  1. Ive found any harness not fitted correctly and for the individual dog size that this can indeed be quite common.
  2. Do you want to borrow some hounds that may or may not pull :p They are very adjustable, I can leave the medium large in my post box tommorow for you if you want? I will order in a large. They come with a very easy to read and use booklet and once fitted properly make a huge diffrence
  3. For you??!!! Of course! What size do you want? I have a medium and medium large (for the more voluptuous hound!) at home at the moment but I can also get you a small, large and extra large if you would like in the next week or so Each beagle as I said in the earlier post goes out with one and it’s made a huge difference to them taking advantage and pulling on lead during the settling in period/trial period. Each family that has taken a beagle from us in the last 3 months has called us wanting to know where they can get them for their existing beagle as they can’t get over what a difference it makes! Charlie HATES the harness so much as he knows the harness wins time and time again!
  4. The Sensible and Senation harness http://softouchconcepts.com/products/sense_ible_harness.html hands down when fitted correctly has worked wonders with all the rescue beagles, we have now incorporated these as part of our adoption package and each beagle goes to their new home wearing one
  5. artimus'mama there are some fantastic trainers here on DOL who could give you the added help/assistance and advice you need now while the pup is still young. Underdog training are fantastic with the "Evil Beagles" and we highly recommend them and Golden Acres training for their knowledge and experience with our breed!! Look for trainers who think outside the square, who are willing to acknowledge that beagles whilst stubborn are NOT stupid and who will show you how to enjoy your time with your beagle! Feel free to PM us for any advice and welcome to the wonderful world of beagles!
  6. We have had 3 Beagles come through that needed to have the surgery as their owners had let the infection go to far, since having the surgery they are no longer in pain and no sign of infection has returned, the infection was acually quite deep and the areas rancid to say the least. Apple Cider Vinegar, green tea, dermotic etc are all great in early stages and as preventative's but once the infection has got right in the lip folds and is creating issues sometimes surgery is the better option. We tried all other options before surgery but they were in pain, had trouble chewing bones, the smell of infection coming from their mouths was shocking, they were constantly rubbing their mouths on the carpet and wouldnt let anyone touch their faces; we now have 3 very happy, healthy, loveable little rogues who will happily let you touch their faces and mouths!
  7. Huge hug to you Bini, run free Mac Boy

  12. Hi, We are looking for Recommendations for great obedience/clubs schools in the Geelong area for one of our recently adopted Beagles; we are looking for a school that is happy with positive food rewards as well as praise and instructors who encourage Beagle owners rather than just pat them on the back and give them a smile just for turning up Any recommendations would be highly appreciated! Thanks
  13. 4 Paws are fantastic, we have one of their qualified trainers consult and assist us with our Rescue Beagles.
  14. So sorry to hear of you Loss
  15. Try a little bit of olive oil on the cotton wool first, let her see it and sniff it, then gently clean the outer ear and flap. It may take quite a few times to gain her trust but most have to sniff it eventually, from there you can build her up to letting you put the drops in. I find Scent Hounds settle better when they have been given the chance to investigate and sniff it out first. Much easier to turn into a pleasant experince afterwards with a tiny treat and lots of praise.
  16. RIP Georgey Porgy may you run free sniffing and delighting all. RIP Arnie
  17. Freckles: You have made my day!!! The ammount of times we have used a stone/rock/twig to get their attention is amazing!
  18. Its always good to hear another beagle person usuing tricks Infact i find their minds to be quite amazing, clever creatures that they are! We tried our older boy charlie with every method possible, his prey drive is so high that the only one that works for him and us is the correction collar, we put the little guy on it too. In the early days at the park we used to look like we were being taken sledding as charlie lunged and pulled to scents! Beaglenewb: the main thing here is that you understand the breed and what works for you/him; This includes foods, training, sleeping, playing etc. There are many experienced beagle people on this forum that would be more than happy to help you should you need to know how to trick and distract those clever, evil and busy minds! Do you know how many times I have said this myself CBL Actually I just said it in the pm to beaglenewb as well Believe me I'm not against the use of correction chains, I just haven't had to use one on the beagles.
  19. Freckles i hae to agree with you 100% with getting their attention with treats and being able to use treat training in conjunction with other methods. Beaglenewb: I also agree with freckles, go and have a look at the training clubs and speak to the trainers and see what suits you. I spent months deciding on the best club for my guys. Beagles are NOT as hard to train as people say they are, you just need to understand the breed and learn how to trick their active minds! But for my guys its correction collars all the way!
  20. I have always used correction collars on all my beagles with nothing but positive results. Like any form of correction if you are taught the correct way to use it it is beneficial for both you and your beagle. I have used a halti on one of our rescues as she had never been put on a lead and reacated strongly against any kind of chains; but besides her i have never had an issue. I would never take my beagles out for a walk without a correction collar as when a beagle picks up a scent they can be both strong and stubborn in their need to pull to get to that scent! Pm me if you want to know some excellent clubs in Vic that do understand the beagle mind!
