Unfortunately, no access to a pool. I spoke to the vet yesterday and he talked about the fitball exercises and the physio that CleoJ mentioned. We're going to talk in more detail next week.

Any News On Ned Please?
Sheridan replied to grumpette's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I will go out of my way to help a wheaten or a kerry but I don't have the resourcing or the knowledge to help other breeds aside from donating a little money where I can. That might seem a bit rough to some people but I'll point out what happened to Ned as an example of why experienced people are the best for some breeds. -
No sand 'round here.

You have my sympathy. It must be very hard for you. -
Some great suggestions. Thanks everyone! CleoJ, I have PM'd you. I like the simpleness of some of these, though Grumpy, being grumpy, may not take too well to ones involving stretching without someone to help me with him.

How much does this matter to you? Are you willing to break off your relationship with her over this? -
Now that Grumpy has been on his Cushing's medication for a month, I've noticed he's become less "slippy" in his back legs though he still has the Cushing's "sag". I want to start doing some gentle exercise with him to build up strength in his hindquarters. I don't think there are canine physios or a swimming pool I could take him to in Canberra and given his dementia I don't know how he'd go with either of those, though I'd be willing to try if they were available. I was hoping to get some suggestions as to what else I could do as well as some short walks.

Ask her who she's getting the dogs from then report them for not vaccinating and microchipping. Then, ask your sister how much she values your relationship and say if she gets any pet shop or BYB dog and decides to breed from them that you will cut her off completely. -
If, as suggested previously, these were declared dangerous dogs, shouldn't they have been on lead and muzzled in public? I think there's also a particular collar they have to wear. That is, if they were actually declared dangerous dogs.
-
Even if the dog in question is actually a pitbull?
-
Not at all. Well, in that case I have NFI what you're talking about. You stated you don't like the scheme because dogs have to attack to be declared dangerous. Under the proposed scheme dogs do not have to severely attack someone to be declared dangerous. They can be declared 'potentially dangerous' based on threatening behaviour. I don't understand what more you want, other than dogs being declared dangerous because they look a particular way. Puppoochi wants to get rid of the dogs. Sheridan wants to kill Bambi Bambi, see the film, eat the cast. Are you now denying that you want to get rid of all these types of dogs? Your past posts would indicate otherwise.

This is beginning to sound personal. Personal? Yeah I guess I am prejudice against people like this http://www.adelaiden...3-1226422663719 Well, unless that was your dog, that isn't personal, is it.

Well, that was helpful

In what way?

I don't know how much it costs to train a guide dog in Victoria but according to the WA Guide Dogs website, it's around $30,000. That should be the minimum cost of the fine.

For fear they (pet shops) buy from puppy farms ... Dear me, the RSPCA will never get a red cent from me.

Like it or not, other people aren't as dog crazy as DOLers.

It ran onto the road because it was being attacked by the other dogs. So they are directly responsible for the dogs death. The only thing sensational about the title is the reference to pit bulls. The headline actually says "Guide dog killed after being ambushed by pit bulls in Bellfield in Melbourne's northeast" This is true, but what if it was something else that had startled the dog? It wouldn't even have made the news then. Say it was a windy day and there was a tarp that suddenly moved, the dog startled and jumped into the road. My dogs have almost done this on several occasions. What if it had been a golden that suddenly jumped out from behind a corner and startled the dog? Other than the pit bull type dogs involved, it's not even worth reporting. Oh FFS. Because no pitbulls has ever responsible for even looking sideways at another dog or person, don't you know.

Any News On Ned Please?
Sheridan replied to grumpette's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I think everyone wanted to help Ned. No one likes to see an old dog dumped by owners who can't be arsed dealing with him. I agree that the original owners should have done the right thing by Ned instead of instigating the tragedy of errors that then ensued. Ned may have done very well in a single dog home with an experienced GS owner but we won't know that now because no one seems to have tried that. The assumption always seems to be that a dog will be okay in a multi-dog home and that isn't always the case. Thank you to efowler for giving him his wings.
