  1. Were the Rottweilers papered dogs bred by an experienced Rottweiler breeder who breeds to type or were they BYB's or perhaps crossbreeds?? Not sure what difference this would make?
  2. Bumping this topic because guess who just did an enormous wee in the house?! Right in front of me and on Mini's lounge room bed. He seems very confused by it, poor love. He's gone outside now which, as I said to him, is very barn door horse bolted.
  3. Do you really need to start a new thread each time you have a new thought on your dog's allergies? How many is it now?
  4. Grumpy is nearly six years old than Mini. It's not so much the age gap as the personality that is important. It was very important that in getting a second dog, I not have one who was too boisterous or challenged Grumpy and in these, Mini is Little Miss Perfect. She is cheeky in the things he doesn't care about and submissive in the things he does.
  5. At the beginning of the thread, you wanted their dogs removed.
  6. I think your view is completely WRONG. My wife works with homeless people and these dogs are treated very well, there owners will go without food themselves to ensure the dogs eat and eat well. The dogs always look well and well fed. They are very well behaved, and seem happy and settled pups. I was in the CBD this morning and talked to a homeless gent with 2 dogs and they were in impeccable condition and were so well behaved, i went and got him $50 worth of dog treats for the dogs. And letting the rangers take them they will end up euthanized and thats a great outcome. Not the ones I saw Dave. Matted fur, splotches on underbelly and visible ribs. But maybe most are well looked after. Having said that, I find it difficult to believe most homeless people can access premium foods for their pets as well as quality worm and flea treatments. Most dogs in homes don't get premium foods.
  7. I find it so sad that these people hate dogs so much that they want them extinct.
  8. Look, just set up a poll. First question: should there be a pinned wotami thread on DOL. Second question: which forum should it be in. Should there be a majority in favour, then Troy can be asked to pin a thread. It's quite simple and then this thread doesn't have to devolve into a pro/anti BSL thread.
  9. Keep your dogs away from children then? I would presume having the dogs behind a fence on your property would be considered keeping them away from the children! The dog's clearly not safe and kept away from the children if they are climbing the fence. I find it astonishing that you've turned this into it being the OP's fault for not keeping her dog safe. The dog is in its own yard. The kids have no right to the backyard.
  10. Then perhaps the solution is one thread pinned in the rescue forum so there aren't so many.
  11. I have heard good things about a kennel near Cooma though probably a bit far for most Canberrans.
  12. Completely off topic but there's a shelter that can afford to feed Canidae?
  13. Around 85% of kidney function is lost before symptoms show.
  14. I'm talking about purebred dogs that are hard to identify because they're rare and don't end up in pounds often if at all rather than a guess whatever mix thread.
  15. Occasionally, I get PMs or emails telling me of a possible wheaten or kerry blue terrier in a pound and I've found it immensely frustrating trying to get further information on the dog from rescuers who have access to that particular pound. Ask for photos that would positively identify the breed and rudely get referred to an unhelpful Facebook page where the photos are thoroughly artistic but don't ID the breed at all. I thought about posting an 'Identify the Breed' thread in the rescue but I am not convinced anyone in rescue would take any notice of it.
  16. Do not mess with renal failure. Use a kidney failure specific diet. Do not send off results to anyone other than a canine kidney specialist. Your dog is likely to stop eating sooner rather than later. Do you really want to start experimenting?
  17. She looks like my neighbour's kelpie x. Very pretty!
  18. Mini loves watching telly. She's dead keen on ABC News 24.
  19. No one said this - the FIFO worker in the post is single and will kennel the pup50% of the timep Then you haven't read the posts where it's stated FIFO workers wouldn't get a pup (Greytmate's posts, for example) nor any other thread on the same type of topic. Megan interpreted my post correctly. FIFO workers wouldn't get a pup, I didn't say anything about not supplying a pup to anyone else in their household. Is there a purpose to you being here other than to make snide comments and attempt to twist the meaning of what other people have said? Pot kettle black. But now I'm confused. You wouldn't sell a pup to a FIFO worker but you would to someone else in the household. Really?
  20. No one said this - the FIFO worker in the post is single and will kennel the pup50% of the timep Then you haven't read the posts where it's stated FIFO workers wouldn't get a pup (Greytmate's posts, for example) nor any other thread on the same type of topic.
  21. Should you be doing anything else? First step: help desex and rehome the dog. Next step: ditch the friend.
  22. So let me get this right: according to various posts, FIFO workers are out, military people are out, people who work long hours are out, single people are out, and anyone we just don't like is out. If we keep adding to the list of people never to have a purebred, there'll finally be enough pedigree dogs to go around.
  23. This. Like it or not, people are attracted to different things and this includes dogs. I like my Irish farm dogs and outside of their very attractive looks, the attitude cannot be duplicated by any other breed. I'm pretty sure most pedigree dog snobs would say the same of their chosen breed. And I will note for the rescue snobs, I rescued my dogs from their lives of luxury giving them another life of luxury.
