  1. So, you're okay with an old dog, indeed any dog, being attacked in its backyard? Interesting. Nope not at all, but it's typicle for a responce like that I have noticed, I am sure many see it. Any more 1 liners to come? or is that it for your input to the topic titled, should have called the ranger? No pet, I've written some other posts. Put your glasses back on.
  2. Sorry, not sure what you mean here. When you're away? You mean, when you're at work? Or are you going away somewhere? The vet will tell you how long Solly should be kept quiet for so discuss crating when you pick Solly up. But is Solly actually crate trained?
  3. Sorry to hear about Solly. Is he crate trained?

  5. What do you mean if it did happen? I believe that's a way of saying that A_Nomad believes PPS is lying about seeing the dog attacking the other in its backyard.
  6. Someone who allows their dog to savage another in its own backyard is irresponsible. A pity that such owners can't wear a collar indicating they're dangerous. A pity that such people are allowed to own dogs at all. It is the dog that wears the collar; it is the dog that gets pts because its owner is a moron.
  7. I've passed on the tips and he's able to block off his back patio as a run. He's going to try this first.
  8. I love John Burchard's salukis. Have a read of the history of how he came to have them.
  9. I'll check if a radio is an option as they're outside during the day. I'll also suggest daycare as an option. Keep 'em coming!
  10. I agree. Dead dog in no time. God the barking is a real issue, though. It wont stop the yaps everytime a bird or cat comes within earshot but do they have a clamshell full of sand with toys and treats shoved in it? Might help with the boredom during the day. There was mention of a sandpit, actually. He wondered whether he should have one to stop them digging in the pot plants. I pointed out at the time that he had to train them to use the sandpit in preference to the plants. I'll mention it again. Good idea.
  11. I keep hammering the training. One side of the fence is colorbond. The rest is palings. He doesn't think they're digging but I've suggested the chicken wire L-shape solution at the bottom and fence extensions at the top. I think a run is a good idea for the escaping, although since they're renting putting in a concrete base is going to be out of the question. His main concern is the barking, though, because he doesn't want complaints from the neighbours (particularly since they're renting). A run won't stop the barking. I can suggest a citronella collar as a short-term solution but it won't solve it long term and because they're JRTs and tend to rummage around in the garden, I have concerns about a collar catching on something.
  12. My last dog became DA after he was attacked and decided that a first strike policy was a good thing. I decided to take him to obedience classes for socialisation and to stop the DA. The club had no particular policy other than to tell people with DA dogs to stand at the end of a row and away from others. It worked well and he got his first obedience cert but then several dogs got loose and although there wasn't an attack he clearly saw them as a threat and we were back to square one.
  13. A friend has two JRTs pups of around 6 months (boy and girl siblings). He says that one of them is constantly barking when they're left outside. They are on a commercial VIP type diet. They're both desexed. They also escape into the neighbours yard (despite there being a new fence; he's unsure how they're getting out so I have some suggestions to fix that). They cannot see outside the fence but react to noise. He would like to address the cause behind the barking (the noise) rather than using an e-collar/citronella collar. They have not been to obedience training and are not crate trained and I have suggested both of these to him. Does anyone have any tips to address constant barking at noise?
  14. I thought the complaint about Epiotic was that it kept ears too wet? I used to use Leo's ear cleaner but they stopped making it.
  15. Yes, I get them, too, although I don't feed it too often. Generally when there's no sardines left. I also get the sardine in oil when there's no springwater ones left but I ditch the oil since it's just vege oil and run water through it instead.
  16. Same here too - I get the no name ones from Woolworths and they come in packs of 3 - works out quite reasonable. I feed these ones. I buy a whole box at a time. Very economical.
  17. Can someone tell me more about this gastro bug? Wouldn't mind passing the info onto some of my Canberra doggy friends.
  18. Mine would eat grass if I had any.
  19. I use Thornit ear powder. I don't put the powder in the ear just lightly on my fingers. Thornit's expensive, though, for a wee tiny little bottle.
