  1. To my knowledge the Beacon is a fluff dryer not a forced air dryer. You need to look at what type of drying you need.
  2. What model clipper are they? Are they for trimming or are they a large animal type clipper?
  3. With the Wahl KM SS the single or lower speed is the same speed as the lower speed of the KM2. This is not always the case with other brands.
  4. You cant go past them as far as value for money is concerned. The only other brand worth considering is the Andis AGC2: they are quieter but weight slightly more than the kM2.
  5. website www.clipperworld.com.au or phone 5996 2777 I deal with them all the time and they will post out same day for next day delivery.
  6. I would go for the Airmax as it has maximum force air power using two motors. Hydro Dog mobile dog wash recently tested the Airmax and they out performed the current Oldfield Twin motor dryer thet were using. They will now use the Airmax in their vans as they saved 10 to 20 minutes per dog in drying.
  7. I would go for the other Double K with two motors; the Airmax. The twin motor version is more powerfull than the Liberty and cost a lot less.
  8. The accuracy and tolerances when sharpening blades is critical and the honing wheel that is used is wearing all the time, hence the blades will vary and eventually not sharpen correctly. New blades can often be blunt and all sharpeners experience a degree of blades that are not cutting correctly. I would return it to the sharpener or get it sharpened by another sharpener. I recommend using a professional service that only sharpens clipper blades, as there are businesses that sharpen anything such as knives etc, and these guys are usually not specialists when it comes to clipper blades.
  9. I have the Ultraforce MK2. I got it about 5 + yrs ago. It is great to use in the warmer months as it is not heated. It does blow warm air as the motor warms up. It is a bit powerful for the smaller dogs but fantastic to use on the big hairy ones. I would never part with it even though I don't use it all the time. I use the Melbourne Dog Center twin motor drier on a daily basis. Basically forced air dryers are the same, and a twin motor Double K Airmax is the same as a twin motor Liberty or MDC,and the main difference is the price. MDC dryers are over priced and the servicing charges are excessive. Do your homework on dryers as the price and quality vary greatly. I have worked in the past servicing all brands and the motors in the Liberty, Double K, MDC and most others are the same. I had the Melbourne Dog Center drier rebuilt last year. It was $650 to replace both motors. I did think about getting anew one but decided to get it fixed because it is a great drier. That repair is cost is excessive. The motors have a cost price of approximately $70 each and it would take approximately 1 hour to replace them. A cost of $250 would cover parts and labor not $650. Shop around and get quotes before getting repairs. It was in the winter last year so I needed the heated drier fast. I almost had a fit and thought about getting a different drier. Any suggestions for repairs in the SE Vic if it happens again. I would hate to pay that again after reading it would have only been $250. I hate being told how much I got ripped off, but at the same time, I should have known better. That is a bloody lot of grooming to pay for the repairs. I am in the wrong job for sure. Clipper World in Cranbourne service dryers and clippers and their prices are reasonable.
  10. The Beacon dryer is not a forced air dryer and the motor used is a brushless type and they require very little maintenance. If you want a forced air dryer then you will have to go for a dryer with a brush type motor. If used in a grooming salon brush type dryers may need the brushes replaced every 6 months if used heavily. I recommend that you do not use brush type dryers for cage drying as they require more maintenance and they are also noisey in the work environment.

  13. Hi Pesh, Try Groomers Edge range by Double K. The winner of the PIAA grooming award in Melbourne last year uses it exclusively and number of groomers i know have switched from the Petway pink to it and have been impressed. If you contact Clipper World I am sure they would send you a sample.
  14. There are two types of dryers; forced air and they use brush type motors and fluff dyers that can be brushless. The brushless motor type such as the Beacon or the Double K 9000 are quiet but will not blast the water of the coat. They rely on volumes of low pressure air. The Oldfield is a brush type motor and hence has the forced air capacity, but it is noisy similar to Liberty. You need to decide on what task you want from the dryer and then research the quality and price options. There are many dryers out there that are overpriced and in the end there is very little difference between them.
  15. Good to hear positive experience regarding the training of groomers. Don't be put off by the negative comments, as there will always be knockers out there.
  16. yes i saw these while trying to find more info on clippers and they look really easy to use and pretty good quality for domestic use has anyone used it before.. please give me some feedback.. the website has a u-tube link and it looks so easy i agree with settrlvr. You are better off saving the extra and buying a clipper that will last and do the job more efficiently. You can buy a Wahl KM SS clipper for $170 and this is a professional quality 40W clipper that has standard blades that can be sharpened, and parts and service readily available.
  17. I have seen them used and they drag the hair into the blade and leave a good finish as the hair is cut to the same length. The groomer told me that when she started using it the customers noted the superior finish on the dogs. The one she was using was a taxi vac and it was cheaper and better than the groomers friend system. It would obviously take time to master, as there would be an inconvenience with the vacuum hose attached.
  18. The problem with the plastic hydrobath is the hygiene factor, as the minute scratches that build up and this will allow bacteria to breed in them. This would be more of an issue in a grooming salon when it is being used constantly and the risk and liability from cross infection is a concern. This is the reason why they do not make spa baths for humans from plastic: they use fibre glass for the surface durability.
  19. Go for the fibreglass unit from Perfect Paws. I'm not keen on the plastic one from the barfshop.
  20. I thought they were a bit dearer. I wanted some new Wahls, but thought I'd have to settle for Shear Magic. If anyone knows for sure please share! Clipper World sell the Wahl to groomers for $38.50 and they retail them for $44.50. www.clipperworld.com.au
  21. Many replies refer to TAFE courses other than the Adelaide one and it for this reason I object. There are good courses and bad courses, just as there are good groomers and bad groomers.
  22. The point I was making about a teacher training is that it is like most professions and that is the formal training is only the start of the process in becoming a competent professional. All professions require years of experience to become an expert. I have dealt with a number of groomers who are working in the industry, and got their start in TAFE. Swinburne Uni in Victoria offered a course for existing groomers to advance thier skills and this course was conducted in a salon. The feedback from the students was excellent. TAFE courses are the same as groomers, there are some bad ones out there but the whole industry should not be tarnished. TAFE courses need to be encouraged as it is the only way to formally train people for the industry. For the industry to grow in status, training and qualifications need to be done in a formal and accredited way, not in an adhoc fashion by learning from a groomer with no quality control.
