Huski, What I meant was that when feeding dry food use premium quality. I don't mean however, that only dry food be fed. We feed our dogs a combination of dry food and a 'raw meaty bones' mix.

I agree that only premium quality dry food should be fed to any GSD or any dog for that matter. Our pups get 75% dry 25% wet food same as the mature dogs. they all get whole raw carrots every day. Young pups should be getting beef brisket bones for teething & lamb flaps maybe twice a week only (because of fat content). A pup that age should be putting on a kilo a week. Feed your pup everything, the one thing you don't want is a fussy eater. 10 week old pup should be abt 10 kgs. Pups that age we feed 3 rather than 2 meals, but the meals are smaller.

Some time back (a year or 2) we had a GSD that had a major allergy problem. Our vet referred us on to a skin specialist, who ran a series of tests that were somewhat inconclusive and left us more than $1,000 out of pocket. We changed her diet, there were some improvements in her condition,went back to the specialist & the recommendation was more tests with no guaranteed positive results for the dog at an estimated cost of several thousand dollars. We decided to go back to our vet. He suggested monthly cortisone injections. He advised that there would be a shortened lifespan of maybe 10% but the dog would have a much better quality of life. Well, we decided to take that course of action & have not regretted the decision. The coat grew back to a quality coat, the dog ate the same diet as our other dogs & is still active & alert. $35 a month for injections. The diet for our dogs is a home devised variation of the Raw Meaty Bones philosophy.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Nothing. The pup is testing u. If he wins, you are his/her's. If u win he/she is yours. Simple.

If they are chrome plated then you'll find that the chrome is flaking. Time to get a new chain if you don't want to leave marks on a white dog

Dogs & pups ears should be cleaned regularly. I usually use metho diluted with some warm water & cotton balls & buds. If your pup has smelly ears don't delay a trip to the vet who will probably supply you with Canaural. We have one GSD who has a recurring ear problem. If you use Frontline, a drop in each ear when using it on the dog can help in the fight against mites.

Our dogs are fed whole raw carrots in the evening after their regular meal which includes grated or cooked vegetables. They help themselves to fruit off the trees.
