to be stopped.
  13. Now that would be a good law to have in place. All salons to be in open view I am recommending you :)
  14. Probably are rules but what goes on behind closed doors is another story. Probably scared of you putting in a work cover claim re your back. Its better not to try & catch a falling dog unless its quite small & even then it can end worse. More chance of a good landing if the dog has aimed for it than a blocked one. Tied up is not good unless it has to be used for restraint purposes, as in grooming a really difficult dog. Too much potential for accidents. If this is to be your continued job you are going to see lots of things that bother you. Self employed is the way to go but you do learn various styling & handling tricks & techniques from working with others initially. Some you learn that are brilliant & others you would never use & want to smack the person.
  15. Can't comment on original post as full details not known however I can comment on those pound stats. Absolutely disgusting The dog numbers are bad enough but the cat numbers are horrendous. They can't even be trying & I wonder just how much money do they receive to run this execution centre ? They need a new marketing manager, a facelift & a new attitude.
  16. I can't stop thinking how many unwanted & unloved dogs could be helped with all that money. Mad idea & some people have more money than sense but its here now so there will be takers. It would creep me out mentally some how having my dead dog cloned.
  17. That they can rip a curtain in half in a perfect line across the middle Came home to find one of the 4 lounge curtains with the bottom half, about 3 feet of it ripped off completely. How clever is that
  18. Oh dear. You can't just use an opinion from a Google search & believe it. You need to do some serious research about this & get as much background on your lines as you can. Unfortunately this is a thing it is hard to get reliable background info on a lot of the time. Its a nightmare problem in small breeds & if every breeder who had a dog with a slight, even grade 1 patella stopped breeding from it, or stopped if puppies were produced who have this problem we would be a long way towards eliminating it to a more acceptable degree. Yes it can be caused by injury & will usually be slight but when an 8 week old pup or a fairly young dog has grade 3 & 4 one has to look at the genetics. A dog that is 5 years old & recently develops this condition is likely to have had an accident that may have even have gone unnoticed. Just because something cannot be tested for it does not mean it is not genetic.
  19. They love their dog obviously & had treatment for the problem. They spent $5000 & have not asked for it back, only the cost of the dog. So why take back a dog that was cared for & had the medical help (successfully) it needed because they didn't go to the vet you wanted ? The vet they went to must have been qualified & as the dog is theirs now it is their choice ultimately. They haven't even asked for the vet fees to be refunded only a perfectly reasonable request for purchase price. Which I would be pleased to refund & would be grateful the dog had a good & caring home.
  20. So much. Too much to list however after reading an article about why a mother doesn't want a dog for her child who keeps asking I realised I have learned that the joy & pleasure of having them ( or any pet ) is more important than having a perfect house with no marks on the doors, a perfect garden etc, being a perfectionist & impressing people. Responsibility, kindness & caring comes easy to me but it is a thing that children need to be taught & having a dog is ideal if lifestyle permits.
  21. I would also refund the cost of the puppy. Its a fair thing to do. They love their dog so I would leave it at that. Get/give a receipt. If it doesn't end there then look at dealing with it but for now a refund is the way to go.
  22. Very true I totally agree, but what I don't get is when professionals require a dog to bite and cause some damage in a working role, why don't they use just "any dog" on the basis that they all have teeth and they can all functionally bite? Why do they use specific breeds and character types when the ability to bite is said to be not breed and character specific? Because some breeds are more suitable for this type of training. Also they do not actually bite. They use their teeth but release on command. Because some breeds would not be the right build for the purpose too. Police work for example requires a solid built dog that can move fast. A Chihuahua would be a useless.
  23. Not sure if its the dogs or the weather. Mine are all over some years & not others. This year I had one come in 3 months early & she jumped over a 4 foot room divider ( toy poodle with great legs ) at the end of the 4th week & tied with the boy. No pups. Yes it is completely blocked in now. Couldn't believe it. Another came in 6 weeks early & mated with the young boy in the first few days when it wasn't even noticeable. No previous sign of heat or swelling or indication by usual signs. The old boy who is always bang on the mark in knowing didn't even react. Then a few days later it became obvious she was in. 5 weeks now & flat as a pancake, thankfully as I didn't want her mated this time around. Yes they are weird this year.
  24. In the past I have lost 1 Great Dane to lymphatic cancer 2 Siamese cats. Half sisters mammary cancer for one & throat cancer for the other. 1 Doberman to mammary cancer. No simple way to predict it. Maybe with a completely different breed you may not worry so much. As you can see from my dogs it is easy to adjust to breeds. I also had 2 Chihuahuas for 13 & 16 years & have had Toy Poodles for the last 22 years. I love all dogs. its a hard time for you worrying so much about your baby.
