Knowing absolutely nothing about horse showing are those (halters?) special Arabian ones? Or just show horses in general? They're very pretty. They're so fine - you wouldn't want one of them to shy and take off, they don't look like they would do an awful lot. Gorgeous photos of some gorgeous horses.

Cleanrun.com Has Free Shipping On Lots Of Toys...
j replied to megan_'s topic in General Dog Discussion
I got an email on the 25th saying my order had been delayed as one item I ordered was out of stock, then another one on the 26th saying it had been shipped. Following the tracking email, it has been accepted at some postal centre or other in MA (is that Minnesota?) Hope it gets here soon. I think there will be lots of Secret Santas on the receiving end of the clean run free shipping reading back through this thread  -

http://www.news.com.au/national/dog-faces-death-for-defending-master-after-road-rage-incident/story-fndo4eg9-1226503739600 Dog faces death for defending master after road rage incident by: Kate Higgins From: News Limited Network October 26, 2012 11:16AM Max is now facing death row after he was seized following an incident where he attacked a man arguing with his owner. A DOG defending his master during an alleged road rage incident could be put down. Max, a three-year-old bullmastiff cross bull terrier, is on death row after an attack that landed one man in hospital, The Townsville Bulletin reports. Max's owner Michael O'Shea claims the attack occurred after a road rage incident but the victim said it was just an unfortunate misunderstanding. What is clear is that Max attacked a man in his 40s who approached Mr O'Shea, and his friend Lee Wilmot on a Townsville street after an earlier incident at an intersection. The victim, who did not want to be named, left his vehicle and approached the pair where a short conversation ensued before Max, who is classed as a dangerous dog by the council, leapt through a window of the car and attacked the man. Mr Wilmot, said the dog was usually passive. "He was protecting his master, it's what any dog would do." The Townsville City Council yesterday seized Max, who will be held while council officers conduct a full investigation into the incident. It's not as if he just called the dog and it followed him along - he was carrying it away. Maybe an early intervention like this will be a good thing for this boy When Jamie bulger was grabbed by those two young boys, they showed that footage all over the world in an attempt to identify the boys. I didn't hear anyone complaining about that

Sheba. 1978-1992. First dog I trained. My sister brought her home from the trash and treasure, free, with a can of puppy food! "we're not having a dog!" insisted my parents. But I wasn't allowed to take her with me when I moved out. Sheba and Michelin (1985-?). Unfortunately, I had to rehome Mich. We lived on a property and he escaped one night and killed some sheep. He became a builders workmate and travelled to work sites with him every day Mich - 8mths old, 40kgs

I think vets probably need a little educating with regards to talking to owners as well. My brothers dog is overweight - you can't feel his ribs at all, but apparently the vet thinks he is just right. His dog is pretty much the same size as mine, but a good 5-6kgs heavier (Mine is a maltese x cavalier, theirs is a maltese/shih tzu) But because the vet has said he's okay, they don't want to hear what I have to say

Serious Car Accident Involving Racing Greys And Trainers
j replied to OSoSwift's topic in In The News
A serious question, not trying to stir up trouble. Is it usual to transport this many dogs at once? -
You'll need to click on the link to see the actual photo of the unknown dog show winner (Unidentified bulldog and two men). I'm sure they'd love to hear from you if you do actually know any of the people or the dog. http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/a-real-blast-from-the-photographic-past-20121007-27793.html A photo from a past Queanbeyan exhibition shows a dog show winner. The men (and dog) in the pictures have not as yet been identified. Photo courtesy of Queanbeyan Museum This column has a shameless policy of reprinting gratuitously lovely or quaint or intriguing pictures (especially if they have dogs in them) irrespective of any relevance they might have to anything. These two old black-and-white pictures were part of a show of photographs of past Queanbeyan projected on to a big screen inside that city's Royal Hotel at a function a few days ago after the opening of the city's Honour Walk. The photograph of the shooters with their trophy (probably for their shooting but conceivably for their moustaches) was shown first with the caption ''Unknown Champions'' (because, Gillian Kelly, the curator of Queanbeyan's museum, explains, we don't have the foggiest idea who they are or when they were photographed). Then came the picture of the dog with the witty caption ''Another Unknown Champion.'' If either photograph rings any bells, do please tell us. Another photo shows a riflemen, date and names unknown. It's said we become more and more like our dogs and Kelly draws our attention to the eerie resemblances (in the faces and the physiques) of the three figures, one dog and two chaps, in the mystery snap. V.i.p. Natures Goodness Grainfree Dryfood
j replied to Frenchfry's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I bought one of the small bags for my dog, who can be very picky with dry foods and he loves it. On that basis only, I'm prepared to buy a bigger bag and see how he goes on it. -
Some great stories and pictures here, and even a story on one from ARF and Farmdogz. Too many to copy and paste each one, but some lovely photos. I have pasted the story on Rusty below, but the link will take you to all the stories. https://open.abc.net.au/projects/working-dogs-07kq9eh/contributions Rusty is loving life – Thanks to the collaborative efforts of two animal rescue groups – ACT Rescue and Foster in Canberra and Farmdogz Rescue Inc – Melbourne. Rusty found himself in a pound in Canberra. A failed worker? Perhaps. An unwanted pet? Perhaps. Noone will ever truly know his background. He was painfully thin and his coat as coarse as a steel wool pad. He was savagely attacked and injured by a fellow pound inmate. Veterinary treatment was sought for Rusty and the long search for someone to take him on and spare him the fate of all unwanted pound dogs began. Countless hours of work goes into finding foster carers and adoptive homes for dogs like Rusty. The team at Farmdogz Rescue in Melbourne soon sourced an available carer, while ACT Rescue arranged a carer to collect Rusty from the pound and hold him in care until he could be vetworked and loaded on transport to Melbourne. Now in foster care, Rusty has discovered his new job. Best friend and companion to Matilda, Rusty never leaves her side. His wounds have healed and the scars are fading. Rusty's coat is improving and by the look of his cheeky grin, he is glad he is a pound survivor.

For those that use the sticky rollers, they leave a residue on your clothes/couches etc which then attracts the hair, bit of an oxymoron really

Put Rubber gloves and rub your hand over the couch.

The video says that the fence was cut. What else should they do? Electrify the fences? They have CCTV of the shelter. There is no mention of whether there is an intruder alarm on the premises, but even if there was, it would likely only be on the admin buildings, as they are generally movement activated, and there would be false alarms all the time when the animals move around. The noise of the siren would also be extremely distressing to the animals. ETA - I am responding to all the mentions of poor security, not just the two that I have quoted - I was too lazy to go back and find them all

Beautiful photo, obviously a well loved dog.

And so they should. Lovely photo of Bob and his wife on the below link. http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/dpp-to-appeal-knight-shooters-sentence-20120920-269to.html The Director of Public Prosecutions says it will appeal against the sentence imposed on a man convicted of the manslaughter of Canberra truckie Bob Knight. Sydney man Mahmoud Mariam was in August sentenced to at least five years and nine months in jail after the truck driver was killed with a stray bullet. Justice Megan Latham said Mariam was engaged in a ‘‘mindless display of violence’’ in a carpark gunfight when Mr Knight drove past at Milperra, in Sydney’s southwest, in 2009. Mariam was sentenced to a maximum of seven years and nine months, with the judge noting he had ‘‘at no stage expressed the slightest remorse for the death of Mr Knight’’. Mr Knight, 66, was driving along Milperra Road when he was hit in the head by a stray bullet. Mariam was initially charged with murder along with two other men. After a three-month trial, all three were cleared of murder, but Mariam was found guilty of manslaughter and affray. NSW Attorney-General Greg Smith said he was pleased the DPP would appeal the sentence. ‘‘It’s one of those decisions that really didn’t instil the public with confidence, so I think it’s worth a look at,’’ he told the Macquarie Network yesterday. I didn't read it as she was alone in the factory - they said a number of people were evacuated, and she was found under a dressing table on the second search. I read it as she was at work with her owner

Photos and video on below link as well http://www.canberratimes.com.au/environment/animals/wheres-his-saddle-great-danes-dog-legs-turn-heads-20120914-25vt3.html Meet Zeus, a god among dogs. Standing on his hind legs, the humongous hound stretches to an incredible 2.23 metres, more the size of a donkey than your average Great Dane. Three-year-old Great Dane Zeus officially the tallest dog in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. And now the three-year-old from Michigan in the United States has been officially recognised as the tallest living dog of all time in the latest Guinness Book of World Records. Zeus, named after the Greek god, weighs 70.3 kilograms and eats about 12 cups of food a day, or one entire 13-kilogram bag of food. He towers over his owner Denise Doorlag, who says she is regularly stopped in the street when she takes him out for a walk. "The most common thing people ask is: 'Is that a dog or a horse?' and 'Where's his saddle?'," Ms Doorlag said. "The only downside is that everything costs more, the food, medicines, transport. We had to get a van to be able to transport him. Oh, and if he steps on your foot he leaves bruises." Zeus measures 1.12 metres from paw to withers, the point between the shoulder blades at which the official height of a four-legged mammal is judged for the Guinness record. He breaks the record of Giant George, another Great Dane who is an inch — 2.5 centimetres — shorter. Among other record-holders recognised in the 57th version of best-selling reference book is 86-year-old Johanna Quaas, a retired PE teacher from Leipzig, Germany, who has been named the world's oldest gymnast. Egyptian-born Moustafa Ismail has been recognised for having the largest biceps and triceps, with a circumference of 64.7 centimetres. The title of the world's shortest woman goes to 18-year-old Joyti Amge, from the central Indian city of Nagpur, who stands at just 62.8 centimetres tall. Nice looking fellow, but that photo looks like he has been cut out of another picture and plonked in the middle of that yard? Or just badly photoshopped in general?

Surely 17kg is still huge for a Dachs?
