  1. Another vote for Feather Edge, Ian is the best around his dad Charlie was very well known in the grooming/hairdressing industry. I normally drop the blades/scissors at his house and he either couriers them back or I collect them a couple of days later.

Don't waste your time with Clipperworld their sharpening service is useless.

I and a number of my friends use clipper World for both scissor and blade sharpening and find their service excellent

  2. Erny, I've tried calendula tea. It provides some relief but only tempoary, the next day or an hour or so later, he starts scratching again.

I'm really thinking of switching shampoo. Using Aloveen at the moment. When to check out Fido and there are so many different formulas. Not sure which to get for an itchy dog with dry skin. Can anyone help please?

    Thanks

Try the Paws by Blackmores. They have done a lot of research on skin conditions and treatments.

  3. A hair dryer won't be as effective as the force dryer as the benefit of the force dryer is the strength of the airflow. It basically blows the hair straight and blows the loose hair out.

Reasonable forced air dryers can be bought for under $200 these days (check out the Pupkus dryers or some of the ones on the Petnetwork website for instance).

A dryer can be worth its weight in gold if you have double coated dogs.

A 'cheaper' alternative though is to find a DIY dog wash as they will usually have dryers available.

I have a page on grooming that may have a few tips on it that you can use: http://www.espinay.com/grooming

Thank you :) I'll check out the links and have a look at the pupkus dryers :)

Go to Petnetwork. They have the Lazor RX Dryers. They are the same as the Pupkus but cheaper.

  4. As the title reads, has anyone ever bought a dog dryer from eBay? There are a couple I'm looking at:

There's heaps of others too. The prices just seem too good to be true, so I'm thinking they probably are?

What's a good wattage for a dog dryer?

Use these dryers and when they fail throw them away as they are not worth getting them repaired at this price. Also disregard the wattage rating as almost all quote figures are not true as there is no regulation or policing on these dryers from China. The true power of a dryer is it's current rating. Dryers such as Oldfield made here in Australia have a current rating in amps on the nameplate.

Thanks for the info. So what's a good current rating then?

10amps is the maximum allowable in Australia. Generally twin motor dryers take around 8 to 10amps

  6. Friends here with Newfs use a Liberty giant

Pupkus make a table that is heavier than the Liberty giant.

    I have both .

You can also make your own easily .

Pupkus for example make tables for all sizes priced reasonably as for a spaniel head done to a dog show & vendors sell tables all the time that would suit

Pupkus do not make tables as they are sourced from China and can be purchased from many other suppliers such as Petnetwork

  7. Pupkus (i think thats how it is spelt)- with a nozzle for the sibes :) Blows all the dead hair right out

The Lazor RX dryers are equivalent to the Pupkus dryers and cheaper. I spoke to one of the leading show vendors in Melbourne who is a qualified Electrician, they originally sold the Pupkus brand but now sell the Lazor RX as it is the same quality but cheaper.

I personally didn't find the Lazor RX to have as much "puff" as the Pupkus I purchased and the Pupkus was cheaper. I also purchased the stand. Purchased direct from Pupkus and it was way cheaper than purchasing from other vendors.

I have worked repairing dryers and the Sallyair, Pupkus and Lazor RX all have the same motors. The only difference is the name plate.

  8. Andis blades are my favourites. Bit of a no brainer if you have Andis clippers I suppose.

Where do you usually buy yours from Clyde?

Most of mine are Osters as they were my preferred brand of clipper 13 or so years ago. I've had them for so long I can't remember where I bought them. :o I do have quite a few 30's though, Universal brand

    http://clipperbladesharpening.webs.com/clipperblades.htm

I am not sure where I got my Andis blades from as I can't remember getting them either. To be honest I don't even notice what brands they all are. I probably should pay attention so I can work out a preference as I am sure some are better than others but I don't really notice so long as they cut well and don't sound funny.

Today is the first time I've bought a blade in quite a few years. I mainly use 30's as I mostly use combs even for short clips - I prefer the finish.

My Wahl clippers have been going strong for years with no issue but next decade around I might look at the Andis ones as quite a few people seem to be favouring them these days. I get sore wrists though and find the Wahl light for this, someone said on here a while back though that the Andis are lighter?

Andis are definitely heavier than the Wahl. I would recommend the Geib Buttercut blades not expensive and come highly recommended by Melanie Newman former teacher ADC and master groomer.

You can get a #30 online in Aust for $28.
