And look, here's m-sass to tell us how vicious, nasty and aggressive crossbreeds are. So very predictable. The dog in this case is a piece of crap, you know that as well as I do, sure it broke it's collar straining and lunging on the leash to do the deed on an innocent poor old passive dog minding it's business. We know the owner stuffed up and dog owners even the best can stuff up, my point is when we do stuff up with a good stable dog on the end of the leash, this type of needless loss of life and trauma doesn't happen, with a crap dog in this case look at the result Let's have a look at the breeding on this dog oh, a BYB excellently renowned for recorded heritage.....what was this dog's grand father like and what character type is expected of a Mastiff X who knows what.....I will just look that breed mixture up for the character standard Personally I would LOVE to see breeders put under the spotlight and answer the cause to breeding rubbish, putting just anything together with the breeding insight that male and female makes puppies makes me sick, I am over it completely And it may not have anything to do with his background at all because here's the thing, m-sass: you have no idea what this dog's breeding was. Nary a clue. None whatsoever. Unless you know the person concerned, you couldn't possibly know anything other than what has been in the press. Give it up, your posts are nonsensical.

It does sound like that. If he had never attacked anyone why couldn't he be allowed to live with his owners as a restricted breed? Because he might, I believe was their thinking. Some people have no logic.

My view is that once Lennox became a cause celebre, Belfast City Council and whichever bureaucrat was in charge of this area, decided that they couldn't be seen to back down.

Inside Dogs And Geographical Location
Sheridan replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think a lot of it depends on the weather and wildlife. I don't get constant crating but it depends on if you have a destructo dog or more than one dog and they require a lot of supervision. As was mentioned up thread, a lot of American places don't have fences and a lot of rural places in the UK don't have adequate fencing (from my POV anyway). Much of it is cultural.Mine are inside and outside, as seen by the amount of times I have to open the door for them. -
Mystery Illness In 8 Year Old Vizsla
Sheridan replied to SaltyDog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Are you in Victoria, saltydog? Sorry, on my mobile so I can't tell. I would suggest a referral to the Melbourne Uni clinic at Werribee for a specialist opinion. -
Where did this thread go? I couldn't find it for some time. What a lot to tell you. Grumpy's dementia is much the same though physically I have a major update. His back has been getting progressively worse and I began to notice an increase in his drinking over a few weeks. Off we went to the vet and blood test results showed really bad liver results and the initial thought were liver cancer. The urine results were indecisive so they ordered more tests and an x-ray, ultrasounds and two further tests later it came back as Cushing's! He's now started on that treatment and we'll see how he goes.

If someone is doing something wrong and you have this evidence, then report them to the KC.

You think she crossed the road to pick a fight with you? How about she didn't see you or wanted to ask for a meet and greet? You seem to think the worst of people.
-
I don't think people generally go out looking for a fight. I think she thinks you hit your dog.

The dogs were never impounded by the SPCA. Of the 87 (86?) dogs on the property, 65 were rescued by a breeder. They were not aggressive or in poor condition as the media has reported. All of then were fostered out and then rehomed by the breeder. She spent three days taking dogs from the property and was not allowed one more day to take the others by the SPCA inspector. There was no reason not to allow the rest of dogs out but the SPCA would not allow the breeder to take them and the rest were pts. People shouldn't believe everything they read. The only animals they have are few, if any.

Yes, it's very easy to get a front fence ... as long as your council allows you to have one.
-
Maybe, will send you a PM.
-
I think one or a couple of DOLers are vets? If so, can you PM me, please? I have a question about inoculations, particularly standard C3, kennel cough, and heartworm injections. Nothing's wrong, just some info is needed.

Alternative To Zd Dry Dog Food
Sheridan replied to goldenluv's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The short version is that allergies are based on the fact that consuming large proteins causes a huge histamine release in the body - a bit like hayfever, but obviously different. The histamine release is an over response by the immune system.

Proteins with a molecular weight of less than 10,000 daltons generally go undetected by the immune system - so no histamine release.

In Hills z/d, and also RC hypoallergenic, the proteins are hydrolysed down so they have an average molecular weight of 3,000 daltons.

Starches included in the food are either extremely low protein <1% or purified so they contain no proteins.

Some dogs will have chronic gastrointestinal symptoms not because they are allergic to one specific protein, it's due to large proteins causing skin or gut issues. It wouldn't matter what animal protein you tried if the dog's system cannot process large proteins - which is very often the case.

Yes I know all that. I know you did, it wasn't for your benefit. Netiquette 101: when you quote someone you're replying to them. Anyway, the OP hasn't provided any further detail as yet so hopefully, she can get it clarified with the vet. -

sorry not realy, vet just said he is haveing trouble with the animal protein try ZD
his tummy and ear (he repeatedly gets an ear infection in one ear) does well on ZD but he has less energy and has lost coat and at $149 for 11kg
I think it should be better, dont realy care what it cost just want him feeling better
thats why I thought I'd ask if anyone else has tryed something different when told to use ZD

I have tryed to look into it but it get so confusing, alot of the low alergy ones have potato in it like ZD but have found online that white potato is not that good for dogs as its part of the nightshade family and if the dog food people use older potatos its not good
the US has LOTS of different foods chick peas, sweet potato, lentils with fish which I think could be better for him
but we do not get any of them here in Australia

It's hard to recommend a food when you can't explain what the protein problem is. It could be an allergy, it could be intestinal or it could be kidney related. I suggest you go back to the vet and get him to explain to you precisely what is wrong with your dog. Even a raw diet could be bad without knowing what the actual problem is. -

It sounds to me that the AFA doesn't need ANKC assistance at all. -
Vets never get the recognition they deserve. It's lovely to read your tribute.

Why is it okay that they 'barely do any promotion of pedigree dogs and of direct members'. Why does everyone see this as OKAY and is happy to accept it? You'll note I didn't say it's okay nor that it's accepted. Any thread about oodles will contain any number of complaints on this point. Any promotion depends on a number of things: 1. Money. 2. Organisational structure. 3. Those involved in said organisation. 4. People willing to swallow their pride and cooperate. 5. In an organisation that relies on volunteers, goodwill and time. Even now there are pedigree dog people who do not believe that they should do anything to promote pedigree dogs even at a personal level. Do you think the promotion of flyball should be reliant on people who can't be bothered to get up and fight for pedigree dogs? -

To be fair it was also an opportunity for the state bodies to grow their membership in a new direction by activley promoting the sport. They didn't do that and essentially wasted the opportunity. The interest shouldn't be a factor. If your a board members of Dogs NSW you should be acting in the best interests of Dogs NSW. Promoting and actively growing new activities for dogs is part of that. Essentially, the boards of the state bodies were asleep at the wheel and missed and opportunity. State bodies barely do any promotion of pedigree dogs and of direct members and yet you expect them to fork out to promote something that is merely affiliated. Your expectations are rather high for something that barely crosses the radar for most dog people. How is the AFA promoting its own sport? I see nothing that promotes flyball at all. Edit: ping Haredown Whippets. -

Sheridan replied to Jumabaar's topic in General Dog Discussion
The key word there is 'promote'. Not organise. Promote. Whatever sports there are have to fall under their framework. It's up to dog sports to like it or lump it. I say this without judgement on the sports and I agree that as an organisation the ANKC isn't a friend winner but that goes to the people who are in the ANKC, who in turn are in the state bodies. If the state bodies are going 'Not our fault then it should be pointed out that a representative of the state body is on the ANKC committee. You can't go wrong in making friends but with some people and organisations it takes more effort. -
Your rudeness is in posting your views at all. Perhaps you could learn some tact and empathy. A dog the OP knew was killed. You have shown no sympathy or compassion. You have questioned the OP in the most thoughtless way possible. You have blamed the owners for not keeping the dog safe. That's trolling.
