I think, Joz, that if you're dog walking you'd need to do all these things separately, that is, walk your dog separately, walk RSPCA dogs separately, and walk client dogs seperately. I doubt the RSPCA would allow it because of insurance purposes. They'd not want to be sued (and neither would you!) if something went wrong. Certainly, dog walking for the RSPCA would gain you good experience and something you could list on your CV for future clients.

I've not been able to find anything on 'Charlie' at all aside from that photo, not even something to indicate he was actually the 'face' of the Million Paws Walk.

Such a beautiful tribute, kayla1, to your special boy. Hugs.

That's great. I once suggested a Celtic breeds show or display for a particular festival and the committee had no interest.

I guess its easy to pick a dog up and look after it off site than it is a horse - but Im guessing . Around here they come in and give you a list of things to do to fix the situation and if it isnt done they take the animal - makes no difference what species it is. Are you familiar with the Penderlea Common horses that the RSPCA is apparently investigating? As far as I'm aware, not one has been impounded. It's not that hard to get a float, I'd have thought, at least for an animal welfare organisation.

Brilliant story, thanks for sharing it.

I still dwell on if only. My dog wouldn't touch the kidney food at all. Then I just tried to get him to eat anything and that didn't work either. He went downhill very quickly, 3 weeks from diagnosis to when he was pts. That's still longer than his litter sister who died at the same time. With her it was a week. The day he died, he did eat. It was half a tic-toc biscuit. A pink one.

It's hard enough to cope when it doesn't happen suddenly.

Such a relief for you!

I suggest that as the dog is dead then that seems to have been a bit of a fail then. -

dasha, you seem to have missed the point that the nurse left the room leaving the anaesthetic unmonitored. -
If they've been destroying horses for the RSPCA for 40 years surely there would be invoices?

Let us know what the vet says.

Joz is one determined young man and good on him for it.

Oh but the grooming!
-
Yes, depends on the type of coat. Not just the length of coat but the type. Size of the dog doesn't matter.

I had a dog who was very lumpy. Generally nothing to worry about but they were quite horrible to look at.

It says they could apply for a temporary licence, possibly at a reduced price. I checked the current (2013) draft LEP for my council and there was absolutely no mention of requirements for boarding/training establishments except to mention restrictions in a special case where a boarding kennel had been proposed for a residential area. I sent an e-mail asking for more specific information. Doesn't that assume they will be policed cos we all know they won't.

Rehoming A Dog Interstate – Brisbane To Victoria
Sheridan replied to LDH's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Most of the dogs are held at the Lost Dogs Home (not all, but most of the suburbs who seize the most dogs use the LDH as a pound service). The LDH gets around $300 for the eight days they impound dogs for councils when they operate as a pound. Some of these dogs seized under BSL have been held for months and months, into a year or more. If the LDH holds a dog for say, 4 - 6 months, which seems to be about average for cases to work through VCAT and the courts, that means the LDH would receive something like $4500 - $6750 for each dog they have impounded under BSL. They'd be making upwards of $13,000 for a dog they hold for a year. Even if the dog goes back to the owner, the LDH wins because the council still pays the bill. The LDH sit on all of the companion animal welfare committees advise the DPI on legislation, and of all the major animal welfare agencies in Victoria, the LDH are the ONLY one which is absolutely in favour of BSL. I'm sure the financial incentive is important to them, but above and beyond that, by supporting BSL they encourage the idea that there is a population of "bad" dogs who aren't safe in the community, and that helps them justify their excuses for the LDH's high kill rates. I'm sure I don't need to repeat my opinion of LDH to those in this forum. Everyone has heard it before ... ;) That's appalling, melz. Utterly disgusting that because a dog looks a particular way, a family is treated as criminals. Actually worse because at least criminals have visiting rights. Agreed totally Sheridan. I can't imagine how I'd feel if it were my dog. Some had been held for over a year before being released (or killed, as Bobo was). From what I understand Rocket's owners still don't know where he is and he'd be coming up to a year now. Aphra I agree totally with your post and assessment or why LDH love BSL so much. I think there is a FB page for Rocket? I think that's accidental. Admittedly, I blinked when I first saw it ... -

Both are very beautiful, pockets. I am so very sorry this has happened to you and to the family. -
+ 2 I think you would need to only walk client dogs. That doesn't mean you shouldn't get a breed of your own, just that you should concentrate on walking client dogs on each walk. If I was a client, I would ask what experience you have with dogs as I would look for someone who is really aware of everything around them. Is this the initial business that you want to lead to owning a kennel?

That would be it, I assume. However, I will also assume a certain amount of arse covering will be going on. I think they will deny saying such a thing. -

My understanding is that if a dog is impounded the family can't even visit. Is that correct? What the hell is the thinking behind that one?
