That is great Helen, but are you privy to what occurs "behind the scenes" so to speak? Notice you ignored my post ...

Thread already in general.

New Vic Microchip Advertising Rules
Sheridan replied to Sir Sniffalot's topic in General Dog Discussion
The lady that contacted me did so because the seller advised her that the breeder had not forwarded the papers or vaccination record and once it had been sent to them they would pass it on to whoever bought the puppy. So the savvy buyer googled the seller email address = found nothing, googled looking for an American breeder called Jason in QLD = found nothing, googled microchip number in the ad and found an old ad for my boy with the number advertised in it (As per Vic rules) and contacted me and asked for the pups papers. And you said, 'Sorry dear, not my puppy, you've been scammed bigtime'? -
If that's a case then it makes a mockery of the protocol. How did you find out? I breed bulldogs and have friends that are over there - also I am on the facebook pages of friends of the owner, it is nothing more than a sad political stunt - there is a facebook page in support of her owner - just search for Team Jenny, the profile pic is of her winning Bulldog of the Year Given what lappiemum cited from the DQ for bulldogs: 'damage (scarring or ulceration) to the cornea caused by e.g. facial folds, distichiasis, ectopic cilia, poor eyelid anatomy', what exactly caused the 'pin-prick scar'? An old injury was said but was it an actual injury or one of the above? If it was the dog bumping into something, for instance, that's easy to prove, isn't it?

Yes, at the premier dog show, Crufts. Based on some agreed upon schedule of targeted areas & process. To illustrate the best of the best on show. And to push what changes are now expected, from the top. But again, Mita, as per my previous post: with some breeds how do you know if a dog is healthy? And as per my other post, this also sends a message to the judges because it isn't just breeding for extremes, it's rewarding the extremes and this last is right down to the judges. They put up extremes, they should have a whopping great kick up the arse, too.
-
But what is extreme? It may sound odd, but the judges that gave the BOB to these dogs were told to look for examples of extremism, and they thought these dogs - who were later disqualified - were sound enough to award. Again, it is a single vet opinion, and so be it. But I just think that there are better ways to deal with this issue, that is all. I get the feeling that the KC's approach is that you can't make an omlette without breaking a few eggs - but they should also be prepared for any ramifications down the track. Its a double edged sword they are using. oh, and that statement made me nervous as it may be interpretted as undermining the validity of the opinion of the vet. It could be used to challenge that opinion later on. But why is a better way to deal with it vet examining all dogs before entry?
-
Kind of skips completely over a few other causes of action but I"m still not sure having your dog disqualifed is a direct impact on YOUR reputation. At crufts, I think it may ;) I think it's somehow worse if there's no public reason given.
-
But that is my point - being seen to be doing the right thing is precisely that - being seen... Again, they do it with cat shows. Each dog needs to check in at registration. This would be one more step. Come on, if we could put a man on the moon people I'm sure they can check these dogs - even if its just in the 15 identified breeds..... My issue with the vet check system at a dog or cat show (or any type of animal show) is that it only gives an indication of the physical speciman. If, for example, a wheaten terrier was vet checked for physical issues and passed then hey, the dog's healthy right? Well, tell that to the people whose dogs died of a protein-wasting disease passed down from the sire or dam whose blood tests were clear. No genetic test right now so how do you show that a sire shouldn't be breed from because he's a carrier? You can't so physical tests are a waste of time. Sometimes a pointed 'look you' is the best frightener that can be had.

Westiemum, I have read your post, but what I am trying to tell you is that there is still a lot of killing that is going on. Figures are not being released and the figures that were released are from accurate. It is a case of not releasing figures because they are simply not much better! I for one do not agree to the killing of so many cats and kittens because the organisation does not have adequate measures in place to contain cat flu. It may be early days but this is a clear breach of the DPI Code. Insted of getting amateurs in there to run this shelter, perhaps it would have been best to get people in who actually know what they are doing! Dogs and cats have been put down prior to their eight days being up, surely this is not something that DOL would applaud. Would DOL applaud the temperament testing being carried our by unqualified people? Then if you can prove these allegations then bitching about it on DOL isn't going to make it stop. Put in a complaint to DPI, write to the Addie and the News.

I think the reason to do just the BOB is threefold. One is to be seen to do the right thing. The next is not to have to vet check 26,000 dogs. And, the most important one, is to make a point, not just to the competitors but also to the judges. They are making the point that judges should not reward extremes.
-
You'd think so but they may have a different system.
-
The judges cant identify exaggerated features.....? Is that an actual question or a criticism?

Will be interested to hear your response! This sounds like fraud. -

Ok To Advertise Puppies In The Classifieds?

Sandgrubber, I have done my fair share of heavily criticising pedigree dog breeders but nowhere in your posts have I ever got that you are one. All your posts are exactly the same, that you can see no good in the show ring, that you can see no good in pedigree dogs at all. Indeed, I thought you were pro-crossbreeding. It isn't my comprehension that's poor. If you can't get your message across without sounding as if you're a member of the opposition then it's your writing construction skills at fault. -
Trouble-maker  It's us "breeders" who will be financing your retirement! Selflessly keeping our economy running with fresh grist for the mill. If your kids will be financing my retirement, I consider it fair return for funding your child care rebates, baby bonuses, and other bribes that successive govts fork out to get your vote. :)

No kill means that any shelter animal that can possibly be rehomed will be rehomed, not pts.
-
Maybe because Dogs are easier to relate to and by far more forgiving when we say something stupid. ;) Grumpy isn't terribly forgiving when I sing to him. Last time he walked out of the room.

Personally, I think this is a snobbish and ambiguous part of the code of ethics. I also think the attitude that often goes along with it is a major reason that pedigree registrations are falling and designer dogs are increasing in popularity. People want a good healthy dog, with predictable temperament and look. Not many want a show dog, and a lot of the people who think they want a show dog go to one show and decide it's not for them. You can rationalise most anything under the rubric of 'improving the quality and/or working ability of the breed'. For a lap dog, being a good pet may equate to being a good working dog! Try and breed away from extreme conformation for health reasons and avoid popular sires . . . say so openly, and you'll be in for a lot of criticism. Yes, yes, we get that you don't like pedigree dogs. You should have a 'repeat button'. -
And very enthusiastic about their Irish dogs, which is great to see. I was quite interested to see the difference between the red and the irish red and white. The red and whites in Ireland, I'm told, are mostly field rather than show dogs.

I have five breeds and have owned two. The reality is that I'm highly unlikely to own at least two of those anyway, though.

What Tv Shows Does Your Dog Like To Watch.
Sheridan replied to pirate's topic in General Dog Discussion
Did poor Mini fall asleep? No, she sat at attention on the arm of the couch, leaning forward, watching very intently. It was fascinating to watch. I don't, however, know on which side of the Labor kerfuffle her loyalties lie. She's not taken much notice of Julia Gillard at all nor indeed, previous to this, Kevin Rudd. -
Whether or not the owners or the council are in the right or wrong, the owners should be allowed to see their dog. That alone is appalling.
