So, two days in and a reassessment. Last night there was a big spat. It stopped immediately when I stepped in but it seems Roo will be challenging Bunny as top dog. He's getting quite feisty.
-
Thanks, Rebanne. You're not in Canberra, are you?

These aren't siblings so, they've only just started to get to know each other. Some more tips would be great, Jumabaar! They are in separate crates at night and I took them out separately to do their wees. Last night was a reasonable success, more with Roo than with Bunny. I set up a pen with Bunnings panels and placed them in and just repeated wees over and over. Much more success during the night than today where Bunny, possibly because of the new puppy, decided to go potty several times in the crate that's within the playpen. Roo has, too, but she has slept in there during the day a few times. Perhaps she doesn't recognise it as a bed? She hasn't gone in her nighttime crate. I've also found her rough housing a little too much for Roo. Instead of leaving them in the playpen together, I decided to crate them separately when I had to do a couple of things. They both just went to sleep rather than play. Should I ditch the playpen and get two crates for the lounge?

Thanks, CareyJ. Much appreciated. :)

I hadn't thought of Grumpy experience! Though with Grumpy and Mini, at least they let me eat ... Both of them are asleep at my feet right now, having got up at 7.00 with toilet breaks every two hours. I'm very tired! I've changed the topic title so I can keep this thread going if anyone is interested in raising two puppies at once. And if anyone can tell me how to post photos via my phone, that'd be good. They're all too big.
-
If anyone who has spotted them in Bunnings recently can you get a photo of the box and barcode? My substitute was individual panels but they were $15 each. I could do with some more so IDing them to Bunnings would be really useful.

I take it Belco Pets doesn't sell pets? It's a bit far from me. Woden would have been ideal. And not going to the RSPCA obviously.

When the light is better! So, now Bunny has had a major strop because I've crated her. She was getting a bit over the top. Roo is asleep at my feet. And she's pretending she's dead because I'm ignoring her. Roo is a very gentle boy unlike Bunny who is very rambunctious. Typical kerry blue.
-
Well, so far I've stood on him and he's walked into a glass door. He's currently having a strop because I'm with Bunny while she's eating.
-
Precisely why I'm wary, DeltaCharlie. I can't see anything on the dog club websites about puppy school or how it's run.
-
Can anyone recommend a good puppy school in Canberra? I called the Animal Medical Centre in Phillip but they're no longer running them.
-
:D I know, it'll be Casa Chaos for a while. Luckily, she's taken to her crate very well.
-
Two weeks, so not much. She's a kerry blue, he's a wheaten so they'll be much the same size soon.
-
Bunny is fairly head strong (kerry blue) but she will be in a play pen when I got out to pick him up from the airport. I can take him outside for a look around then bring her out.
-
Oh yes, it will be separate training, separate crates, separate walks, separate feeding. I do have a single puppy pen at the moment ($$$$) but can get another next pay. Plus I have four weeks off to put in a big effort for them both. Also not much sleep.

So I have a new puppy, a little girl, Bunny. Against all the norms and regular advice I am also getting a boy at the same time. He is eight weeks and she is ten. I've had Bunny since Thursdsy and little boy is arriving tonight. All the puppy advice says to introduce them on neutral ground but as they've only had their first vaccination and are not lead trained, I can't take them anywhere neutral. It's my backyard only. How should I introduce them? -------- ETA: I thought I could make this more about raising two puppies at once now the intros are over.
-
Thanks, found a substitute.

Can someone please take a photo of their Bunning 'compost panels' or tell me what they're really called? My local Bunnings has no idea what these are. They have a pile of wire panelling but given people talk about these as if they're a cheap puppy pen, I don't know anything I'm looking at is what DOLers are describing. They're a minimum of $40-65 each.

Great! All I have to do is lead train her first! I don't even have a collar for her yet. I don't lead train that early either but i've still managed to take my pups out to toilet on leash to teach them to evacuate on command; i use a front clipping harness and a light weight puppy leash. I don't use the collar with a leash for a long time. In fact Laiken is 9 months old and i still have her on a front clipping harness and take her out for wee breaks on lead at night. In the life of your puppy, the solution to your problem is very simple so don't over think it. Perhaps I'm 'over thinking' it because I don't understand how putting a leash on an unleash trained puppy magically makes the puppy do a wee. So, I got a collar and a lead, put them on and spent the next 15 minutes with puppy fighting it. No wee. But you say a harness is the trick? This makes a puppy do a wee?
-
Goody, now we have a spot of diarrhoea.
-
Perhaps those advocating a leash can expand other than just saying 'get a leash'. Or did your puppies magically arrive leash trained? Every puppy I've known has to be leashed trained and has fought the leash. I tried a show lead I have last night and she spent most of the time fighting it rather than doing a wee. It at least has the virtue of distracting her from the yard as playpen.

I have a 10 week old puppy who sees the outdoors as a giant playpen. She's too distracted by all the things to do a wee. Look, leaves! Look, sticks! How long do I, in the middle of an icy night, give her to do a wee? I've been out there for half an hour or more without success and as soon as I get her inside, she does a wee. I've had her three days.

My understanding from previous stories is that there were cruelty charges which were dropped by the council because they considered the domestic animal business charge to be the serious one.

My baby girl Mini was sick recently with pancreatitis. It was an acute case which ended up affecting her bile ducts and liver. Despite trying everything, we had to let her go be with her Grumpy man last week. Mini was an Australian Champion kerry blue terrier, the funniest girl in the history of girls, and the delight of my house. She was an avid television watcher. While her favourite show was Meerkat Manor, I've never seen her so intent as when Kevin Rudd resigned as Foreign Minister. She was glued to the telly. She liked politics. Mini understood everything that was said to her. When told to get on her bed, she put one paw on and gazed at me. I said, 'All four feet' and so all four feet went on. Without being trained she would take one of her toys inside when I arrived home from work (I was left to take the rest) and she would not go outside unless I clapped twice. Mini was clever and sweet, and everyone who met her fell in love. Take care of Grumpy, little girl. And I know you will cos that's your job. Love you, my pickle.
