I'll just point out as gently as possible that DOL has a fair number of people working in science. Reverend Jo is one of them. You tread on shaky ground when you challenge a scientist without evidence and only on emotion and sources found on Wikipedia.

Skye Terrier In Blacktown Pound

http://www.dolforums...fault/smile.gif Well said !!! They are a dog that may quite easily end up on the wrong roundabout As can any dog. I'll again point out that rescue DOLers have whinged mightily about pedigree dog breeders not taking back their dogs. I've whinged about it; I whinged about it yesterday in a thread in general. Here is a dog that should be going to a breeder because those breeders know breed inside out and now rescue is saying that hey, it doesn't matter anymore. A dog can go anywhere and to anyone. Why doesn't it matter? Well, who knows. -

The argument that any home not the right home smacks of Pound Rounds to me. -

And you've had how many rare breeds? Does it matter? What's with the theory that a general member of the public who adopts a dog from the pound can't be a kind and decent pet owner? Just because the dog in question is a relatively rare breed, doesn't mean that the first person on the list to adopt it is less likely to give it a good home. T. It does to me. To those guardians of rare breeds it is of vital importance where one of their number ends up rather than thinking that as long as a dog has a home that's okay rather than having the right home for that breed. You think someone in rescue would care about that but your :D would indicate you just don't give a shit or just don't have any understanding of what it's like to have one of the rare breeds. Well that is drawing a pretty long bow, Sheridan. It isn't as though the dog in question is a 70kg guardian dog. If it matters so much to you, perhaps put your money where your mouth is and set up a breed specific rescue. Or have you already done that? What, because the dog is small and cute, it doesn't warrant the same concern in rehoming as a LGD? What an extremely ignorant post. -
Not having a go but would like to say that if you walked passed my house you would see my dogs in the (fenced) front yard and you also wouldn't see them being walked. I drive my dogs to where I walk them and quite often I take one at a time as I do one on one training, so I am driving back and forward twice. Sorry, just want to put it out there that just because you don't see dogs walking in your area, doesn't mean that they aren't being walked somewhere. I have a SBT and a rescue mutt and live in a house we are renovating, so people often think that young 'bogans' live at the house, when we are a middle aged couple whose kids have left home. People are very quick to judge. My dogs are kept out the back when we aren't home and left to roam around the whole house when we are there. We do lock the front gate. Quite a few people here leave the dogs out the front for security and I can understand why, but my dogs are too important to me to risk anything happen to them. Including someone chucking over bait into the front yard where your dogs are free to roam?

We tell people that responsible breeders take back their dogs. That's what sets responsible breeders apart from the BYBsand the puppyfarmers but it seems unlikely from examples given in this thread.

I was notified that a wheaten was at a pound (Renbury, I think). I emailed immediately and put my name down even though there was no photo then rang to confirm they received my email. He turned out not to be a wheaten on seeing his photo. I emailed them back and withdrew my name. The lesson is, don't wait, don't negotiate, just stick your name on the dog. -

Shouldn't the pound reinstate your original EOI then? -
Particularly when so many are clearly generic brown bitsas.

Yes, you did offer, Juice. I was under the impression Shmoo had sorted it out with glemhaith and everything was in place? -
I don't think people are denying that pedigree dogs can end up in pounds. I know of one dog that was definitely a pedigree dog but was listed as a cross by the pound. As they said, no papers, no pedigree.
-
You mean pure breds? Or were they all surrendered with pedigree papers? Whats with the nit picking? They were purebred dogs, how would I know what they were surrended with. I'm just a member of the public making an observation. There is a difference between a pedigree dog (which comes with papers) and a dog that looks like a purebred dog. I would posit that most dogs in pounds are not pedigree dogs if only because pedigree dogs make up a very small percentage of the dog population as a whole. Hence the nitpicking. See above.

Blacktown, which is in Sydney. Hopefully, but what are the odds. -

Perhaps so but you'd hope that the logic of breed specific expert adoption would apply before Mr and Mrs Joe Bloggs. But then logic so rarely applies these days. -

I sincerely hope it's the EOI that the skye breeder put on that is the first in line. -

I thought the breeders were taking him, after glemhaith posted, and Shmoo was taking him, if not. Why are the breeders not taking him? Updated given new info. -

I have been wondering too. i can't stop thinking about the little guy. I keep imagining him sitting on the couch with DeeDee and playing on the lawn with us. Sounds like a match made in heaven, Arcane. Don't let interstate adoption put you off. Both my dogs came from interstate, albeit not rescues. -
You say destruction needs to be dealt with effectively but carbon monoxide poisoning is effective. You may not like it but it is effective. I don't have another solution and I am assuming you don't either otherwise you'd be in the introduced pest eradication business.

I'm not entirely sure what point you're making. Are you suggesting that we should not try to save either native habitat or native animals by controlling feral animals? If you're not, what would you suggest?

Any idea how the little guy is doing? -
I wondered that but whether she's been out by herself or has been abused there was human involvement. She didn't force her way out of that pen.

AGREE 100%
But some people would judge a dog aggressive on size alone. Ironic, no?
