  1. Raz it's for your own good. I've had students like you; not only do they want you to spoon feed them but want you to chew it as well. :p It looks like I will get the bread next time Raz is cooking. :D :D Anyway Raz/Poodle I have to go to work, a truck load of work just turned up, I will stick my nose in later.Be kind to each other. Seeing you're so anti-vets (think you used the words pet hate?), why do you try to get their business? To make money perhaps? eta: and do you offer vets a discount?! What about your other clients? Surely that's not very fair to them!! So are you overcharging everyone else? Or undercharging vets? To whom was that comment directed at? Poodle? Nicestman77? Hope it's not me. I love vets it's just the mark up of medications that I dont like

  3. Or Two Chai as someone on here once wrote. You're good value, Man. Poodie back to my question - what brand of eye ointment? I want to see if my vet has as high a mark up. Raz it's in the thread. Read it again it makes good reading. I might use edited parts of it to do a thesis for a PhD
  4. He's into the repair/sale of clippers and other grooming equipment, from what I see. I am having an identity crissis here. I've been a woman, a baker, a dog groomer, unable to afford my vet bills Then maybe you need to get some help? . "Human Clippers -vs- Dog Clippers" thread Or does re-reading your own post help to remind you? Read the first page of this post "When I informed her that the cost price of the medication was around $20 she was not happy. I have also worked in an equipment service industry and it was the practice to have a service charge and the parts cost was rounded up to the nearest dollar." Does this remind you? What has this got to do with this post??? You said you are having an identity crisis. I think erny was just trying help you remember who you said you were? No problem with that Penski but it is amusing to view this thread and see the conclusions people draw from little or NO information. It is also disappointing that many, not all, attack the person rather that the post topic. Every person that has put a case against Vet fees has been attacked personally. Read the posts re Mum and Emma, she has been attacked for working in Law firm. What has this got to do with post? What does the occupation of the Nicestman got to do with vet fees?

  8. Yeah I was hoping to get cheap horse anabolics from Russia and flog them off to my body building mates for a 400% narkup I have worked it out, he/she runs a gym that is over top a bakehouse, ha! raz we both will right, will you pick-up the bread for me, on your way home from collecting you know what. I run a bakehouse and use the heat from the ovens to cage dry the grooming salon I run next door. At night I dispense drugs at the local gym. Long hours but my accounts are just in the black

  10. Erny you can never be sure who you are related to
  11. So not 10% like you suggest vets use. I see. Puggy was spot on. So what's the product? I like to support Australian companies and I'll keep an eye out. I give advice to clients for free and only profit on the sale of goods. Clients can shop around and I buy if they choose it is open pricing. I don't supply the goods and hit them with $300 for freight. I only charge the actual freight cost and not the cost of booking and packaging.
  12. Yeah? That's cool. What's your markup? Mark up varies depending on the market and the product. Would be between 5% to 25%
  13. Well I for one wouldnt buy your products. I support Australian companies where ever possible. Raz the joke might be on you. You probably have purchased a product supplied by me.
  14. Well I for one wouldnt buy your products. I support Australian companies where ever possible. Again you jump to conclusions without knowing the facts. The product I was buying was from an Australian distributor and manufactured overseas. I ended up going to another supplier overseas. The products we sell are mainly to businesses and I am sure they are gratefull we have put downward pressure in the market.
  15. One of the more logical replies and I am glad you put ? against she. I have been labeled a dog groomer, a woman and a few other names. I am a male and not a dog groomer and the rest are subjective judgments. I take your point about the ability to mark up and it is up to those that see it as an injustice to make others aware. How would we know bank profits if they did not have to report them. You are right, public pressure will help but it is not easy in close knit professions. I started a successful business because I was motivated by excessive pricing. We drove the price down to the point where the distributors refused to supply us as the competition complained. We then sourced goods from overseas and have continued to keep prices low.
  16. Oh good thinking, puggy. Cost price pharmaceuticals for everyone on dogzonline. hey I have friends who are bodybuilders - they'd like cost price veterinary pharmaceuticals as well Love to do it but it would put your mates out of business Oh come on poodle isn't this what this thread is all about? You stated before that we should be able to shop around for the cheapest meds and it's not fair that we are not able. You obviously have a cheap source of vet meds which you are not sharing the source of to the general public. Aren't you contradicting yourself a little by doing this? Out of interest does your vet friend offer every client of theirs meds at cheap prices or only some? I am getting tired of repeating myself but here I go again. I was motivated to start this post by a friend who had her dog to her local vet for a sore eye. It was her reaction and that of others in the group. They were unaware of the level of the mark up on Vet drugs. The general feeling was that they expected a on cost to cover handling etc but not to the level charged.

  18. ..... and if the banks brought their fees down, more of us would find the Vet fees (amongst the other countless bills in our lives) more easily affordable!! Problem solv-ed !! Now ...... to convince the bank execs they make so much money that it is obscene. Good one Erny. First we need to get the debate started and we remember it won't be easy because we will have resistance from the bank employees, their families and the share holders. Then we will be told that bank executives are highly qualified and if we pay peanuts we will get monkeys. And I forgot if we want to shop around we could go down the road to the Bendigo Bank where the fees are cheaper, but if we want a loan then being a loyal customer will hold a us in good stead. Sound familiar.
  19. Wow. And you baulk at vet fees to keep your animals alive? bravo. Here's a stupid question - if you have friends who are vets - why dont you just ask them what their markup is and to justify it??? Hi Raz, If poodle3081 has friends that are vets - problem solved. She can get medication at cost price. I do get my medication cheap. How do think I know the mark up?

And if you read all of my replies you note that I do not baulk at the fees. I am happy to pay a higher consultation fee.
  21. I don't own a grooming business. But don't let the facts get in the way of a good reply
  22. Looks for the full moon. I have a feeling the poodle runs a grooming buisness. Typical response from a few on this forum. You base your argument on feelings not fact. I do not own a grooming business. I have two jobs, a lecturer at a tertiary institution and a company director. Why is this important?
  23. Not so much the wealthy, but only for those who can afford it - like anything in life really. I'm sure there'd be tonnes of people out there who'd love to have their own horse, but they don't, because they can't afford the costs. My agistors don't give me a discount on my horses board and feed, they offer a service for those who can afford to use it. That's their price and if I can't afford that weekly cost, then either I shouldn't have a horse, or I need to find somewhere else. Is that not reasonable? Is it fair for someone to take on the responsibility of a pet knowing they can't afford it? I do belive it is a privilege to own a pet and not everyone's given right. Either you can budget for the costs, or you can't - it's really that simple. If the average person owns a pet, what is the most costly vet procedure they could be expected to pay? Would anyone out there know this? They could pay anything! In this day and age with the things that specialists can do, they could pay up to $20k! The average person should have insurance, that way, when something unexpected occurs, money won't be too much of a problem Insurance what a solution. The vets will charge more because you have insurance, the insurance company needs to make a profit. Great for the consumer. There really is no pleasing you is there. We don't know of our clients who has insurance. We charge them for what we did and many send the forms away themselves. So no, we don't charge those with insurance more. Paranoid much? Not paranoid just basic maths. Even if the Vet earns the same the cost to the consumer overall must increase. Otherwise we would have insurance companies out of business. Look at all other insurance models, if it becomes common place there will be a preferred Vets list put out by insurance companies just is it is with car and private health care.

  25. That's a novel approach, Paula. I was thinking exactly the same thing. So owning and caring for an animal should be a privilege only offered to the wealthy? The pensioner who lives from one pension cheque to the next isn't entitled to the company of a pet because they can't afford the inflated medication charges that vets think are their due "because they have a university degree"? We are not arguing here about the consultation fees of vets and vet specialists. They should be (and are) on par with GPs and specialist medical practitioners. We are debating the justification of charging inflated prices for medication simply to shore up the bottom line. If nothing else this leaves vets wide open to accusations of over medicating our pets. If some vets can't make the living they aspire to by such back-door methods, perhaps they should think of getting out of the business. After all, at least in the cities, there seems to be more vets than GPs. Unfortunatey Mum to Emma this has been stated several times and they just done get it. Charge the true cost of the service, I have said this numerous times. I do not have a problem with vet bills, and was about to have my dogs cateracts removed costing $4000. I had the total costing of the procedure prior and the drugs were a minor component.
