  1. Well I hope your pedigree dog isn't a male Sheridan, AND you have the kids locked away because according to keynote speaker the learned Kate Schoeffel Studies show that children get bitten by dominant purebred male dogs. Do they indeed? Only by dominant purebred males? Golly. I love it when people demonstrate that they cannot reason between A and B and come up with C. Darwin Award winner, that one.
  2. Now you're just plain WRONG! I'm sorry, but this is absolutely incorrect and I can't let you post rubbish like that without correcting you. Uh, sorry, but I have heard McGreevy bag out pedigree dogs so do please tell me where I can find him praising them to the heavens. I would love to come but my perfectly healthy, soon-to-be 14 years old pedigree dog would probably prefer me to stay at home and I know whose company I'd prefer.
  3. I'm sorry this has happened. Can I suggest you name them here?
  4. Yes, he looks like a large American-style wheaten or perhaps a cross of the same. He sounds like a boy who was well beloved in his family.
  5. Oh, that's a pity! It's tempting, though, having three of the four Irish terrier breeds on the same day. And, a plus, it's not Easter weekend.
  6. I feed sardines each day (the woollie homebrand ones in springwater) and they have firm poos. Might be something else but you won't know unless you try each one.
  7. I'm very concerned about Grumpy for this summer. He actually coped very well in the hideous heat of last summer. I can't leave he and Mini in the house together as they'd not behave at all and the house gets the afternoon sun. I've cut his hair right down, which I didn't do last summer and should have.
  8. Whereabouts are you in Qld Sheridan ? I've noticed since moving here (just outside Gympie ) that I haven't seen one mozzie!! I'm sure if they were here they would've found me by now I'm wondering if it's the same with fleas. Nina Hope your girl's ok Linda, that looks pretty awful ! Oh, I'm not in Qld. I think Qld is the default. I tried changing it and it wouldn't cooperate. People have mentioned weather. Before Grumpy came to live with me he was in Port Elliot in SA, which I believe can get very hot (with my first wheaten was a wee pup, the breeder mentioned a nearly 50 degree day). I asked about flea treatments for Grumpy before he arrived and the breeder said he'd never had one. He just gave him a bath every now and again in a flea shampoo. Fidos?
  9. Does your house heat up a lot? Do you have air con? Could you leave him inside?
  10. My dogs haven't had a flea treatment in their lives. On seeing these sorts of things, makes me very glad.
  11. What's 'qualified' though? You don't have to be qualified to work in a salon either. Although I agree the quality of work is rarely there from mobiles. Someone I work with said that a friend of hers was going to buy one of the grooming franchise vans but not only didn't have a dog herself, also knew nothing about them.
  12. Sorry, I can't help then. Yeah, thanks. I know of some good salons. Heather's in Red Hill, Dogworld, etc.
  13. Yes, there is a reason the dog can't go to a salon.
  14. My problem with these sorts of franchise things is that you don't have to be a qualified dog groomer.
  15. Can anyone recommend a mobile dog groomer with hydrobath in the ACT area, please?
  16. True but doing this is easier to start with. Your approach is easier than feeding a dog one type of food and only that for 5-6 weeks? Giving a dog one type of food for a few days and then switching is more likely to screw up the digestive system even more, surely.
  17. The only way to know for sure what is causing the problem is to do a food trial.
  18. RMB? Have you considered it's not the dry food but what else you're giving them?
  19. Beenie, my Grumpy (also a wheaten but he'll be 14 in January) does his poo around the fenceline, which is very polite of him. Particular, is the grumpy man. Mini (my kerry blue girl) poos everywhere. I can't take credit for Grumpy's good manners as his breeder trained him so. He does tell me when he wants to go out. A method that worked for my previous wheaten was as soon as he woke up from a sleep to excitedly take him outside. Yippee! You're up, let's go outside! Big treat afterwards. He soon learned that going outside was treatworthy. They're clever these wheaties, they cotton on very quickly as to what gets them a treat.
  20. From some wheaten people whose dogs are on it.
  21. The Hills Ultra z/d doesn't contain Ethoxyquin. I was curious after showdog posted. Ingredients: Can't see it in the k/d either: Which prescription diet foods have it?
  22. Nice to have a choice but unfortunately, some don't.
  23. Carrots. Grumpy loves carrots. Amazing that he can so be fooled into thinking they're the Best Thing Ever!
  24. Actually, I read this morning that Hills in the US had run out of the Ultra Z/D, which is the only thing wheatens with PLN (protein loss through the kidneys) can eat. Pretty darned serious.
