Which is this one, Cowanbree?
-
Bamganie is the Lethbridge one? I can't remember the name off the top of my head. There is a cottage where people can wait. The lady there was lovely and the man who picked up my dog was very gentle. I think the issue for me is, aside from the length of time stated, is that various people in the thread have said they won't use one or the other of the pet cremation services in Canberra but won't say why. If people have had an issue with Pets at Peace or with Paw Bearers, then please say what that issue was.

Yes, it would. Aside from the cost which would make showing prohibitive. Wouldn't matter to some entrants though it might for others. And I ask again if anyone has seen the bulldog DQ certificate?
-
How do you know if you're getting your dog back if it's used for other things?
-
I can drive to Mittagong in two hours. I can drive back in two hours. Given that pound dogs are landfill, there must be an awful lot of other dogs dying and being cremated for it to take a week to ten days (it just gets longer that time).
-
I would expect my dog back the next day at the latest. There is no reason for it to take a week. Indeed, when my last dog was euthanised the pet cremation place near Geelong picked him up in the morning and I picked him up that afternoon. I'm appalled that this place takes a week. I may as well drive 10 hours to Geelong and it would still take less time.

A week?? Seriously! Where the hell do they send your dog that it takes a week.

People who push these kinds of laws seem to know little about dogs yet have the mindset that they know everything about dogs. I don't think they would listen to anyone because they already know it all.

Another Dog Charged Us On Our Walk.. Getting Sick Of It!

Say brightly, 'Oh look <insert dog's name>, lunch!' -
Vehs, can you explain why? With an old dog myself this is something of great concern to me. Happy to receive a PM if you can't put it on the forum. What alternatives are there in Canberra than Pets at Peace? I was passed one day on the road by a Pets at Peace car and I thought, I hope you haven't got someone's dog in the back of that car.

I had a discussion last year with someone from the ACT Govt animal welfare area and he said that people should view the pup in situ. I pointed out that I had got my last three dogs from interstate and the breeders were entirely ethical. Getting a puppy from a local "breeder", using the term loosely, means nothing when that person could simply be a broker for a puppyfarm.

I think the key is buying from an ad without doing any research.

We certainly do Sheridan! Often we are so busy, it is hard to search for them all in one place(apart from DOL) The Dogs Qld magazine for its members used to have a page on which was listed all the breed rescues with contact details. I'm not a member but someone gave me a photocopy of that page. However, over the years, it went out of date. I don't know if they still publish such a list, but it was jolly useful. Was that breed clubs, Mita?

Grumpy hasn't been able to digest bones for several years. I did subsitute pig then bambi ears but he can't have these now either.

Low Cost Desexing And Working Ferrets In Canberra
Sheridan replied to Are You Serious Jo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Don't know of any. I don't think even the RSPCA does low income desexing (probably because everyone in Canberra is apparently on a public service salary). You're probably better off ringing around to get a price after some recommendations (of which mine is Hamish Cameron at West Queanbeyan; Malcolm at Tuggeranong Veterinary Hospital in Fadden is also good). -
PETA isn't mentioned in their list of member societies but Animal Liberation is. Save a Dog Scheme is also a member and they're a long-term highly respectable group. Other than the Indonesia thing, I don't know much about them.

And for those people unable to carry pepper spray? -
So it was passed and failed on exactly the same criteria? No, dogs with ectropion and entropion might be noted as part of an eye test but unless it had resulted in damage to the eye the dog wiuld still be given a clear certificate. However, both those conditions are disqualifying conditions under the Kennel Clubs new breed watch program. I understand the eye certs have different criteria, but I can't get my head around the Bulldog passing at rehearsal under several vets, and then failing on the day. Not, apparently, for a new injury but for a characteristic that would have been evident first time around. That makes it seem like a very subjective process. I'm not against the principle of breeding away from extremes that cause health problems at all, but I find that disturbing. Most things are subjective. What one vet thinks isn't an issue, another vet may think is an issue. Isn't that why we, as pet owners for example, change vets when we don't get the response we want? Judging itself is a subjective process which is why some people won't show under particular judges.
