  1. That's good news! Well, not about the ear infection and vertigo but you know what I mean.
  2. The vet should run a full blood panel and a urine test for kidney failure. The problem is that the symptoms show up when there's usually only 20-25 per cent of renal function left.
  3. Kidney failure is diagnosed through urine and blood tests. It's normally not sudden, though. Generally, there are symptoms previously, like constant throwing up and soft/runny stools. The kidney failure my dog had is very specific so I can only speak in generalities about 'regular' renal failure (if there is such a thing).
  4. If you are at home, crate your dogs if you are expecting tradespeople. If you are away from home, padlock your gates.
  5. I use The STUFF and Cowboy Magic (which isn't a spray but a gell). For those after No Knots, try here.
  6. I pointed to the process....not the quality. The quality is decided on longevity & usefulness of what is published. Marked by numbers of citations. It also depends on the level of the journals. There's a gradation of journal types & prestige. Ranging from those with high international reputations thro' to some that are little more than in-house journals to get work 'published. So it will be interesting to read the actual article in the actual journal....& follow any citations. What was it about this journal that leads you to talk about an 'awful lot of crap' in this context? I'm interested why the general media report on this particular article....scarcely a few lines in length....raised your ire??? By the way.....it's not a question of my 'faith'.....it's a question of occupation. 'Faith' seems a strange word to use when talking about science.....where the default position is scepticism. oh terribly sorry, you see this "This study has made it to the level where it'll be published in a peer-reviewed journal. That means its method & findings had to pass extensive independent scrutiny." did rather sound to me like an assumption of quality at that level. data sources cited and the assumption of accurate theoretical basis of those lovely percentage studies do tend to suggest a high probability of skewed findings. I'd have to look at the equivalent human studies to determine if it is relevant, perhaps I would find them equally shoddy sounding, but frankly I can't be arsed. As to why it raised my ire, well I'm afraid that is rather personal but I believe I can share that it is responsible for giving Spotty a nasty wedgie in a dark alley and stealing Sheridan's prized thimble collection - including the rare one with a badger playing poker with a lemming....tsk tsk tsk Oh, give us me thimble back, thief! And you know, Kissindra, I'm betting there's never ever been a shonky scientist whose had utter nonsense published in a peer reviewed journal.
  7. I have a wheaten terrier and a kerry blue terrier. We always had (aside from one ring-in) Irish terrier breeds in our family. Fell in love with wheatens at a dog show and we hadn't had them before plus I wanted another kerry to make the perfect doggy household. We're perfect in our house. GRUMPY, PUT THAT DOWN!
  8. My dogs are quite independent of each other, probably because Mini was already an adult when I got her. They run around together but also do their own thing. Miss Mini has taken herself off to bed of late. Around 9.30 each night she disappears into her crate and comes back out when she's ready to go outside. Grumpy takes himself off to the bedroom if I'm home during the day. It's like they take it in turns to mind me. Mini loves Grumpy, though, and greets him with great acclaim if she hasn't seen him for a while. Grumpy tolerates this with great patience.
  9. There's faith and there's blind faith. I also find loads of rubbish in peer reviewed journals. Just because it's academic, doesn't mean it's any good.
  10. Can't help with finding a breeder but I love the wheaten scotties. *not that Sheridan is biased about wheatens*
  11. It is very sad and I am glad that Tyson has survived this incident. I am a little disappointed in his owners though, a faulty fence and two DA dogs next door equate an accident waiting to happen. So, you blame the owners of the attacked dog not the owners of the dogs who did the attacking.
  12. Please also remove the kerry blue and the wheaten terriers from the list.
  13. Why is it a disqualifying fault if it makes no difference to its ability to do its job?
  14. hmmmm Meaning? I don't think the breeder should have allowed the pup to go. I would have waited and arranged other transport if the thing was that dirty.
  15. I would have thought the breeder wouldn't have allowed the pup to go at all.
  16. I wonder how much longer my Grumpy would live if he was shy, given he's 14, very healthy, and as bold as brass.
  17. Having read L Ron Hubbard's pulp sci-fi books, I'm not a fan of his or of his 'religion', but I think it's a wee bit out of order to blame the dogs and his son's deaths on his belief system. I didnt quite word it correctly, Sheridan. I should have said that instead of giving money to such a religion perhaps it would have been best to give the money where it is most needed which is OT anyway. It is tragic what has happened. Yes, it is, and I think it's none of my business what Travolta does with his money.

  19. The first two are equal firsts. Can't pick between them and indeed I already have this precise perfect doggy household. wheaten terrier kerry blue terrier glen of imaal terrier irish terrier west highland white terrier black russian terrier welsh terrier field spaniel sussex spaniel clumber spaniel
  20. Maybe he wants a Xolo but with hair ... There already are Xolos with hair Poodle hair?
  21. How lovely to see the photos of the pups. Thanks for posting them.
  22. If your dog was sick, would you take it to Cesar Milan or a vet? Totally different scenarios. we are talking about behaviour not illness. No, it isn't.
  23. If your dog was sick, would you take it to Cesar Milan or a vet?
