  1. I'm stuck then, I'll have to try to get hubby to stay home with Storm as if we seperate them they go nuts and go to my usual vet at North Richmond for Sams C5 then. He started on a C3 but when we were lucky enough to get some cash together for a holiday we added in the C5. Storm coming from the pound I had a C5 done for health reasons. It seems the local vet will only do a C7 nothing else.
  2. That's all I use to get, but I've been told the C7 contains the 'corona' not sure of the spelling and also protection for the virus caused by rats. It makes me wonder if it's just another money spinner?
  3. Now that we have Storm, going to our old vet is a bit hard as it is a small wait your turn waiting room. I went to our local vets yesterday to ask about Sams C5 as it's overdue (I've been in and out of hospital the last few months). I've been told it's now a C7 , has anyone else had their dog vaccinated with this and if so any problems? He's due to go in on Thursday for his shot.
  4. Jacki my thoughts go out to you and your family. RIP Pyro, I'm sure Kuta would love to have you play zoomies with her. ;) I was only just showing my SIL some piccies of him the other week and saying what a beautiful boy he is/ was. To our BSL poster boy, run free.
  5. Thankyou everyone for your thoughts. I've been in hospital so was unable to reply earlier. I did paint a tile in hospital of Kuta with the rainbow behind her and her name so it will be placed on the arts wall to be a memory for all. It's still upsetting to think about but I believe she's off running free and happy.
  6. Today my mums APBT was pts. Her health had been failing over the last couple of weeks and between the vet and my mother they decided it was time to help her cross the bridge to play with her sheltie friend Prince waiting there. We battled hard and beat the council with it's stupid BSL only to lose her anyway. RIP Kuta, enjoy the freedom you now have to live in peace and safety.
  7. Sam who has just turned 2 still mainly pees like a girl but does the leg cock for marking. His favourite item at the moment seems to be tyre wheels to lean against.

    Pitt Bull

In NSW no they can't. They can't even be given to another family member.
  9. Sounds like a typical retriever. Toys in my place are chewed apart in a couple of hours. Obedience training is important, I met a 6yr old lab the other day who could give Sam a run for his money running around like a loon. It's also goldies who like tables....

    Silly double post.

    Pitt Bull

I'm not sure what state you're in but in NSW pitbulls are restricted dogs and must be desexed and follow tough laws in keeping them. The term pitbull is often thrown around rather genericly, some people will include different bull breeds in there. Are you sure your friend didn't mean another breed as APBTs are being eradicated through no fault of their own. The bull breeds do make lovely pets, guard dogs...... not really, unless you just want the look and bark to scare people off.
  12. We got Sam (goldy) as a 10 week old pup and he was placed outside from the start. I was home all day though so he got to spend time inside and plenty of play sessions etc during the day. Health wise if a pup has a safe yard and adequate shelter it will be fine. It's the boredom/ stimulation side I'd worry about, that then comes into play whether the dog is inside or outside.
  13. Constantly for one person may be as short as 5 minutes. I agree with the others of trying to get someone you trust to listen for the dog when it's put outside so you'll have a better idea of what is happening.
  14. Sam pooped a on our deck when he was a pup and what I did was take him near his poop so he could smell it was his and told him bad dog, I then took him to the lawn and placed him near his poop there and praised him telling him what a good dog he was. I also kept a close eye on him and gave him repeated praise for using the lawn. It worked for him, he only uses the lawn for his business.
  15. "The most common cause of severe reaction to vaccinations in children/babies is because they use egg protein as the base and a reaction to this is the issue, not the actual 'disease'. Your 3rd child could possibly have been booked into hospital to be closely monitored to ensure immediate measures can be taken in case of a reaction. " Cordy, I know it's not the disease itself. It's also very interesting that they have an adverse reaction clinic for children to go to when there's a worry about immunisation. It would indicate the numbers must be a lot higher then released, why else the need for such a thing? In my research I spoke to them, the doctor admitted it was the vaccine that sent my son to hospital with irritation to the brain ( he now has learning problems and different forms of dyspraxia) and they could not guarentee that it wouldn't happen to our 3rd child and yet they still wanted her to be done. As if. It's a case of being damned if you do and damned if you don't. It's something each parent or dog owner has to decide for themselves as they're the ones who live with the outcome.
  16. I'm sorry for the loss, I've never experienced this with a dog but have had my 2 eldest react to their first immunisation. My second child ended up in hospital, doing more research we didn't have our 3rd child vaccinated for most things. I know with children it's actually a lot more common then the public knows about.
  17. My goldy gets fed twice a day. If he's not hungry he'll often leave it, but never refuses treats. ;)
  18. No it wasn't a mistake because he weighed the same as my goldy when he was less then a year old and growing still. Cordelia he looks a lot fatter then your girl who is beautiful by the way. I don't know if he's lost any weight with his new diet or not.
  19. Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll try and get some piccies of him on the weekend and post them up.
  20. Thanks to everyone for replying. Prince is on Eukanuba biscuits only now, I think he weighed somewhere in the 20 to 25 kilo range a while ago. Height wise he is a taller sheltie. My mum doesn't drive and I live an hour away so it's not really possible for her to get him swimming. Poodlefan, I know what you mean about mum's thinking our dogs are too skinny. My goldy weighs 30 kilos, spot on by our vet but skinny in her opinion.
  21. Here's my goldy Sam enjoying a winter bushwalk. I keep Frontline plus on him fortnightly all year round, I find it easier that way.
  22. The vet seems to think that the dog is ok and says he's seen other dogs like this, that's why I thought I'd ask. I've never seen another dog walk like that. I'm not sure what Prince is on, he seems to have creams and medicines for quite a few things. It's just such a pity, as he does have a lovely temperment and is a great companion for my mum.
  23. He's very overweight, it's my mothers dog and she trusts her vet. I don't live with them so I can't answer all your questions sorry. I agree, I wish she would go to another vet but I think she's scared of what they'd tell her. In her case she kills her animals with kindness.
  24. I'm writing this for my mum and her 7yr old sheltie Prince. Prince is overweight and walks on his two back hocks. As you can imagine he cannot move far or up and down steps. It has been an ongoing problem for a while now. His vet has said it's caused by dermatitis on the paws. Prince is on pain medication and as you can imagine doesn't get to enjoy a full on doggy life. Has anyone ever encounted anything like this before? Any ideas on other things that may help him? He's on a diet now, but not being able to walk means no exercise. Thanks.
