  1. I hope they don't change their minds when they come to sign him over. Suggest you don't let them see him.
  2. Wow, that Wikipedia article needs severe trimming to cut the bias out of it.
  3. How cute are they! Biewer Terrier
  4. I've said for years on DOL about how pedigree dog breeders should be doing promotion and have been mocked and slammed for saying so. Attempts to get anything underway have been mocked and slammed. It's not the ANKC, it's you. Denials of rudeness to Joe Public and his grubby children at dog shows. An attitude of 'Why should I/WE promote?' blah blah bladdy blah. This conversation happens every few months and still, it's the same complaints over and over.
  5. We did pretty much the same thing with Stumpy Tail they were assessed then allowed on the register. And the story of wheaten terrier Irish Kennel Club recognition is that a bunch of dogs were lined up and someone went along the line and said, 'That one's a wheaten, that one's an irish terrier, that one's a wheaten, that one's an irish terrier ...'
  6. What about the family that adopted her? Have they said they don't want her back?
  7. Wow - assumption much? Unless you know for a fact the dog was sold to these people "sight unseen" how do you know they didn't previously live right next door to the breeder in Queensland and bought the dog then? I've sold dogs all over Australia and also to the USA, doesn't mean I don't want to know if any of mine are in trouble! Hope the breeders do the right thing and if not, hope he finds the home he deserves! Since the owner has been in Canberra since mid 20th century and has confirmed that he bought the pup "sight unseen" ... Nope. Not an assumption. :(Also, for a pedigree staffy, the dog is almost 10kg over the breed standard weight.I am not overly surprised to not have herd back from the breeder, quite honestly. As I said, I am biased, and I tend to be suspicious of all breeders until their action demonstrate that they are ethical and responsible.I personally think that is a very healthy scepticism, and is more people were as sceptic as i am, we'd have a lot less rescue pedigrees. I would never buy a computer solely relying on the shop assistant telling me that it's the best computer ever, so why would I trust a breeder to make any judgment call on what breed/dog suits me best?Considering that a computer gets replaced every few years anyway though, while a dog lives 1-2 decades.Sadly, most people put much more research and consideration into buying a computer though...... Well, I bought a pedigree pup sight unseen then took on another dog from the same breeder also sight unseen. Perfect dogs from an honourable and ethical breeder. You don't like breeders because of what exactly other than some stupid half-assed idea that someone shouldn't buy a dog without seeing it first? I applaud you taking on this dumped dog but you're not going to get very far by dumping on registered breeders especially on a purebred dog forum.
  8. I don't know much about this type of kidney disease but I gather it has a wide variety of causes and the treatment depends on the cause, in the human variety at least. I know, from my own experience, that anaethesitising a dog with renal disease can be dangerous. I would be hesitant given you've said Millsy isn't eating or drinking much.
  9. I would suggest that if you're so afraid that you think you need protection, that you move from the area you live in, hire a bodyguard (which will probably end up cheaper than some of the rare large breeds you're considering), and/or get your fear addressed.
  10. I think soft coated wheaten terrier How do you get that from SWF?
  11. Whether you like it or not, people choose dogs on how they feel about them. Part of that is being attracted to a particular look.
  12. Why do you want a breed that looks intimidating and is somewhat rare?
  13. There are different causes of renal failure though it may be that the vets won't be able to narrow it down. Generally a dog loses around 85% of kidney function before symptoms show. Diet is extremely important in managing kidney disease because keeping your dog eating and drinking will keep him alive.
  14. No it doesn't, but at the risk of offending you, it does make you guilty of generalisation and judging the breed and not the deed. Not every dog that has been bred for dog aggression in the past retains those same characteristics today and each individual should be taken on its own merits. I am far more likely to judge the people WITH the breed and before I will completely avoid a particular dog, I will watch the people who are supposed to be in control of it and engage (or not) accordingly. Of course it doesn't mean that every dog from that breed is aggressive. However, I'm not going to just assume that they're okay and find out that they're not. I know the breed standard for those breeds and what characteristics they should have - those characteristics mean they don't generally play well with my dogs. This isn't offensive or discriminatory, it is about making smart choices for my dogs and not just assuming that every dog is friendly. Do you include some terrier breeds in that?

  16. Cannot choose between wheatens and kerries, the perfect doggy household in my view. Don't know that I dislike any breed. There are some that don't do a lot for me, enough to say I probably wouldn't have one, but I don't know that I actively think about it enough to say, 'I don't like ...'
  17. On whose advice did you start the chinese herbs? A dog with kidney disease should be on a very strict diet. Are you still giving him the herbs, particularly given they don't seem to have worked anyway?
  18. Bumping this topic as the meetings have now taken place. I have learned from the draft code there is also a code of practice for dog breeding being revised. There are no dog breeders on the animal welfare committee and I am lead to believe Dogs ACT have had no input into it.
  19. I've found using logic on illogical arguments tends to fail, Mita.
  20. I was once told that the pressurisation in the animal bay is manual and is switched on by the pilot. It's called the 'dead dog switch'.
  21. Me too, far easier to keep happy! According to that study, my breed came in at a whopping no.48 out of 69. Bah, intelligence is over-rated! I think the study is bollocks.
