  1. You are most welcome :) I know some people poo-poo holistic vets but I wonder if there is a good one near you that you can get a diet opinion from. I think they specialise more in diet than traditional vets? Which is all very nice but do they specialise in diets for an everchanging disease? That, as I said before, is the problem with homemade diets. They have to change as the values change. I would have though someone who specialises in diet - whomever this yes, is would be able to modify the diet according to the progress of the disease? Based on your reasoning, please tell me how a static product like K/D copes with an ever-changing condition. I haven't poo-pood KD I am simply offering suggestions. It sounds like jaybeece is certainly capable of doing the required research and also more than capable of discounting any suggestions I have made. Yes, she is.

  3. The Family Law Act considers family violence to include 'intentionally causing death or injury to an animal'. http://www.familylawcourts.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/FLC/Home/Family+Violence/What+is+family+violence/
  4. sometimes i think that the perfect choice for we older people is a greyhound.. small breed can be quick and get underfoot unseen A neighbour of mine spent 6 hours on the ground with a broken femur.. by the time i found her she was covered in meat ants!!!!!!!!! all due to tripping over her Chi ( he suffered two broken ribs)... H I am 63 and currently care for one brother and his maremma and medium sized cross, and i have 3 very elderly maremmas, 1 middle aged maremma, 1 very feisty 3yo maremma and two 2yo maremmas ( fosters at the moment). The thought of living without at least a dog makes my blood run cold. H Possibly, but greyhounds aren't terriers ... :D Rescues have identified a new breed doing the rounds of the country pounds which they have named a wire haired terrier. Maybe that would suit. #umwhat?
  5. One of Miss Mini's many nicknames is Chatterbox.

  7. Someone I used to work with got one just after it was weaned from a (now closed) pet shop in Geelong. I saw her some months later and asked how her dog was and she said no matter what they did, they couldn't control the dog, couldn't teach it manners, it was just feral.
  8. I think some states has a 'old enough to be weened policy' for puppy sales.
  9. Glen of Imaal terrier? :-D My nan is 92 and has a whippet boy, I believe he is three or four now? They are perfect for each other and he gets regularly outings. Also, he will have a home with my parents if he outlives my nan. Unless I steal him first. I remember feeling a bit worried when nan was heart set on another dog after her old gsd x kelpie passed. But really, she has always had dogs and has a supportive family. I'm glad she has her little whippet man in her life. Possibly ... or a skye or maybe a sealyham. Certainly, a terrier.
  10. Mini does this funny rolling purr when she's very excited. It's like she's rolling her Rs.
  11. I think I'd probably downsize to a smaller dog when I'm older.
  12. If the kidney disease doesn't fall into the run-of-the-mill, the K9 Kidney group may be of limited use.
  13. Despite the expense, the prescription diet is the best option. The trouble with homemade diets is that they have to keep being adjusted as the disease progresses. Places like Best Friends sell the prescription diets and I am told by staff that they're included in their regular 20 per cent off sales. Alternatively, if you have a good relationship with your vet, have a pay it off arrangement.
  14. That's because it's easier to pass a law than it is to enforce it.
  15. Every time one of these things comes up, people say the public needs to be educated. It's been happening since I've been on DOL and no doubt the same thing was said before I was on DOL. And still, nothing happens. The state bodies do nothing and the national body does nothing. Why is that?
  16. I know he was given Tramadol, if that's what you mean. The vet who gave it to him held up a needle and said, 'This is Tramadol, it will help settle his tummy.' I have no proof it triggered his dementia, if you meant that, just my opinion.
  17. .It seems very few people understand the grief surrounding the loss of a pet, including some here from the replies, which I find somewhat surprising.
  18. My dearest Grumpy man went all spaceman after a dose of Tramadol. He was hallucinating and I'm of the firm belief it's what triggered his dementia.
  19. PETA doesn't seem to like any type of animal.
  20. No one has forced the council into going to court.
  21. What if you engaged a solicitor and sent her a letter demanding she pay up? Would she escalate or fold?
  22. Steph M, I wouldn't call it anything other than an industry - part of the retail industry these days.
  23. So, rescue is an industry. I mean, I know it is, but that's the first time I've heard someone in rescue state it.
  24. Spyda62, what exactly do you think the 'adopt and shop' push is?
