Yes. I think that it's a very subjective thing, everyone will have different ideas of what THEY believe is ethical and will look for a breeder who matches this. I certainly don't have anything against registered breeders who don't do all the things I would like done, I just wouldn't get a puppy from them. Part of the problem is that CC registered breeders have a code of ethics - yet many of them don't really know what they say and what they have agreed to and those in the public decide what they think is ethical and expect that everyone else will be and think the same way. no one has any right to have an expectation on a registered breeder for anything that's not in their code of ethics. that's all they agreed to and all they are held accountable for . Ask people to define ethical and you dont get the same answer from anyone same with the term reputable. When people make up their own ethics unless there is an accountability process many of them will justify doing something outside of that if they think its better for attaining their goals some of them will have higher and lower standards - no amount of laws will help that. A breeder would have to follow the ANKC Code of Ethics as a minimum. I have certain add-ons after that.

I presume that students aren't being forced to destress via puppy so I'm not sure why you're objecting. Objecting? Expressing an opinion isn't necessarily objecting. Opinion. It is bloody ridiculous that a puppy hugging station should seen as a necessary crutch for those who fail the the first test of life in the real world. Actually, before they even experience the real world. If they can't handle the stress of preparing for their future, what sort of a future do they have? ''Life wasn't meant to be easy".....Pall Bearer What's the next move if a puppy happens to bite one of these stressed future ''leaders''? The mind boggles. Okay, whatever.

Glemhaith, you're new to DOL, so you may not be aware of rule that says popular rescues must come with photos ... :D -
Seriously? What relevance is this? I'm saying that we don't know what past experience people have had with dogs. Some may have very good reasons for not wanting to associate with them. Some people may have been attacked or witnessed an attack and some may have come from countries where rabies is a problem. This is an Internet forum not a university seminar and I don't have any articles or studies to support what I say, so please don't start beating me up for what you consider to be a sloppy use of language or a lack of academic research. I am just giving an opinion FWIW. I am not 'beating up' on your because you haven't done your research, I am simply astonished at the choice of examples you have used.

Great news! I am so very pleased he's with Skye people. Well done! -
I've seen thundershirts in Pet Stock. I've not considered one for Grumpy but then he's not fearful, he's just grumpy.

Best wishes, Glemhaith, hope to hear he's yours. -
No, perhaps not, but I'll say that dementia is not a death sentence. There are medications, food and various supplements that lessen the effects, hence my suggestion to come into the dementia thread. Being grumpy at the vets is not a death sentence because vets are used to grumpy dogs. Is her aggression caused by her medical problems? I can't comment on Sally's various lumps and bumps but I would get these checked out. Grumpy has various fatty lipomas and sebaceous cysts and they have no impact on him. They may have on her. Is her wobbly back end the cause or is she just a grump in general? I'll say that Grumpy is a grump in general and he's very independent. I was immensely offended a little while ago when someone told me to put Grumpy to sleep because of his wobbly back end. So, the thing I won't do is tell you to put Sally to sleep because she's not my dog and I haven't the right.

Thanks, but my dog has excellent quality of life.

Doggy physio at the Emergency Vet in Fyshwick, Canberra. -
Arcane, come join us in the Doggie Dementia thread. Sally sounds a bit like Grumpy. He gets muzzled at the vet. The last time he had an anaesthesia was when he was 15 and he pulled through okay though he was very wobbly. He was sedated for an ultrasound a few months back and again was quite wobbly afterwards. I would get a geriatric assessment done, with a full blood panel to see where she's at. Her hindquarters sound like they're going, as Mr Grumps are (due to his Cushings Disease). Certainly, the Vivitonin has helped with his dementia and he's on Rimadyl and Trilostane. Westiemum also feeds her Mac, with whom Grumpy shares the dementia thread, the Hills B/D, which has helped. It did Grumpy some good also but due to the pancreatic aspect of Cushings he had to go back on a fish diet. The other thing to suggest is ask the vet if there is a doggy physio near you. Grumpy sees one every month and he has become less wobbly since and has found it easier to get up. There are exercises you can do to strengthen the back end from the physio, too. I also have non-slip matting around the house, the sort that goes under hall runners. It's very easy to chuck in the washing machine and I use a cloth tape from Bunnings to hold it down. Grumpy also has bad eyesight due to his age and I have cut the hair well away from his face and I have sensor lights in strategic spots around the house for him if he gets up at night. I think you have done an amazing thing to take Sally on and whatever you decide, you have my support.

Because the courts are useless... True dat.

Why is she allowed to have one dog?

Grumpy thinks the majority of my our queen size bed is the best place for him. I'm lucky if I get a couple of inches ...

There are three books for wheaten terriers. Two are by Maureen Holmes, acknowledged as the 'founder' of the breed (i.e. got the breed recognised by the Irish Kennel Club). Her books are 'The Wheaten Terrier' and 'The Wheaten Years', this latter being an update of her first book. Admittedly, I like the cover of The Wheaten Years because it has Newkilber the Quiet Man on the cover and my Grumpy is his image. The other one of interest is 'The Complete Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier' by Roberta Vesley, which brings in a lot of the American history. Certain wheaten afficionados turn their noses up at the American side of the history but to be a completist, it is a decent book.

Someone has a little toy! And someone is quite a savage little resource guarder ! It is MY Toy.... Oh yes, very much. You'll have to be careful that DeeDee doesn't try to take something Miss Sally wants. -

Having Trouble Sourcing Hills Prescription Diet

Except when they change the formula, which they did on the RCH that Grumpy ate. The Hypoallergenic wasn't a replacement, it was a separate product. -
yes Mac's dementia sure hasn't affected his ability to sniff out quality blue cheese at 500 paces... Grumpy's nose isn't working as well now. The vet did ask whether he had a hearing loss and I said, 'Well, he's always been selectively deaf.'

Probably, westiemum. It shits me off because people's dogs are on this food for a reason. -

I wonder if it's Hills or AQIS? -
Very funny moment just now. Grumpy was staring into space when I said, 'I'm doing treats.' He snapped out of his daze pretty darned quickly.
