What does your bitch weigh?? Is she desexed??
-
I train at ADT, Southern and Rotty club. All train differently and I find all of them enjoyable in there own ways, and they all have things I don't agree with. ADT - I joined to gain some manners for my male stafford. Yeah he could heel, sit, stay etc, but he would nearly knock someone down when he saw them due to excitement. ADT have helped me work on these skills and also have given me other methods to improve the 'trialling' side of things, even though they don't teach trialling. Southern - Well I have had good days and bad days with them. Yep, I have left in tears I will admit that. Not because of the methods, more because of specific trainers. Yes they are traditional (use correction collars), and once above the beginner classes they tend to frown on food (not all of the instructors). Thing is, nothing is outlawed and if you want to use it, they aren't going to chuck you out of class for it. My girl has trained there and she would turn to water if she was corrected, and is purely trained using food and positive praise. My boy, however can use the occasional 'correction' but is mostly food and positive praise aswell. I have learnt to stand by the choices I have made when it comes to training there, and I have learnt alot from majority of the instructors re trialling, but wouldn't let them tell me how I can't train my dog. Rotty Club (RCV) - I have to admit that I find this the most enjoyable of them all. They are very much focused on making sure the dogs enjoy there training, and you really understand how to train in a way that is both enjoyable for yourself and for your dog. They are very big on the reward based training, be it food, favourite toy etc. And always make sure that the dogs are set up to succeed not fail. Yep correction collars are used on most of the dogs, and corrections are taught in class. So regardless of whether it is a 'old style' school or a new type school or a mix of all different methods, it is ultimately your dog, and your decision as to how you train and use these methods. I don't think any one club will make you 100% happy, you have to take a piece from all and learn as you go.

I agree with Tess32, and would add offal and veg to your mix. Other things I add are kelp, fish oil, flaxseed, yogurt and egg (inc the shell).

Hand Signals For Obedience Trials?
Purpley replied to squeak's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am no expert, but from watching a trial last week I didn't see a real difference, maybe just a bit more animated so that the dog can see them at a distance. -
You sucked - I watched you!! Ed did ace though Nah you both did well, very proud of you. Pity they don't teach non food stealing as part of it, I might still have a biscuit and half a bag of roo puffs, oh and bird seed

I got my woofers at Orbee tough Orbo from K9Force http://www.k9force.net/index.html?row2col2=orbee.html They are awesome. I have staffords and not a mark on it so far, and they get it everynight with treats in it. My clicker came from black dog.

Erny: Yep its still Narre Nth clinic, just moved and new name. Cosmolo: It used to be a bark busters similiar training. Wasn't a fan of there puppy school when OH took his puppy there a couple of years ago. Am interested in their prices for the 'supermarket'. Will check out the pool out of curiosity, but won't be using the vets.
-
Yep it sure is. You can also try the frames as PF said, or necks aswell. Just be careful with the necks as some dogs tend to scoff them and don't chew them at all.
-
PM sent IR.
-
Thats isn't a bad price, we will have check it out stinky Shoes.
-
Oh they weren't there last time I looked :D
-
Does anyone know how much the costs are for the pool?? I always found the fee's reasonable IR and great discounts for multiple vacc's. Like anywhere you go, there is always going to be people you don't like. There is a particular vet that I would refuse to see after she mistreated my Stafford, but having said that, I haven't had any problems with any of the other vets there.

RL01 - I learnt alot about MYSELF as a dog owner and now recognise how important being a good 'alpha' is to my dogs. Steve, I believe, can work wonders with all dogs, but you will find that you will be the one that will end up doing the most amount of changing and learning. Erny - I don't think you will see the RSPCA guy again to get the chance to work out if he is married, he looked pretty eager to get out that door after you 'spoke' to him. Maybe you did need that whip, he may have hung around for that :D -

What an awesome 3 days. Both Judi and Steve are so full of knowledge and excellent presenters. I learnt so much about not only my dogs, but about myself as a owner/trainer. We are very lucky to have Judi down here as a trainer and mentor, and you New South Wales people are also extremely lucky to have Steve. I would recommend anyone to either of these great people. Now I am off to decipher the 30 odd A4 pages of notes I managed to take. -
