It's now been a year since my darling Grumpy man left me and Princess Mini. We miss him every day. This is a photo of him aged around three years old. Same unimpressed look he used to give me.

Dogs Get 3rd Degree Burns At A Canberra Groomers
Sheridan replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
I feel quite sad about Dogworld. I used to take Grumpy there for daycare for a while when Storm owned it and they used to take such good care of him. The last few times I've been there to use the hydrobaths the staff couldn't possibly be qualified groomers just because of their ages. And it was quite grimy. Wouldn't go again unless it changed hands. Part of the sale contract should have been to change the name. -
My sister's irish terrier sheds like the clappers. I am still getting irish terrier hairs out of my car years after he was last in it. Irish terriers need A LOT of exercise. A small walk, as I said, will not do.
-
I grew up with an irish terrier and have had several wheaten terriers. I would advise against the lady getting either breed despite her being still young. Firstly, they are both large breeds, around knee high, and are highly energetic. A small walk per day and a play in the yard will not do either breed. They are still energetic up to old age, so if they live to around 15, they'll still be highly energetic up to 13-14. My last wheaten did not slow down until he got Cushings at 14 and even then he was still into everything. My sister's irish terrier is around 13 now and he jumps, runs, plays football, and is still the most energetic dog I've seen. You cannot take the jump out of a wheaten or an irish no matter how much training. I would suggest a smaller dog at least.

Haven't seen this posted on DOL anywhere and am curious to know what it will mean for rescue in the ACT. [/url] The ABC news report said, I think, that the new facility would be ready in 2016.

And if the RSPCA had no intention of going there, no one will believe them so he wins again. I'm no RSPCA fan yet I feel sorry for them. -

I wonder what the legal team thinks? -
Google may be your friend in this regard.

Average Joe who wants a puppy won't care. Guy next door won't care. Authorities will not police the newspapers, Facebook, signs at the local shops, they will not be policed at all. The only people who will be policed are those doing the right thing already whether that's registered breeders or puppyfarmers.

Awl Ipswich Suspended Until Further Notice

It would be interesting to know how many were pts while the RSPCA were there as compared to AWL. -
Sorry, do I have this right? You're with a NSW great dane rescue and they're complaining you won't rescue a crossbreed from Queensland?

It only affects them if they take donations from my understanding. -
I said people. I wasn't particularly referring to you in that post.

Isn't it your first criteria? What happens when no non-shedding dog is suitable to a person's lifestyle? Most of them are terriers and I can't think of nothing worse than a terrier breed in the hands of someone who doesn't get terriers.
-
Indeed! Unfortunately, there's just no pleasing some people ETA: I spent a year researching before actually getting a dog. Apparently that was useless because my first criteria was that it should be a non-shedding toy breed, and took it from there. Never mind that it's for health reasons! Nope, I should have gotten a stuffed toy instead. I would prefer some people jump on an oodle bandwagon rather than get a breed that is totally inappropriate for their lifestyle because they didn't consider anything other than whether it shed. You and kelpiecuddles seem to have missed that point.
-
And you bothered reading my earlier post you'll understand why. I repeat: if your first preference is non-shedding then get a toy dog. Consider the breed first and foremost and whether that breed will fit into your lifestyle because I can guarantee that quite a few of the non-shedding breeds are dogs you probably won't want.
-
This is my point about preferences. Some of us want to live with a dog that doesn't shed. I don't mind mud, leaves, etc... but hair around the house makes MY hair stand on end. What's so wrong about knowing what you want, why should we justify it? why pick on my post who asked you to justify anything I was responding to the OP. Sorry Rebanne, only the first line was in response to your post, as it sort of supports the point I was trying to make. The other two lines are in response to the thread in general. I'm not picking on anyone, as far as nobody is picking on us non-shed-lovers  I'm sorry it came across that way. Just to point out: I am. See previous posts.

What's so wrong about knowing what you want, why should we justify it? Because that seems to be the criteria - a non-shedding dog. Anything else, like breed characteristics and owner capabilities never seem to come into it. Anyone who lists their first criteria as a non-shedding dog will never get a recommendation from me aside from this sort.

The fact that it tugs at the heartstrings by using the word "rescue". And 'adoption' because as everyone knows, rescue dogs are 'adopted' rather than paid for. It's designed to make people feel good when all they're actually doing is buying a dog just like everyone else. -
Are you suggesting that people with shedding dogs are not house proud? Seriously, if your first criteria for a dog is that it shouldn't shed please get a stuffed toy and stay away from real dogs. My breeds, for one, should not be in the hands of the 'house proud' because you'll find that you'll instead spend all of your time cleaning up the leaves and sticks they bring in on their non-shedding coats. I spend a lot of time cleaning up after my dogs and it's not because of the hair.

I always imagine cruelty to be deliberate. Is that what you're suggesting? -
