  1. The suggestion is that dogs are being deliberately harmed to get a docked tail. An entire litter of puppies with broken tails? Sounds dodgy to me. If there is such evidence then it should be presented.
  2. Then counter with that dogs that are imported can still be shown. Locally bred dogs need to comply with local laws. I find it disturbing that people may be deliberately harming puppies just to get a docked tail and frankly if they are doing this, they should be banned from breeding and showing.
  3. I would be fascinated to see the kerry blue temperament test. Do please send it along. My bet is that not only a there few breed specific temp tests, they're not used by the majority of pounds.
  4. The problem with any temperament test is that it fails to take into account breed type.
  5. Shouldn't the only dogs that are docked these days be imports?
  6. The council will step in if the media makes a fuss.
  7. It's a good start though I think it should be taken to court and I'm curious why it isn't. And Caz, I really do understand about getting teary over little things. I burst into tears one day when I saw a photo of Grumpy online that I wasn't expecting to see. They leave such a hole.
  8. It is actually what stops me from doing an 'escape to the country'. Would love to live rural (but close by a town for decent broadband) but eeeek, snakes.
  9. No idea to be honest, no one has been able to give me a straight answer. Some old biddy didn't like them. Yep. And I bet she had them and didn't win so the colours had to go.
  10. Yep. My two that were bitten are rough coat JRTs. One was bitten on the snout twice, the other was bitten on the neck twice. The bleeding was pretty obvious but we saw the strikes happen, and very quickly, so we didnt muck around. Just took them straight to the emergency vet and it wasnt until we were halfway there that I noticed the blood. It just all happened so fast. And yours were suburbia, weren't they Raz?
  11. Not to take away from the moron owners who have DA dogs and allow them out but why were the other dogs out? Bit confused about that. Were they being walked?
  12. Curious to know if the Puppy Bar ones can be made to be removable?
  13. Okay, take the kerry blondes as an example. I have never seen one. The only reason I know there have been some is because of that photo. Most kerry people would never have seen one. Something can't be part of a breed standard if it's so rare as to be near non-existent. For all I know, they're wheaten crosses (though this is highly unlikely given the genetics of the wheaten coat colour).
  14. Sure, but how many Joe Averages look at a dog and think that's a <insert dog breed here> outside of the obviously popular ones? I mean, I look at the photo of the kerry blonde and despite the colour, that's a kerry. Shape, conformation, that's a kerry, but that's because they're my breed. I would think for the vast majority of people, including the doggy fanciers on DOL, it doesn't matter that kerries are only supposed to come in blue.
  15. I think for many kerry blue and wheaten fanciers, the colour isn't an issue because they come in blue and they come in wheaten. Coat quality - correct coat - is the bigger argument in wheatens, especially. Raging, enemy making divisive arguments. However, I have posted this before, but my favourite mismark in my breeds is the kerry blonde. They have also come in tri-colour and black and tan (these latter were killed).
  16. Sounds like things are looking up for you and Roo, Jelly!
  17. It appears that people of this religion MAY be more likely to view dogs a unclean or whatever as their religion seems to imply that they are/may be. Why does everybody always hit the roof when statements regarding people's nationality or religion are made? People constantly make general statements about groups of people, is it suddenly illegal to do so if they are Muslim/black/somehow "different"? Because people are generalising that all muslims have the same 'culture', which is untrue, and a lot of these things are regional not cultural or religious.
  18. Given their job as a badger hunter, the badgers would see the white? Sealyham Terriers may be in trouble if that was the case! Like Diva said earlier, our breed is fortunate to have all colours allowable. However under FCI standard blue and chocolate are disqualifying faults. And even our standard specifys dark eyes and eye rims dark - which should discount dilutes. It also says specifically that eyes should not be light - just in case there is any confusion! Dilutes can appear in the breed, albeit rarely. I have seen a couple of blue eyes and what appears to be dilute pigment/light eyes in others. I woudn't think a hound with dilute pigment and light eyes would be as suited to working in extremely cold climates and over snowy plains like Borzoi originally did. But then I've often wondered about blue eyes in Siberian Huskies in the same sense. Could they be prone to sun/glare damage? So would wheatens but my understanding is badgers have poor eyesight and focus on smell and light they can see. Dog eyes have a particular light to them, in my non-scientificy view. Wheatens, kerries, and sealys, have a fall of hair over their eyes, which allows them to get in first strike.
