Should I Stay Home Or Go To My First Trial Tomorrow?
SueM replied to SueM's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I had my second trial yesterday, heaps better still didnt get a qualifying score, but he was better heeling, perfect stand for exam, and his recall was heaps better why are they always so perfect at training arghhh its like he knows I have no control re correcting him, although he still forgot he has to come all the way to me instead of sitting 3 metres in front of me all in all it was a big improvement, I remembered to stop looking down at him and talking things can only get better, groups perfect sit stay full marks, drop stay will have to keep working on it the little beggar seems to be going through a phase -

I have had my two on Nutro light now for a few weeks it is the only food I have found that is controlling my boys weight, for the first time I am making inroads in him losing weight I would recommend it highly I dont know where you are located but you can buy it at Feedmania at Browns Plains, Logan.

No worries we do train at the same park on obedience training nights, I do go to the pony club and train during the week,he is spot on in all his exercises at training hence why they told me to start trialling I wasnt going to start until next year, but they said he was training well enough going through the dif classes he was always winning best of class when we had fun days,I have a trial saturday week so will see how I go their -

Blimey because the instructors at my club said both myself and Harvey were ready he was having ring run outs at the club and I was being judged by obedience judges that said he was getting qualifying scores maybe I should just give up I am glad your dog is so good I will follow my instructors advice they say he is ready I just need to get better., did you ever get nervous when you first trialled? -

How is the dog ever going to learn if you shouldnt do the group stays if you havent got a qualifying score it might be a while before I do get one unless my handling improves ,he is solid as in training he never moves, their is no way of knowing he isnt going to perform in the ring...A long as he isnt interfering with someone elses dog where is the harm? The dog doing the humping was in Open, all the CCD dogs on the day and it was a wet horrid day were fabulous...Its what I am taught at my club any other members at our club on non qualifying scores also did the group stays for proofing. -

Its a rule change its in the new rule book you are allowed to have it on in just one part ie the groups, I checked it with the judge before entering and also the rule book, its a pity I didnt take notice of all the other rules I will get some piccies of him in groups for you sidoney, one of the members of my group took piccies but not of groups..here is a mini group for you hehe, Harvey is no couch potatoe he is an action man -

the clubs normally sell them, re the stays I def put my dog in he didnt have a qualifyling score but members of my obedience club said to for proofing etc, he is normally solid as in groups but he did get up in the drop but merely sat and didnt interfere with other dogs...One dog actually got up in the open ring and humped another dog the dog being humped didnt move -

Hi I had my first trial in the weekend as well, it was a dogs breakfast partly my awful handling mistakes and Midgetguts not liking the wet conditions, just think things can only get better, my judge was nice as well the majority are I have been told, although the steward asked me if I had a rule book I got a grand score of 30/100 -

I screwed the heeling up he wasnt to bad but stupid me had to look down and talk to him,he did a perfect stand for exam but sat just before the judge said exercise finished oops, his recall mmm he forgot what to do after doing perfect recalls for months at training I had to call him a second time then he was kinda not keen to come as he had to go through a large muddy patch On to groups was perfect in the sit stay, but the down stay his tum tum was getting wet so he sat up, he thought about leaving the ring alltogether but decided maybe not considering he has a husky one side and a g shep the other, so he stayed next to his marker all be it sideways little brat :laugh:as normal he got himself a fan club while competing arrghhh people kept wanting to cuddle him... -

also something I wanted to ask is it ok to use a hand signal when you start heeling, I usually say heel and use a forward hand signal? -

I think he will be fine in the wet ground until it comes to the drop stay Although he does tend to lag a bit when heeling if it is wet, but nothing ventured nothing gained -
