  1. Yea!! Kelly and Chloe  So glad it all went well getting the stitches out, and that she is feeling so much better. You must be wrapt Kelly, hopefully you are getting to have some well earned rest now!! So the road to recovery for your two must nearly be over. Hope all goes well for you both over Christmas, have a good one!! Can you start Chloe back on any exercise or anything yet??
  2. Oh i am so sorry for you and Jinta  you gave her all you could while you had her for your short time together - take care RIP in peace little one
  3. Oh Noooo!! you guys are starting to freak me out - our pup Mallee has been on Rimadyl and also Carphrofen (not together) for about 3-4 months on a off, but has been on Rimadyl continously now for a month - 50ml tablet a day, but now we have taken it down to 1/2 tablet in the morning!!! Do you think we should be asking to change the medication, she has to be on something otherwise she just seems to be too stiff and in too much pain (she is 5 weeks post op as some of you may know)!!! Arghhhhh what to do????
  4. Hi Kelly good to hear that Chloe has calmed down a bit for you since the other night!! The cheeky little escape artist. ITs excellent that she is walking around well, and seems to be happy in herself! After Mallee had her first operation on her front legs, we gave her warm milk at night just before bed, and it seemed to settle her into sleeping a bit better, but then again she was just a baby so that may be why helped her. After the operation on the back legs we were sent home with sedatives....i wonder why they couldn't have given you a lose dosage sedative??? The ones we were given were basically childrens car sickness tablets.. We saw our surgeon again yest....it has now been i think 5 weeks since her last op, and he is very happy with her progress...thank god and gave us physio exercises to do with her. On Tuesday night she actually took 5 steps out the back by herself not supported ;) we could not have been happier, she is also trying to scratch herself with her back left leg, its funny the things we get excited over now!! Back to the surgeon in the first few weeks of Jan for x-rays and then we can start her swimming, more walkies, and more physio. Then he seems to think he will not need to see us for 3 months after that and that she should be running through the vets office by then....i can't wait just want to fastforward to March now and have her all better. I hope all things go well with you and Chloe, hopefully, fingers crossed you will soon be able to get a good night sleep, maybe you need the sedatives and rescue remedy. Take care and give beautiful Chloe a big pat from me and Mallee. Keep me posted. Antoinette When does she get her stitches out or are they staples??
  5. Soooo sorry to learn of your loss - your poor beautiful baby....
  6. Hedds - our pup is only 8mths old and she has been on Cosequin and Sasha's Blend before hand from the age of 4 months. It has been given to protect the joints that have arthritis and prevent against arthritis. Nature Vet you commented on the rate of cosequin horse powder we give our pup, are you saying that two scoops is what you should give and not measure per kilo of dog weight???
  7. Its great when you find a great vet, esp someone who seems to like your dog/s as much as you do. We found the best ever surgeon specialist for our girl, all up he has done 4 ops on her and only charged us for 2 - we love him to bits unfortunalty though he has just quit his position at the animal hospital we take our girl too, :D and has referred us to another sugeron at the same practice, he is fantastic too but not the same as the first surgeon!! When you find a good one stick to them!!!!
  8. Our pup is on Cosequin, but our specialist recommended the powdered horse form instead of the tablets, it works out cheaper, you only dose on the actual glucosime in it though and disregard the rest - i think that is was 44ml per kilo of dog weight. Mind you we are know wishing we had just got the tablets to make to easier in the measuring department!!
  9. You probably would have a white coat on and be in a padded room!!! How is she today Kelly?? Anymore improvement?
  10. Hey Kelly, Mallee gets taken out between 3-4 times a day, 7.30am, 12.30 and then around 6ish at night, but if she gets really restless at around 9pm we tend to take her out again. She is only outside for about 5 mins at a time... Just lately she has been mucking around alot when it is time to go back into the cage especially at night, so we have been letting her just lie on the floor in the lounge room (where her cage is) for about 5 mins, but you have to really watch that she makes no sudden movements or starts to be too silly...We are so greatful that we had taken her to puppy school before all this started so she is very good with her sits, stays and drops, which has made it so much easier. Yeap it still is a long way to go, my OH was just saying last night it already seems to have been so long since she was well that he finds it hard to remember what it was like to have a healthy dog......just sooo hope it has all been worth it, and she will be up walking around by herself again soon. I can't wait to be able to walk her again and just enjoy her being a dog, not locked up in a cage all the time, but, it is for a reason so we just have to be patient.
  11. Hey Kelly_Louise So glad to hear that Chloe is back home and doing well!!!! Glad you have also finally gotton to have some rest.!!. Mallee is doing OK and seems to know, like Chloe does, that she cannot do everything that she used to, it has been four weeks now, and probably another 4-6 to go in the cage so i suppose now the hard part starts with her. As i am sure the better she gets the harder it is going to be to keep her quite!!! She is walking around better, and even on occassions, much to our horror, tries to run and chase bugs while on the lead and in the sling!! Back to see the surgeon early next week so hopfully we can start on physio then. Give Chloe and big pat from me and keep us posted. PS.. she looks soo happy in the photo to be home
  12. Hi Kelly_Louise, just wondernig if you have Chloe home yet, and how you are going, i thought you were picking her up last night. Hope all went well, please let me know Antoinette
  13. Kel - Mallee has to be in the crate for 6-8 weeks but she has two sets of bones that need to heal. Telephone your surgeon if you are really concerned about what to do with her, maybe she could stay in hospital longer while you sort something out.......I don't think the surgeon would let you / or want you to do anything with Chloe that would damage what he has just tried to repair.!!!.
  14. Rest in peace Bluey - So sorry to hear of your sad loss, i am sure Bluey is up there in a 4WD looking down on you!! Tresure your memories.
  15. Kelly - i presume that you are seeing a surgeon that your vet referred you to, if you are, ring your local vets or any other vets in the area and see if they can hire you one if the surgeon does not have one!! He should let you know what is required though!!
  16. Hey Kelly, we had the same problem with Mallee, maybe you could try your local vets - they had one we could hire but it was too small. You can buy them from certain larger pet shops, but not sure of the price, and you prob need it in a hurray. My OH ended up making Mallee's its 4foot by 2foot just big enough for her to stand and turn around and maybe take 1-2 steps in it, you feel really bad having them in there. Maybe also check out the classified section on this website - if all else fails maybe the laundry and just partion a bit off so it smaller..... ....I suppose the good thing is if she is in a crate you can keep her inside.
  17. Oh Kelly thats is terrible what your friends BF said I understand why you have done what you have done - and please don't doubt your decisions - i think you should be proud of what you have done for your girl, there are alot of people out there that just wouldnot go to the expense of what you have done!! We had many people telling us that we were stupid to put Mallee through the 4 operations she has had, but i think it would have been harder to watch her slowly get worse and in alot of pain all the time - so i think that we have both done the right thing. Another way to look at it is, we would not let ourselves or a loved one go through life in massive amounts of pain without doing anything so why should our furrfriend/family be any different. We still are not back into our regular pattern of sleeping - we have actually moved our bed into the lounge so Mallee wont stand up all night crying....the things we do....lol.... Try and get some rest as hard as it is, you don't want to get sick!! Mallee came home with a bucket on her head (E collar) maybe if Chloe has one of those on it will slow her down a bit, it sure did Mallee. Hang in there Kel and big hugs to you and Chloe, i'm sure she is well on the road to better health now!! And you have done everything you can for her and once she starts healing i'am sure she will let you know that!!
  18. Hi Kelly, Glad Chloe is coming home with you tonight, sorry to hear that your visit did not go too well. We were worried about visting Mallee also while in hospital, but she was in there for three weeks so we had to in the end as she would not eat for the nurses.....Even though she seemed really distressed i am sure Chloe is getting lots of love from the nurses, and settled down well after you left. With the towel sling thing - they way we do it is my OH takes the towel end and walks next to her bum, and i take the lead and try to make her walk slowly so the sling does not slipl otherwise Mallee tries to walk in circles if one person walks her!!!...lol.... Anway hope she settles in well at home tonight, and let us know how the recovey etc goes!!
  19. We had trouble getting Mallee into and out of the car, but she has two bung back legs so hopefully you will be right, at least you have your dad there to help you get her in and out. When we picked Mallee up we put heaps of cushions behind the front seat of the car on the floor of the back seat to bring the floor level up with the seat(if you get what i mean) so that there was heaps of room for her to stretch out and not worry about falling on the floor, and of course i had to sit in the back with her so she would not try to move around.
  20. Hi Kelly_Louise - so great to hear the Chloe is doing well!!! ;) I am so happy for you both!!! Hopefully her recovery will speed up once she is home and happy with you...The ramps are a great idea we have been thinking of getting them for Mallee, you can also get some for your car to make getting in and out easier on them. Do you know if she has to be walked in a sling or anything like that or is she already fully weight bearing on her leg already? P.S. do you have sore cheeks yet from all the smiling....lol
  21. i have heard that adding cooked rice to their dinners works - but have not really tried it!!!
  22. Thats OK Kelly-Louise I know what you are going through - it has been a great help to me having this forum to go to and speak to like minded people who obviously love their dogs as much as we do, and are so willing to help!! So any help i can give is glady given!! Mallee is doing OK - still no exercise and still in the cage but doing ok, slowly but surely!!! Keep me updated as to Chloe's progress.
  23. Hi Kelly Have been thinking about you all of today waiting for you to put a post up.....Hope all goes well with Chloe....What is the recovery time involved in the surgery she is having and what if any exercises will you need to do afterwards, will she need to be caged?. How long will she be in hospital do you know. Hang in there she is in the best possible hands know!! P.S. - sorry for all the questions
