Yeah, no ... I like the one about how easy it is to stick your hand down your dog's throat to give him a worming tablet. I shared that one with Grumpy's vet and we both laughed.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)

Pleased to hear Jed is doing much better. -
One thing I didn't mention before. The breeder was in Sth Australia so I wasn't going to get to meet him but he suggested we visit a breeder friend of his in Melbourne to 'see a wheaten in his home environment'. This, of course, was an assessment but it meant I got to see a wheaten and a kerry living together and thus was my quest to have the perfect doggy household cemented. I got a phone call the next day to say we'd gone to the top of the list.

What Would You Do If Your Dog Was Sick
Sheridan replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Unfortunately, those of us with older dogs don't have opportunity to get pet insurance to cover emergencies. I haven't found one yet that will cover Grumpy for anything other than basics. I pay into the vet's account each fortnight. -
I was asked if I'd had experience with the Irish terrier breeds before when my wheatens' breeder was interviewing me.
-
Grumpy does it to get my attention.

Grumpy is now 14.5 years. He's a bit, well, grumpy (!) and his eyesight's fading. He's physically healthy; he came belting into the loungeroom before to see what I was up to and when he found me on the Internet, decided to ransack the bathroom (bathroom door now shut).

You think it's a good idea for someone who is not on board getting a dog to end up taking care of it, do you?
-
Expecting my female counterpart just to "fall in line", as you put it, would be misogynistic in my book. I don't know about your relationships, but mine proceeds on an equal footing. Your assumption that it would proceed in any other manner is, quite frankly, insulting - all the more so since you don't even know me. And "falling in" is clearly not what I meant - why else would I try to ascertain from my OH if I was asking too much of her? My point was, quite simply, that I had communicated to my OH that if we get a Weim for example its likely to be needy and want to hang around her all the time and that such behaviour would be something that she would need to tolerate if we selected that breed. On the basis that I did not expect her to just to "fall in", I quite naturally asked if that was something that she would find acceptable; if not, it gets struck of the wish list. Simple. Smart alec psychoanalysts really get my goat. It's simple: does your OH want a dog or not? Yes or no answer.

Somehow I just figured someone would try to read it that way. Everyone in the family clearly has a role to play in caring for the family pet, even if they aren't its primary caregiver. One doesn't need to be a misogynist to express one's "expectation" in that regard to a female counterpart and to ask whether it is asking too much. Actually, I didn't read it as mysogynistic; I read it as a failure of understanding from yourself and with the above ridiculously controlling. You come across as someone who just expects his partner, despite the fact that he knows she doesn't like dogs, to fall into line. You should not get a dog and expect your partner to jump to and say, 'Yes, sir, I'll spend my day taking care of your dog despite the fact that I don't like them and don't want one.' Indeed, unless your partner is fully on board voluntarily, you shouldn't consider getting one at all.

Wow, freudian slip there much?
-
The puppy will be alone if your non-dog liking OH doesn't want to take care of it. Frankly, getting a dog when your OH isn't keen and assuming that she'll become an instant fan is assuming much.
-
Is this is OH who isn't keen on dogs?
-
I thought rotti, too.

Where is it?

Whatever...... Serves me right for mentioning your breed of choice at all I suppose. Won't make that mistake again. Good.
-
Yeah, I got that. Well, considering that before I posted I checked my understanding of the breed's non-shed coat on the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Society of NSW Website that says this: perhaps you might now understand my error. Seems to me you'd better start educating the breed club too. ;) Oh dear, aren't you behind the times. Precisely, they shed into their coats. So, not non-shedding, as I said. If you knew this, then you shouldn't have said non-shedding. I know that show grooming SCWs is hard work and that pets are often clipped. I looked at them at one stage as they have a reputation for trainability amongst the terriers and considered getting one. However, if I wanted a dog that was a difficult to maintain as a poodle in the show ring, I'd have stuck with the poods. Any coat that has length and fullness is not going to be a cinch to maintain, especially if it is pale. Show grooming is not hard work. This is how they should be groomed for show according to the standard: Over trimming or stylising should be penalised. For show purposes the coat may be tidied to present a neat outline.

Care to elaborate Sheridan? If you know nothing about a dog, poodlefan, don't recommend it. That's it. I said the OP might want to "tyre kick" them Sheridan. That's hardly the same as saying "you should definitely get one of these". I don't profess to be a breed expert but I've met a few and know a breeder. They seem like pretty good dogs to me. What aspects of the SCW have led you to conclude that one is unsuitable for the OP's situation.? That would probably be more educative for all of us than a line of headbanging emoticons. I wasn't actually banging my head about the OP, I was banging my head about you. The wheaten sheds, poodlefan. It is not a non-shedding dog. As I said, if you don't know anything about a dog, don't recommend one. As to the OP, as I have said previously, I haven't yet read a 'recommend a breed to me' thread that has made me think of suggesting a wheaten and this one isn't about to make me change my mind. Low maintenance is hardly the wheaten's raison d'ĂȘtre

I wonder how the OH who doesn't like dogs would react to a terrier ...

Worst Excuses For Re-homing Or Surrendering A Pet
Sheridan replied to PeiPei's topic in General Dog Discussion
Topics like this really piss me off sometimes. There's always the high and mighty who get up on their hobby horses and bleat about people who rehome dogs because they're moving. Some people don't have a choice because they've lost their dog friendly accommodation for some reason. Plus it's usually those hobby horse riders who are the first to congratulate a DOL regular for rehoming their dogs because they know the rehomer personally and then jump all over anyone who dares criticise their pal. Sure, I wouldn't move unless I had no choice and I'd rather live on the street than give up my dogs but I remind myself that if it weren't for my dog's breeder moving overseas, I wouldn't actually have Grumpy at all.
