  1. Firstly, if the animals that she has been charged over have been treated by her vet then that's her defence. Secondly, regarding the latest 'other shelters' post, has anyone asked what other shelters they are? I've not heard of any shelter in Vic being closed down by the RSPCA.
  2. The thing that bemuses me is that the RSPCA guy on site says dogs are suffering from smoke inhalation and he has to get them off to the hospital. Well, stop gabbing at the bloody camera and leave.
  3. Had he not been involved I wonder if Lola would be being charged (if she's being charged at all).
  4. The family no longer need help, it seems, because the dog is at DAS. http://www.tams.act.gov.au/city-services/pets/keeping_dogs_in_the_act/lost,_found,_impounded_and_wanted_dogs/impounded_dogs?sq_content_src=%2BdXJsPWh0dHAlM0ElMkYlMkZ3d3cuZG9tZXN0aWNhbmltYWxzLmFjdC5nb3YuYXUlMkZJbXBvdW5kLmFzcCUzRkFjdGlvbiUzRFVQRF9JUCUyNlBvdW5kSWQlM0QzMzU0NiZhbGw9MQ%3D%3D
  5. Looks like $4.00 is the general price. It's that at Vet n Pet Direct, too. Do you have to give her two cans of the wet? Could you give her one and more of the dry? Very pleased to hear she's doing better. Let us know what the bloods say when she's retested. Are you getting copies of the tests?
  6. I agree with keeping pets safe (obviously) and reminding people to do that. I don't believe in continuously associating breeds with dog fighting rings that there are no evidence of. Seems ridiculous to me for people to not just jump to conclusions but to also share articles where MP's are quoted as saying Staffies and crossbreeds are vicious and aggressive. You asked what you should do. I said keep your dogs safe. And that by telling you to keep your dogs safe, I didn't need to resort to implying it's because your dogs are going to get ripped limb by limb by 'vicious and aggressive' Staffies. It's a commentary on the articles. You need a lesson in the use of pronouns then.
  7. The fact that it's misinformation that is circulated at the expense of an already maligned breed? There's a way to educate that doesn't do this and those methods should always be supported above the ones here. Nic.B, keep your dogs safe. There, I encouraged you to do so without calling Staffies and crossbreeds vicious or aggressive, or insinuating that all they're good for is dog fighting rings. I don't think Jade or Nic.B did that.
  8. Mini went through a period last week where she refused to eat out of her bowl. I put her food down on a piece of paper.
  9. Guess for dogs who are dead keen on liver treats, they'll just have to do without from now on.
  10. Hence the word 'proposed'.
  11. Fortekor is often prescribed for various renal diseases as it enables water retention and prevents protein loss. The issue with a home made diet is ensuring the correct balance, particularly the right protein balance and ensuring low phosphorous. There are vets in the US who will do a homemade renal failure diet at a cost. The ongoing issue with these is when the levels change, the diet has to change. Playful, did the vet say what type of kidney disease it is? This may help when commending a diet.
  12. Actually, I wonder if the Office of the Privacy Commissioner might have a view on the proposed legislation?
  13. How very sad and yet uplifting at the same time that Nic.B was able to give May love, peace and dignity on her last day.
  14. I don't know about shedding but what about a field or Sussex spaniel? They're mid size. Mind you, once bitten by the wheaten bug, it's very hard to shift away from them.
  15. Hah, just the look in his eyes says 'Why are you taking a photo instead of patting me?'
  16. Depends on the dog but my sister's irish terrier sheds a fair bit.
  17. KC's not after a pup right away so that might work well. Don't know about shedding.
  18. Bless you Sheridan for your usual constructive, supportive, positive, caring and nourishing posting. You are an example to us all. Providing a once off $100 to someone rescueing a dog is helpful but only in the short term. You may not like that but it's the truth. You're going to be all 'I helped kelpiecuddles rescue this dog!' but it's not you who are going to be left with the vet bills. It is obvious from her posts, that Kelpiecuddles is fully cognizant of the pitfalls of veterinary bills and is seeking as much information as she can prior to making any decisions. Very wise. So why be so negative? Just because you have incurred vet bills that have taken a while to pay off doesn't mean someone else can't rescue a dog. And yes, of my 18,927 posts in the over 10 years of been a member of DOL (now 18928 with this one), I think 18,925 of them have been bragging about how I donated to save a dog's life. Oh, I wasn't being negative about kelpiecuddles, I was being negative about you. I know - it has been so for many years and, you want to know something, I couldn't care less except it becomes soooooo boring. I will continue to help where I can and be supportive and positive if I can. Unlike you. Until I disagreed with you about something in recent months and you've taken the opportunity to snipe at me since, I wouldn't have a clue who you are. I don't recall your previous moniker or anything that you've said about any topic at all in the past. Hate to disabuse you of your notions that we have an ongoing dispute going back years but I really have no clue what your issues are. As to being helpful, I don't think offering $100 and letting someone else cope with ongoing vet bills is actually helpful. I'm believe kelpiecuddles is sensible enough to make a decision without limited financial incentives. Ta ta then.
  19. Different personality, though. There was a recent thread about them in General. They need hand stripping.
