  1. Well that begs the question - why arent the breeders out there for the breeders. How long do they have to wait before they work out that their CCs are not going to do it for them and do something ? I find this completely ironic. Not that long ago, there were a number of DOLers who wanted to do something for purebreds - promotions at shows, brochures, etc - and it died a death because the majority of breeders on this forum dismissed it as unnecessary.
  2. Mini started barking today when she was outside. I was inside so I went to see what it was she was annoyed about and before I got to the back door I heard a child imitating the barking. My back fence neighbours have placed their kids trampoline just over my back fence so when the bounce they can see into my yard and of course, the dogs can see them. Grumpy has spent the day prowling the back fence and I've heard the kids say, 'Oooh, doggy!' I can't afford to increase the fence height by putting an extension there (even if they agreed to it) and while I have plans to block off the back of the yard so I can have some vege patches there, I also can't afford to put in another fence to do that right now and I really don't like people looking into my yard even if they are just kids, particularly since the dogs have caught the kids attention. I don't know if there's anywhere else they could put the trampoline but I would like to ask them if they can. How best to put it and what reason should I give?
  3. My two don't wait for me to turn my back before deciding they can get away with being naughty.
  4. I am concerned about Grumpy for this summer. I can't have he and Mini in the house together and she gets barky if left alone. The yard gets a fair amount of shade but still, he's an old man now. His hair will be cut very short soon.
  5. Anything that doesn't make a noise. If it don't squeak, it ain't worth 'killing'.
  6. Remind me, is this the case where a certain vet was handing around misinformation?
  7. And we've seen time and time again that the RSPCA uses a lot of discretion in who they decide to put a target on. When I see on their own television progam that they will leave animals in the so-called care of owners who have mistreated them and yet have the utter gall to target Judy Gard whose 'crime' was to show her dogs after they'd been debarked then it indicates that their discretion is badly applied and misused.
  8. Princess Mini is on Natural Balance. Previously, she was on ProPlan but wouldn't have a bar of it. Natural Balance is my compromise since her favourite Eagle Pack is so hard to come by. I don't think she's overly fussed by the Natural Balance but at least she doesn't turn her dainty little black nose up at it.
  9. Blue dogs cannot have a black nose at all?
  10. It's more likely that if pet shops realise that purebreds are actually popular, they'll get that 'stock' from their puppyfarm suppliers.
  11. I'd be curious to know if there are any breeders reading the thread who have never had a dog returned and how they screen their buyers. From Centitout's post, even her detailed process, one that to me sounds really good, isn't foolproof.
  12. Wasn't there a thread recently about PP puppies lying in their own faeces? The apologists for pet shops don't seem to take into account the issues with the lack of socialisation before or after the poor creatures arrive in their glass cages.
  13. This topic reminds me of this bit from The West Wing episode 'Ellie': Everything causes cancer or prevents cancer depending on the study, it seems, from news stories.
  14. Princess Mini and Master Grumpy are going to have a haircut over the next few days. Yesterday was 'clean bum day', where I cleaned up doggy backsides. Today is head day. Not sure how I'm going to do the Grumpy man's beard yet. Difficult to comb underneath a muzzle!
  15. Honestly, I didn't notice any change at all in him. Maybe that was the chicken but I also tried some on myself and there was no change there either. Are we immune or does it just not work at all?
  16. Steve, I met a couple of pet shop representatives at a Clover Moore rally. They are objective in their views (as much as a pet shop owner can be) and seem to understand where many animal welfare enthusiasts are coming from. They are also willing to extend the olive branch it seems to sit down and discuss things. They actually care about the welfare of animals as much as anyone here does. I haven't had contact with them for a long while, but I am happy to forward on some details to see if they may be able to assist in providing infomration about the things you are asking. Email me if you want more detail. As long as it doesn't infringe on their raking in the $$$, no doubt.
  17. Microchip pups/dogs and owners. Link the chips ... You want to make dog owners have to get microchip in themsleves...are you for real? Joke, Joyce.
  18. Microchip pups/dogs and owners. Link the chips ...
  19. Padlocks are a must. I have double gates. One to the street, another behind it. Both are padlocked.
  20. I think a major part of education is teaching the media morons. Now, you're never going to edumacate the gardner but recall the recent furore over (what was it?) the 7.00 pm Project. We get threads so often complaining about something a media moron has said about dog breeding and getting dogs from pet shops and such like. They need to be educated because they have the ear of the public.
  21. I'm pretty sure getting down on the floor and play fighting with the breeder's wheaten and kerry helped me ... Indeed, did my response to the question, 'And what experience have you had with Irish dogs before?' My answer was, 'Our last dog was a kerry and the previous one was an irish terrier.' Breeder said, 'Ah, well, you'll be okay with a wheaten then.' Me either
  22. Conztruct, why shouldn't pedigree dog breeders do marketing?
  23. x 3. This is a good suggestion and will give you time with your adorable pup.
