Irradiation And Food Poisoning
Sheridan replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What's Jean Dodds got to do with it? She's wrong about all pet foods being irradiated. They simply have to be cooked at a high enough temperature. -
Renal Problems And Which Food - Ridgey
Sheridan replied to SammyZ's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My last dog who had renal problems wouldn't touch the KD stuff. He stopped eating which is not what is wanted for a dog with kidney problems. In the end I tried everything. In the last two weeks of his life (he was pts three weeks after diagnosis), he ate half a smoked chicken breast, one sausage and half a Tic Toc biscuit. -
Renal Problems And Which Food - Ridgey
Sheridan replied to SammyZ's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It depends on the type of renal problem as to which commercial food is better. If your friend is looking for a natural diet, it has to be high in good protein and low in phosphorus, for example. Some people with wheatens requiring kidney diets go through Dr Remillard from Pet Diets who creates a natural diet based on the blood panel/urine screening (UPC) results. It costs a bit initially but well worth it according to various reports. Your friend should not create a diet without going through a vet who knows what they're doing in regards to kidney disease and food. -
Grumpy loves his carrots. Always good when you can fool a dog into thinking that a vegetable is the greatest treat ever. Miss Mini tries bravely to like them but she's not keen and makes a sort of hacking sound as she tries to swallow. She likes joining in with whatever Grump does so I give her a little and she pretends to like them.

Fingers crossed for both our doggles, Borderpower. I think this has only come up since yesterday afternoon's bath. I didn't notice it during his marathon brush session or his bath yesterday and it certainly wasn't there when we visited the vet in November for his annual check up.

Just found a whopping great soft, fatty lump on Grump's back leg. It's off to the vet on Monday. I think it's just a sebaceous cyst grown large (he has a few sebaceous cysts but these are very small) but he's going to be 13 in a couple of weeks so obviously any sign of something out of the ordinary is very worrisome for us. It doesn't seem to be bothering him and when I took a look at it, he didn't take my hand off (always a good sign!). Please keep fingers crossed for us.

Parvo Killed Two Puppies Across The Road

Get some F10 disinfectant and start cleaning. You can clean your shoes before entering the house, for instance. There's a pinned thread in the rescue forum about quarantine which should help, too. -
Kramar Supa Natural Chicken Treats
Sheridan replied to Lizzy06's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well, I'm going to take in a copy of the Kramar recall notice to my local Big W. Last week I pulled the Kramar treats off the shelf and asked them to check the Kramar recall notice. The breast strips were among the ones I pulled off. I went in yesterday and there were even more packets there. I left them, the first action obviously having been ineffective, and will take in the statement to check the numbers. If they're the same breast strips as per the recall I will ask to see the store manager. ETA: I just took some off the shelf in Big W and gave them and the recall notice to one of the managers. They had already sent some back and apologised for some still being on the shelf. -

Anyone Feed Red Salmon To Their Dogs?
Sheridan replied to Sheridan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Grumpy and Mini had the red salmon for tea. Both chowed down and said, 'Please, Mum, can I have some more?' -
Opinions....older Dogs Balance Is Going.

Yes, sounds vestibular. Pacing is also a symptom. Get your dog's ears checked! -
Anyone Feed Red Salmon To Their Dogs?
Sheridan replied to Sheridan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Very good, thanks! Looks like salmon is on their menu. -
I have a can of red salmon but I don't eat it meownself. My dogs generally get fish (tuna or sardines or mackerel). Has anyone fed red salmon to their dogs before. Any ill effects?

Royal Canin/eagle Pack/dick Van Patten's/advance?
Sheridan replied to Arcana's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think its made by Natura Pet Products (same as Innova/EVO), so only available through Paradise Retail Holdings (Pets Paradise, Pet Goods Direct and Pets R Fun). Which automatically rules it out for me. -

Royal Canin/eagle Pack/dick Van Patten's/advance?
Sheridan replied to Arcana's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I bought some Dick Van Patten biscuits last week (duck and potato) and they went down a treat (intended pun) with my two. -
My dogs get the heartworm injection. The first one is blown up the nose then it's injections thereafter. No ill effects on my two. Why wouldn't you use them on collie breeds, InspectorRex?

I was once told that vets in the Geelong area don't routinely vaccinate for heartworm because it is very rare in the area. -

Any update for us, BDog?

Wire, that's what they do. I bet Murphy just wiggy waggled his tail at you, as if to say, 'Are you mine?'
-
Wire, pictures of Murphy, please! Over in the Irish terrier breeds thread! I have plenty of baby puppies pics of his litter from Lynden but haven't seen any since, of course! I bought a new slicker today (since Grumps ate the last one). It's a Masterpet Curve and Groom and it has the little balls on top of the pins. I'm currently trying to ignore that they've spelt 'professional' as 'proffesional'. Will you be going back to Lynden for another pup? He's who I'd get another wheaten from.
-
Wire, it might simply be that the environment in SA is different to where he comes from in Sydney. That's what happened with Grump when he came over from SA. We had three months of wobbly tummy before we sorted it out with a change of diet and a really good shampoo conditioner. He still gets spring itches, though. On his aggression, we did tests, etc, and finally we worked out that he was just grumpy! Mini the kerry wasn't too interested in food when she came to live with us. I tried her on Orijen, too, and she preferred her Bonnie Complete and Eagle Pack Salmon and Anchovy. I actually make her wait for her dinner now. She has to sit and stay with her food bowl in front of her and she's become a lot more interested in food now. Have you done the 'eat it or lose it' thing? Put his food down. Make him sit and wait and then give him permission to eat. I clap and say, 'Okay.' If he doesn't eat it within 15 minutes, he goes hungry. Try sardines, tuna and mackerel as well. Grump's entirely on canned fish now and so is Mini. They love it with a mix of fishy kibble.

Was going to ask in regard to the itchies, what are you feeding him?
