Yes, wolves have yellow / amber eyes, so do a lot of Anatolians. I actually like the look of the black mask with yellow eyes. So I'm biased. But I do know that most breeds prefer medium to dark brown eyes. Lovely photo, lovely dog. Do most guardian breeds have lighter eyes? I'd think, again in terms of dog jobs, they'd want to be seen so lighter eyes would be an advantage, whereas in earth dogs, lighter eyes would be a disadvantage.

Some of it will be where they're from, though, like with blue in huskies. Or is that malamutes?

Why Don't Parents Teach Their Kids How To Treat Dogs?
Sheridan replied to ann21's topic in General Dog Discussion
Interesting response to a child's question ... Kids ask to learn .. and if they know nothing about how dogs operate , then asking and getting honest answers will help a lot! I have no sympathy for feral children. -
I do recall something that said it was a deep seated primal instinct against yellow eyes because wolves have yellow eyes (do wolves have yellow eyes?).

Given their job as a badger hunter, the badgers would see the white?
-
I imagine it has to do with their job and well as where they're from. Darker eye colours would be better for dogs that go to ground like terriers. The less your prey sees you, the better. At least, that's what I've read.

Jelly, I suggest you have the students and daycare ring you immediately if something happens.

Vivitonin wasn't really working for Grumpy at the end and because the dosage is weight based, he couldn't really have more. I was going to try Cholodin but he just wasn't coping by himself anymore. And he couldn't have B/D cos it was too fatty for him.

How very cute.

I think there was a follow on tweet that said he'd been reunited with his owners.

because the country of origin say so. Ah, the 'just because' reason. My link As evidenced by numerous paintings and drawings from the 1700s and 1800's, as well as historical documentation in Emily Cain's Poodle History Project, the parti color was once common in Poodles; however, sometime around the turn of the 20th century, Poodle clubs in England and the United States chose to prohibit all but solid-colored Poodles in the conformation ring. As there is no written rationale given for this decree, it is reasonable to believe that it was done simply at the whim of those in power at the time. Looks like JulesP was right on the money.

They can be Limited Registered if they crop up in a Main Registered litter. They just can't be obviously be used for breeding within our and other registries. My take on it is... the op should have taken notes of lines known to carry the "parti" gene and rally up others who also like the gene and either create another registry or lobby for the dogs with that colouring to be accepted eventually into the ANKC registry. Thats right Parti coloured poodles can't be used in a breeding program here in Aust. I also put this link in the other thread.. this is the breed standard. http://www.ankc.org....ls.aspx?bid=196 It clearly lists parti colours as a fault. Why breed dogs for obvious faults...other than your own person preferance...she said she imported a couple....and the other reason is.....$$ Why is it a fault?

Sure, but why?? That's what I want to know. Because some old biddy or bloke yonks ago decided that they didn't like them. In the absence of an explanation from a poodle person, I will assume this to be the reason.

Outside of the breeding aspect of the previous topic, which I didn't read at all, why can't parti poodles be registered? Is it a health thing? Some reason why a parti poodle wouldn't be allowed to do the job for which the poodle was originally bred? Or is it just one of those irritatingly stupid no reason for it ANKC things?

Why not? Anyone reading this thread can see that I am coming to the decision of putting my dog to sleep, making me feel guilty by telling me I've not done my best by her serves no purpose and doesn't help her or me. But of course, you haven't really read the thread, or you would know that I only have one dog, and that the other dog described was the dog of a different poster. You would also know that my dog hasn't been in pain for 8 hours a day for some time, she has been reasonable successfully medicated until recently. Voicing your opinion by saying I should consider putting her to sleep for her welfare is great, constructive feedback. Saying "it stinks that you can't see that" and laying the guilt on me when I'm struggling through a very painful and difficult decision and trying to make the right one is pretty poor human behaviour in my opinion. I have read the entire thread, I was commenting on both dogs, yours and the other posters. I'm entitled to my opinion, and I still stand by saying what you've done is not in the dogs best interests, simple. If you're having a hard time, I'm sorry, but my concern is for the dog. And repeating the rudeness doesn't help, it only cements it. I don't think your concern is for Jelly's dog at all. You just seem to want to be right.

So you also know this dog. pfffft. This dog can be handled by anyone. It has been handled by others at the AHF also. So when did you see the dog in question. Cheers I think NotMidol's point is that you actually may not be talking about the same dog. I realise you seem to be quite invested in whichever dog you mean but please, your hostility is entirely useless here and off topic.

I can't offer any solutions for you nor advice on medication and behaviouralists but you have my sympathy. Please let us know what you decide.

What about an apprentice system, like electricians, etc? That people have to be qualified and go through an apprenticeship process and prove they are qualified to get a job in a grooming salon or own a mobile groomer? Would still need to be policed, of course.

Well, what I'm reading from all of this is forget about going after PR. Go after the pounds that release dogs to them.
-
And this sort of question is why I object to the stupid term pet quality, as if the dog is somehow lesser for being a pet. I'm with Aussie3. I'm more concerned about what the kids are doing than the dog.

Um not sure what you mean by what is wrong with us all but it appears to me that you are agreeing with us anyway. Possibly some sarcasm there?

"we Hate Breeders - We Call Them Greeders"

how do we go about it to make them act? and how do we police those who bypass their state's laws? And therein lies the rub... if the peple who are supposed to be policing the laws can't be arsed to do it, what recourse do we have? T. Because as with BSL, they can say there is a law because bringing in laws fixes everything to do with dogs. #sarcasm -

Actually I think there are Breeders who do all the right things and deserve the respect and there certainly are greeders, they pump out byb dogs, and designer breeds with no health testing or vision. Their only aim is to make money. So call greeders, grubs or puppy farmers, anything to distance them from real Breeders. This. The general public often doesn't make a distinction between breeders who are breeding to the standard, health-testing, researching pedigrees ect and those who whack two dogs together to make a quick profit. They both "breeders" to them. Yep. Also, to a member of the general public, breeders rehoming dogs looks like they have no need for them anymore. Whilst I understand why breeders do this and don't have an issue with it, it's not something I could ever do, i.e. give away or rehome one my my dogs, because they are like my family, so I can see why a lot of people see that as a negative thing. If the two breeders I got dogs from had decided that I wouldn't have got Grumpy or Mini. I, for one, am grateful that breeders feel some dogs could do better in other homes. -

It is idiotic to say 'Let's stop breeding until we rehome all the dogs that need to be recycled' (as if they're plastic, good grief ... ) because what you end up with is no dogs at all. Ethical pedigree dog breeders already 'control' the number of dogs they breed so there is no need to come here and give pedigree people a lecture. Go ring up BYB and puppyfarmers on Gumtree.
