I think the only outcome here is that the pound will now tell people surrendering their animals that they'll get pts.

I can beat that. The other week I arrived home to vomit and dog poo on the carpet!

That's great news!

I'm not sure why those agitating about cost are so stroppy about those who don't care. Stroppy? It's not my problem that your arrogant about the reality of poverty. It's yours. You assume much and know nothing. Let me make it clear AGAIN. My concern about my dog's passing is about my dog only. I understand the dog you're talking about wasn't yours so I don't actually know how you felt about the poor creature other than complaining about the cost. Yes, you're stroppy and now you're just being nasty because you have no clue about anyone's circumstances let alone mine. I'm the one that's stroppy and nasty? Yes. I rarely put newbies on ignore, even the downright ignorant ones, but you, ta ta.

My sympathy, Teebs.

Whenever, we had a barbecue I'd give everyone a lecture not to feed the dog and if I caught them at it, there was hell to pay.

And the irresponsible always have the option of dumping at the pound.

You're obviously not unemployed then. It would make no difference whether I was employed, on a low income or unemployed. I would not shop around to have a family member euthanised as if I was buying a new fridge. Sounds like you've never been unemployed. You have no idea. I'm with Sheridan, and I have been unemployed. It's part and parcel of pet ownership. Penumbra wants people to justify themselves, it seems. I refuse to play.

No idea how much it costs and I don't care. When putting to sleep a beloved family member, money isn't something that factors into my thinking.

I would rule out everything else you can before going to a dog chiro. Grumpy has weak back legs and we thought it was because he fell but it wasn't: he has Cushings. A doggy chiro would do nothing for him. My big example is my first kerry who we took to a doggy chiro and he screamed when manipulated. Nothing wrong with his back, he had an autoimmune disease. So those recommending a chiro, my view is that unless you can confirm that it is an injury, you may be actually causing an injury by taking your dog to a chiro as well as wasting your money.

The essential problem with threads like this is that every single one of them becomes about m-sass not about the issue. It's all about the audience m-sass can get and it seems the more abusive, the better m-sass likes it. I suggest we all deprive m-sass of the audience fix and put m-sass on ignore.

Bit of a Grumpy man update: I ran out of Vivitonin for about a week and a half, couldn't get to the vet, and the change in Grumpy was amazing without it. He got lost in the house a lot. He couldn't work out how to back out of something (he got stuck in the loo!) and he started getting very suspicious about everything. Back on Vivitonin and he's much, much better. We finally ran out of the blue whiting Royal Canin and I've switched to the equivalent Eukanuba, which is herring based, but has pork fat in it, which I was a bit worried about to begin with. Because I ran out of the blue whiting quite quickly I wasn't able to do a proper changeover and gradually introduce the food. I had to do it over two days. So far, I'm not liking the results. He's eating it (well, he eats anything) but he has soft stools and his tummy is gurgling which is indicative of his low-grade pancreatitis and Cushings. I'll have a chat to his vet but I don't think he'll be on it for long!

If he's pacing, it may be the start of dementia. There is a drug called Vivitonin, which has helped my Grumpy a lot. There's also a Hills Prescription Diet food called B/D. Have a look in the Health section for a thread called Doggie Dementia, which Westiemum started, where we talked about our "demented" dogs. It may be that if he's not as active, he's not as hungry. Did they do and x-ray or ultrasound?

Grumpy loves carrot but Mini only takes a bit because she has good manners. Watching her chew a carrot is like watching a cow chew cud.

Not in this thread.

Damage to the gut lining may potentially lead to a loss of protein through the intestine (aka protein losing enteropathy). The owner may want to get a full blood panel done at least every year to be sure. Unfortunately, the fecal API test, which is a non-invasive test done on a poo sample, isn't available in Australia and a definitive diagnosis has to be done via biopsy.

I pay into the vet's account each fortnight to cover bills. Grumpy can be a bit expensive, bless him. This happened to someone I know. Her dog was fine after being on fluids for a few days.

I'm not sure m-sass actually has dogs.

Oh, I picked up you were against it but I just don't know how serious you can be about it and work in a shop that sells animals. [/shrug] Anyway, you don't have to justify yourself to anyone.
-
Haha sorry it sounded that way, no I don't think it is ok at all. I was merely stating that that not ALL pet shops keep 'stocked up' on puppy farm puppies. I would love it if the government banned the sale of puppies from pet shops. I hate having puppies in at my work because of all the naivity of people I have to deal with. I always point people to rescue or registered breeders, and whenever I state registered breeders and try to explain how good they are, people always say "oh but they are so expensive"...no matter what I say Any pointers on getting the message across, please? How serious are you when you think your own question is funny? I have no pointers for you as my morals and ethics would prevent me from working in a shop that sells animals in the first place. I think people who own such businesses know very well the source of their puppies. They are trading on misery. Occasional oops litter, my arse.

I think he wants to have his own business. There is no money in rescue.
