  1. Not much I guess. A lot have remarked that my dogs are very spoiled but not sure if that is judging or not as I merely smile & say I know, aren't they gorgeous :) There are some moronic & harsh people in the world.
  2. So why have no charges been laid ? There is plenty of concrete proof & evidence that the dog was not only abused but neglected as well. How do they know there is no lasting mental damage ? Whose good hands is the dog in now ? The matter being made public & his workplace knowing & imposing what they did will let everyone know what a bastard he is & is probably more severe than what a court would do but in principle this should go to court. Sounds cynical but I guess if he were poor or ethnic it would.
  3. Can only think that it is easier for them to sit on their arses in fantasy land on facebook than cope with the reality of the real world. That would mean actually getting off the computer, moving & fixing fences & dealing with the real issue Both owners & dog are lost causes really. Sad.
  4. As persephone has said. Feed him a normal amount now. There is nothing left over for him to poo. Hopefully he will be fine now & if he is back to usual diet in a day or so. Pups need lots of food, they are growing so fast.
  5. When we can't look after them properly. That's nothing to do with age. There isn't an age. Some people are hopeless & can't cope in their 20's & others can cope fine & look after multiple dogs in their 60's, as I do. Obviously I know that now I haven't the physical strength to cope with big dogs as much as I like them. Joint problems have to be considered however I manage to brush mine most days & bath & clip fortnightly I just pace myself sensibly. Its all manageable. Its a state of mind too. Some people have no patience for pups & dogs when they are young & others have it forever. To me 60's isn't old. My mother is 90 & going so well. Sharp as anything, does her daily crossword & keeps up with world affairs. Goes out a lot & holidays in Europe with my sister. She says she is too old for a dog now & at her age that's fair enough. Back & knees bother her but that's about it. Anyone can drop dead at any time if the wrong thing happens so I guess if you are very old like 80's it may not be the best idea if family aren't willing to help but if they are & you can manage well & have the right pet that's suitable for your capabilities I can't see a problem.
  6. I have bred poodles for about 18 years & have never had any with digestive issues. My adults & pups always eat anything & everything & are not fussy & don't get stomach problems. They are sensitive dogs though but not what I would call anxious generally. Agree with some others that you need to knock off any chemicals & forget feeding raw meat, cook any meat, fish or chicken properly. Raw can cause worms as well as fleas causing them. You can wash your dogs weekly in Martha Gardners Wool Wash diluted, half a capful in a litre of water used as a shampoo. It is kinder than flea washes & does the trick although you need to check over & use a nit comb if its a heavy infestation. Rinse off very well. Use a wormer that just kills worms & doesn't do a million other things. Stick to one food for now, maybe a complete food thats grain free. Not sure on dogs variety but my cats thrive on the VIP grain free. They do it for dogs too. Get some slippery elm tablets from the chemist & open the capsule & sprinkle it on their food daily along with some Protexin which is a dairy free probiotic which you can buy at fodder stores. I would be keeping it simple & natural & change vets. Good luck.
  7. " If I bought another other dog how do I know that they wont have some other problem or the same one, as I have read that 20 to 25% of small dogs can be born with this condition. Silkies can also have other inherited problems as well, which I feel are worse than what my dog has. Her problem is only cosmetic as far as I am concerned which prevented me showing her. She did not have any discomfort from the extra tearing on one side of her face and certainly did not get any infections as a result of the issue. I just did not like the look of a stained face, which I read, could have been washed daily, if necessary, to improve the situation. I have seen many white coated dogs like maltese and some poodles which have a fair bit of tear staining, maybe they have the same problem, does that mean that those people should not breed from them? Probably the same percent of small dogs have patella issues which show up when they are young & it pisses me off big time that some still breed from them. Everyone doing it doesn't make it right. Yes some dogs do get tear staining but many have seemingly normal tear ducts. They are not born without them & needing operations that are in the $1000's. I don't know why you are asking questions as it seems you have already made up your mind what you are going to do. You could buy another dog with this problem. Some breeders have to try with several dogs & end up buying & desexing or returning a few pups until they get it right. The grandfather will have mated many bitches & sometimes its a combination of the dam & sires lines. Mated to a different dam the problem may not be carried. Breeders may not know or may not care to disclose however you can't control others actions only your own when you decide to breed or not to breed from a particular dog.
  8. Any dog with a congenital problem should not be bred from IMO. Its not exactly a small, non serious thing either. The idea of breeding is to breed the best & healthiest not with dogs that carry known problems. Desex & keep her as a pet & start again with another line if you want to breed.
  9. Have to say only if you love them :) I have had between 4 & 8 dogs for the last 19 years although the 8 was only short term so with breeding some ( not all ) & puppies around guess I just love them & manage them all fine. Yes its a bit of organising or messing about at times but it depends what suits you, your lifestyle & your personality.
  10. I never ultrasound either or palpitate early on. Unless you have a breed that is likely to need a ceasarian I can't see the point. By about 6 weeks & sometimes sooner you can usually feel the shape & movement of puppies with just the gentlest touch & see them kicking about by then. There are obvious signs like your dog gets hungrier, fatter. Its a bit trickier if there is only one but ultrasounds can be wrong too.
  11. You put it on paper Maybe they didn't like the news articles  My little piggys eat anything anywhere. All of them.
  12. I would contact the canine association in your state re your concerns & ask their advice about this colour breeding & associated problems with the breeder & deposit. If there is nothing you can do forget your attachment to this puppy & lose the $250. It is going to cost you so much more long term. Good luck.
  13. Gorgeous photos :) That is how every dog should be kept warm.
  14. I used Angel Eyes when I had a white boy with bad staining. Did the usual & had his ducts flushed at the vets, uselessly. Angel Eyes is a powder that is mixed into their food daily to begin with & then tapering off. Much safer than putting stuff in & around the eyes.I found it excellent & saw results in a week. Its freely available all over the place now but was new when I used it a few years ago. Google for stockist. Well worth the money. It works.
  15. That's what I was thinking too. Mine are sometimes in my bed & sometimes where ever they want or where I put them depending on the weather. No problems with them they are good & obedient. Problem is that people assume he is the expert so they take notice. Quite scary sometimes.
  16. When I first came to Australia I went in the local butchers & saw Kangaroo Mince & it was so cheap so I asked for a kilo to try it in shepherds pie. There was the butcher & his young apprentice worked there. The apprentice served me. The children loved it but me being a bit squeamish didn't try it. A few days later I went again & asked the butcher for another kilo. He asked me for something like 3 times the price of the previous kilo. I said its the first time we tried kangaroooo & my children loved it but why has it gone up so much ? He called the appentice & asked him what he had served me. The pet meat he said The butcher asked were my children hopping around the garden. I also use Derri Sal the cows udder cream for my psoriasis. The dogs slicker on my hair. Diamond Shine horse spray on my hair too. Once I washed someones young flea ridden pups in diluted Martha Garners Wool Wash. It killed the fleas & made the pups coats lovely & fluffy so I washed my own hair in it. My blonde afro that was about 3 times the volume of my already thick hair was a bit of a suprise.
  17. As above. It really is all about making money $$$$ & making people believe they are not capable & they need an expert for just about every aspect of life. This leads to a nation of people who have no confidence, can't think for themselves & need direction & laws & rules for just about everything. Yes we will always have idiots, morons, people who have tunnel vision & people with a superiority complex who know the right way about everything. Dogs are living animals not machines. They can't talk & we can make educated guesses, research, scientifically study & so on but sometimes we get things so wrong. I think some expect nothing of them & some expect too much. As long as the dog is happy, healthy, under control, obeying its owner on the basics & not attacking people its not rocket science to achieve that much. More a matter of common sense, observation, firmness & kindness.
  18. I wouldn't be overly worried. Vets & the building & smells often make the mildest animals behave strangely. Sometimes the most friendly dogs who are unshakeable go to jelly or behave badly the minute they walk in the door. Given that your dog was not handled in a sensible way & that you did ask for a minute & was ignored I would guess that your dog picked up on your discomfort. Add that to the general smell of all the other animals that were or had been in there & she would have been feeling a bit off. You are probably more worried as she is such a big dog. They can go through phases they are not machines. I wouldn't class her as a problem/out of control dog at present or anticipate greatly that this will happen based on your post.
  19. Haven't been in this situation but if I was I would either make sure I was far enough away for the dog not to get to me or tell the receptionist I would wait outside.
  20. If she can't or won't hold on this would be awful for her having to lie in it all night. Some would just do it & sit there in it distressed. I have used the dog toilets I made with a piece of fake grass put on top of an empty plastic storage lid quite successfully for some of my toy dogs & puppies. The other thing I have found with some that won't hold on all night is that they always do if they sleep in my bed. My old boy was bad for peeing on the floor before I got up but in my bed he sleeps all night & always holds on until I put him out.
  21. No answer to op but am curious as to how the above would be relevant to parvo ? PS Hope your puppy is ok now & has responded well to treatment.
  22. & from my perspective I would not want anyone nursing me, my children or anyone or performing any medical procedures if they thought it was ok to do this with an animal. Obviously no respect or sensitivity for any living thing. I wouldn't leave them alone or trust them with a budgie.
  23. No you weren't clear in your 1st post. I read it & went  Nice idea. Easier to take her to visit a dog show though & speak to owners after they have come out of the ring.
  24. How upsetting. Stress & a new environment would not cause a sad, lethargic puppy with blood in the stools. A healthy puppy raised in a good way would be exploring your home, want lots of cuddles & be excited about it all even if a little nervous or cautious for a very short hour or so. I would go to another vet today. The small amount for a consult would be worth it. Carry your puppy in just in case it has anything the other dogs could catch. Take a poo sample with you to show the vet in a small, clean container or plastic bag. Do this today & report back to the shop if it is anything serious & see what happens from there. Hope it is nothing too bad. Let us know how your puppy is.
  25. Some people are so stupid I am amazed that they even manage to keep themselves alive let alone their dogs. This person sounds like one of them. Can only say I think you are a very patient person, you must have wanted to decapitate her to see if there was any brain inside the head  her poor dogs
